I'd like to join the Savers thread!
I am currently saving for a down payment when we build our new house.
Do I need to set a goal that I should meet by the end of the year, or is this just an ongoing saving thread that can go on as long as I want/need?

I'd like to join the Savers thread! I am currently saving for a down payment when we build our new house. Do I need to set a goal that I should meet by the end of the year, or is this just an ongoing saving thread that can go on as long as I want/need? Any way you'd like to do it. My goals are annual. Savings categories, like property tax or this year's addition to saving for a new car, are annual, or annual additions to an ongoing fund. minnesotapaintlady does it that way, same with Saving4Norway. For an ongoing saving thread that goes on as long as you want/need, teachermom does it that way. She's got some savings funds that won't be reached for years. azucena has even set 3-month goals in the past. You can add a short term goal anytime. And you can feel free to tweak your goals at any time. Does this help? Tables are optional. The only thing I ask is that you add a tagline that looks something like: steph08, [amount saved today, can be $0], [date of post], Goal $XWelcome! I think you'll like it here.

Thanks serious!
I enjoy WIR to help me meet my debt pay-off goals, so I might as well join the Savers to help with my savings goal.
steph08, $2,556, 5/4/2018, Goal $20,000
I am working a freelance job to save up the down payment, and I get paid the first business day of every month, so I will update my totals then (if I remember).
I would like to hit this goal by April of 2020, though hopefully earlier (and have more than $20,000 saved by then!).

Thanks seriousthistime for the updates and smilies! Shoutouts part 1 of 2: seriousthistime Nice work with 38.3% of goal saved, and very nearly $8K total so far! Good job also with using the money saved from choosing not to eat out to create a new fund. I don't have any ideas for where to stash it, but a suggestion for the fund name: instead of feeding yourself you are putting it into savings, so "feed the kitty"? Or maybe "Serious rebate" because you are giving yourself a rebate of the difference of the cost of the food and the price of it if it were prepared for you. azucena Nice progress in April for you...powering past the $10K milestone! And sitting pretty in the 31-43% range of your goal and stretch goal. finnime I love your statement you made: It can apply for all of us..."Not sure right now how....., but will put $ as I can." Congrats on your EF progress and over $1800 saved! snapdragon Kudos on blowing past the $14K mark, and so nice to have the tax and the travel funds nearly accomplished! On a personal note, I am so thrilled for you to be free of that HOA responsibility And some more slow, but consistent progress from our favorite self proclaimed turtle shanendoah , good job!!! minnesotapaintlady amazing month of April!! Nice work channeling the tax refund into the survival fund. , so many milestones achieved, with 55% to goal and over $12K saved! chiver78 Congrats on earning your , building your savings AND your savings habit!! nikiz628 Your newly achieved savings mark $8879.79 is very fun to see for a number geek like me I hope you enjoyed your financially stress free vacation!

And Shoutouts Part 2 of 2: Let's start off Part 2 with a warm welcome and big cheer for our new Savers Ava and steph08 , Welcome to the party Ava Good job getting on the board. You are so very right... no need to wait . You've given it substantial thought and you are off and running well. You were already achieving savings, and hopefully being here will enhance that even more. Congrats on your shiny first , and another one close at hand. Saving4Norway Nice savings growth in April! achieving $12,500! Congrats on your wonderful bouquet of 10 roses with just 2 more to go. Such a wonderful way to receive a dozen red roses!!! Maryland Monroe You set an excellent example of doing both, demolishing debt and building savings....a regular one woman "financial remodeler". Congrats on "pert near" $14K saved! plugginaway22 Nice accomplishment in the $9K range. Good job having $$ in place for the sinking funds and cash flowing your fencing and patio furnishings. Also good job with your HSA and keeping yourself accountable nidena Looking forward to your next saving update. Good work finding a stopping point and differentiating between necessary home expense and more cosmetic home expense. And thanks for sharing about the USAA savings tracker/saver. With a program like that little savings can really add up! teachermom Very glad that your knee surgery went well, as is the therapy and rehab. Though savings is idling for a moment, being able to cash flow the medical is pretty amazing. The teachermom who first joined WIR would be amazed at what today's teachermom is now accomplishing! Jaguar Are you on target for your Shingrix vaccination? Looking forward to July for your savings goal update! trimatty471 You are thisclose to on target for the year at 31.51%, and $5450. Nice work!! steph08 Hi there! Looking forward to watching you build your down payment for building a home. You are right, the same support and accountability that helps you succeed in eliminating debt can encourage you to be your best saver self.

I did a great thing for me yesterday. I resigned from my position on the HOA board. I had waffled and let things go at the annual meeting. Than when e-mails started coming in it just hit nerves. So I took the weekend to really think about it and I sent in my resignation first thing yesterday morning before a meeting. So while people were having to deal with board things I went grocery shopping instead.
It still has not quite sunk it that I don't have that hassle to deal with anymore. But I was starting to get panicky just thinking about going to the meeting. So I know bowing out was for the best.

I am too late for the May numbers, but I'm still here. I took a few days off work as a staycation, and had an awesome time. With two little ones, both with diagnosed sensory issues, we don't go too far. DH and I took a day trip, and got some stuff done around the house while the kiddos were at school. Then, we had a marvelous dinner with my cousin & her husband, followed by an off-Broadway show. What a treat! We are not sticking to our budget all that well unfortunately. We're not going over by *that* much, but as the months roll on, it's adding up. I think I have an overly optimistic idea of our historical spending, and our financial resolve. Our budget indicates otherwise. THIS is exactly why/how I am better at paying stuff off than saving. Practice makes perfect, I hope. My main goal is still to pay off the minivan by July 1st though. Come what may... I am continuing my efforts to minimalize clutter and stuff. Donated a huge bag of outgrown diapers to our preschool this morning. Two more will follow later this week, and, I will follow that with the un-played-with toys. That will free up at least one big bin. I also need to do better at categorizing the hand me downs I get so that I don't mistakenly buy (and start using!) something that we actually already had stored away for future use for the kids. If someone can get me another 9 hrs per day, I might stand a chance. Just keep swimming...

Wow, Saving4Norway, $7000 in one month! Tell me please how you did it. I'm awed. To be honest, I'm not sure. I'm going to wait a few weeks and double-check my savings account balance. There is a distinct possibility that I screwed something up.

Oh right now I'm saving for the new Shingrix vaccine. I'll have the money for the whole thing in June 1, with over a hundred dollars as a cushion in case of an oops price. I got a massive update on this, shop around cause there are different prices at various pharmacies : Here in Toronto : Toronto General Hospital charges $215 per needle Shoppers Drug Mart charges $200 per needle Walmart Pharmacy charges $151 per needle Costco charges $140 per needle Shingrix is a 2 needle vaccine given 2 to 6 months apart. I have my prescription and my niece is taking me to Costco. Costco was the best for giving out info on this as well. You pay when you get the shot, so $140 at the 1st needle and $140 at the 2nd needle. I already got this amount now, and because I do I feel so good about this.

Hi group. It's been years since I was on the WIRR forums. I am currently saving for a new house purchase and current house renovation pre-sale. I am about to deplete our savings bucket with a $12,000 bathroom/ windows upgrade. My goal is to have another $60,0000 in 22 months. With my calculations, I will be $6400 short, so I need a nudge to find the extra $290 a month.
Lazysundays 5/11/18 $0/$60,000 0% of goal

shanendoah: 14-May 2018 $1700 (Goal: $2,500/stretch $5,000)
The original plan was that I was going to sell the second car in January, get $2,500 for it, use half for credit card bills and put half in savings because I knew I was going to owe in taxes again this year. Techinically, I still haven't sold the car. It went to the people buying it (BFF and her wife) in January. They gave me the money for it last week, but we haven't done all the sale paperwork yet, so I'm still paying insurance. But, also last week is when the tax bill was due on my credit card. So, all the money went straight to the credit card bill. But, because it was being used for what I planned on it being used for (taxes), and it was just that the timing was off, I am still counting that $1,250 toward savings.
EDITED: Because sometimes I can't do math. $50/paycheck at 9 paychecks = $450. $450+$1,250 = $1,700 NOT $1,650.

I'm not entirely sure where the best place is to post this one. it isn't exactly saving, but kind of, as I avoid larger CC fees and the like. if anyone has a strong opinion, please say the word and I'll move this post myself. thanks! today, I was hit with the realization that April and May were spendier than planned/expected, with pup bills. an Amazon purchase was declined on a CC (I refuse to debit online) with a lower limit that I actually use....oops. i logged in to my account to see that I've got a handful of pending charges that put me a good $400 over limit. a) why the EFF do you allow.pending charges over limit? b) I really.hope those all stay pending til Friday when I get paid, bc I've been aggressively paying down another balance. so, the above ugliness notwithstanding, I had mentioned an obnoxious interest rate on a BT card that was processed as a cash advance for some reason. tonight I set up the payment to pay OFF that 22.49% interest balance on 01Jun. I'll also be paying $1000 to that low interest card in 3 days when I get paid again. that's a huge weight off my shoulders that lets me focus on other balances. woot!
