Update
Lazysundays 5/25/18 $1275/$60,000 by spring 2020.
Yikes 2% of goal. My intention is to also use all of extra paychecks and leftover YNAB category funds to help this along. I just added other savings categories for other goals in ynab. Need to reconsider the amounts to keep this goal at a minimum of $1600 per month...
I tend to think of the turtle as my spirit animal. Slow and steady does not scare me.

plugginaway22 --6/1/18 ($10,225 of goal $16,800) Also have $3455 in new HSA account. I continue to struggle with the spending right now. The gardening season along with a 10 day visit with DS = $$money flowing out the door. But it is my favorite time of year and makes me so happy. I also purchased airfare for our August trip which will be due by July 1st. Slow and steady progress.

It wasn't a great month savings wise, we had to tap into the E.F. to pay for H's new to him truck to go to the transmission shop. Yup, we haven't even expired the temporary plate and the transmission went out. I had a bad feeling that was a too good to be true truck- but he had his heart set on it. It's looking like we can get a used replacement for about $700. We have a secondary savings that I don't track here that has enough to cover it, so I hope once we do that, we will at least be paying a loan payment on a WORKING truck. Oh Murphy, you just love to play games!

Payday update moved $355 to savings this week - moving the needle 1% at a time LOL but I know from experience the savings will add up
5/18/18 Azucena $11,032 of $25,000 for 44% (stretch $35,000 32%) Payday update moved $437 to savings this week. Going to tank my balance soon when I pay off the rest of our cruise and buy flights. Trying to cut back on other spending like eating out and shopping to minimize the damage. I should also gain ground because summer camp was all paid for in March. 6/1/18 Azucena $11,469 of $25,000 for 46% (stretch $35,000 33%)

Hello Savers, The end of the month caught up with me and I didn't send out a reminder to post your Saver numbers. I hope you have been looking at a calendar to see that it was indeed the end of the month and know you should post your updates without any reminders from me . So, I will work on the smilies on Saturday night, June 2. Please get your updates in, if you haven't already. Thank you!

I am going to join this thread. I wanted to wait until I paid off the credit card to start savings, but some savings opportunities have a now or never aspect to them. For instance, IRA accounts. My savings goal right now is for my 2018 IRA. I currently have $2,620.55 in my savings account. My goal is $5,500.00 by April 15, 2019. Wish me luck! I'm still stuck in the same place.
I have new monthly expenses and I feel overwhelmed. Had to buy a newer car, now I have car payments and higher insurance bill.
Fortunately, I haven't had to touch the amount I already have in savings for the 2018 IRA. My mom arrives in a few days and she usually brings me money from her and my brother as a birthday gift. Other years I didn't mind, but this time I need the cash infusion. I feel so embarrassed that I am looking forward to it.
The other thing is that my manager increased my yearly bonus from 3 percent to 10 percent with my promotion. So even if I cannot add any more to my savings, I should be able to reach my goal with the bonus in mid-March.

Savers, The end of the month is rapidly approaching. Please get your updates posted by Friday, May 4. I'll do the smilies that evening.Thank you! With the tax season pretty much over, we should be settling down to more regular savings from now until year end. Is there anything you plan to do to boost savings to reach your goals maybe a little sooner? No. I have a planned business travel (which included travel time, overtime, and personal vehicle mileage), rebates (I need to get focused!) and just working a lot of overtime.

yup, forgot again. last weekend was a crazy holiday long weekend with guests, though. I won't beat myself up about it. I stopped at the dive bar Friday night to catch the end of the Red Sox game, played some Keno while I was there. cost me $20 for 20 games, and I came up with a little over $200 in winnings. woo hoo! one of the winning tickets netted me a crisp $50 bill, so that's going into the jar to cover two weeks' worth of cards. I'll add the 8 of ($24) and the King of diamonds ($26). total for 2018 = $910 chiver78 $368

And again, I missed the cut off for the month. Ooops! There are so many moving parts right now - phew! Dr appts, therapy appts, DH is applying for a new job, after being a SAHD for several years, our kiddos are slowly moving up to full time in school rather than being half & half. If DH gets this job, it will be a major shift in our entire family dynamic, structure, etc. Time will tell, but we have a busy time ahead of us, for sure! Moving the kids to fulltime day care means an expense that I didn't plan on when I built this year's budget & the minivan's payoff plan. It is very hard for me to back off that plan, especially when we are sooooo close! However, if DH is offered the job, we will be able to really speed some things up, which would be very nice. Haha. Time will tell!

Making progress, thanks to the finalization of some legal stuff that started early last spring. We got back a portion of our legal fees, which I immediately used to pay off our minivan. (I also took some $$ out of our ER fund to make it happen.) It was/is worth it to be done with that debt! I reworked our spending plan for the rest of the year - so far we'll still be able to meet our goals, I believe. Time will tell, right? We are starting a new type of therapy for our 4yo, that may or may not be covered by insurance - if it is covered, it probably will not be covered at the frequency we need. So many moving parts! But I have to say, in 20 years, no one will ever be able to accuse us of not trying absolutely everythng to help our kiddos! Our one big treat to ourselves this year is a new fridge & dishwasher. (The door shelves on our current fridge frequently come crashing down. Delightful, right? Ha.) I have picked what we're getting, I just need to quadruple check measurements! Adulting is fun.

While trying desperately to save and build up our account, this is what I WANT. New king size mattress set, new refrigerator, replacement wedding rings (37 yrs old), new kitchen table and chairs, mini trip to the beach before September (our big vaca already planned). Like I always told my kiddos... Is it a WANT or is it a NEED?
DH just bought a new lawnmower after getting it repaired for the past 4 years. Our 8 year old dog had an expensive vet visit. I guess those were needs.

6/1/18 Azucena $11,469 of $25,000 for 46% (stretch $35,000 33%) payday update, put away $1145. Really should have been more but my frivolous spending is out of control so credit card balance was larger than it should have been. I feel like I'm losing my grip on tight spending patterns for the first time in my life. Even the kids are realizing that I will buy more of their wants than usual. Going to stop going to the store and looking at fb marketplace. Need to immerse myself in work the next couple of weeks anyway. 6/15/18 Azucena $12,614 of $25,000 for 50% (stretch $35,000 36%)

plugginaway22 can you prioritize one "want" (or even two) at a time?

SOOO... I decided that I am finally ready to join the Savers, because we just sold a studio to pay off our very expensive house repairs. For the first time in YEARS, we have money in the bank!!! BUT ... I don't want to spend what's left. AND, selling that studio means we'll have 500e less in income every month (gross, not net).
My three immediate wants/needs are: - a new laptop for me (mine died several years ago, I'm using DS2's old one but it's been going wonky)
- a new laptop for DS3 (we promised him this as his 20th birthday gift. His is 7 years old.)
- to pay off our kitchen loan. We actually had TWO kitchen loans. I've already paid off the smaller one. DH wanted me to pay off the bigger one too but I didn't. I preferred to keep the cash and continue to pay 189e/month.
I'm thinking I probably belong on the Racers' thread instead of the Savers' thread. I have 3 wants/needs for now. 1 of those (the kitchen) is already a bank loan. Things have been SO TIGHT FOR SO LONG that I'd rather hoard the cash and take a low interest/short term loans for the two computers. So it seems somewhat "dishonest" for me to post here, knowing that when DS3 and I REALLY need a new computer we will buy one, even on credit. But on the other hand, if I can save even part of the cost of those computers, the loans would be smaller. We also have a rental building reno coming up, renos of the two bedrooms that were badly damaged by the subsidence (and which haven't been reno'd in 15 or 20 years so they're long overdue), and we'll be needing a new car sooner than later (we only have one car). I'm OK with using the savings from the sale of the studio for the bedrooms and the rental reno, ie for anything that appreciates. But I DON'T want to use that money for things that depreciate, ie computers or a car. Does this make sense?
Dunno. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Very sorry for this long post! ETA: Maybe I should start small and just try to save 100/mo for my computer and for DS3's computer? We're both waiting for the new Mac Air that will come out later this year. DS3 says he may prefer a Macbook. If he does, he can pay the difference himself. (This said he paid for his last computer and it's lasted far longer than anyone else's.)
ETA2: We have yours/mine/our accounts so my computer would come out of MY account, DS3's computer and the kitchen loan would come out of OUR account.

debthaven, it sounds like you want some $ in savings, because you've not had much for so long. Makes sense. What you could do if it works for you is buy the computers while executing a plan to save for them, which will actually replenish your savings fund. The savings fund could be used as an EF or just for security (I have a goal of a security fund, because I want the feeling of money in the bank.) If you do it this way you won't have another loan to pay off, but will be building up some capital.
