Alright folks. Got enough food that should last me into next week. A little tighter if I lose power but if that's the case (many reasons why is unlikely) I'm heading to my parents first thing. Gas tank full. If I go anywhere before the storm it's just walking.
So now I just gotta make more ice, charge things, download things, and clean my water containers.

Yup, I'm in a mandatory evacuation but no one is leaving. In fact my neighbors kids are coming to her house to stay. hopefully you guys won't be calling emergency services to come for any reason. Those people shouldn't have to risk their lives to rescue people who were told to leave. Nope. I never would do that.

Good luck everybody and be safe. Harvey was a bitch here in TX. I have board members in the areas hit hardest with homes that are a total loss and/or offices that need major repairs. Some have been without power for over a week and haven't even been able to leave their neighborhood. I get antsy after being in the house for 2 days so this sounds like a total nightmare to me.

Fill your bath tubs with water so you can dip a bucket of it out to flush the toilets in case the water company pumps go down!
Or - if you have a pool full of water - never mind...
Good luck! Let us know how you do.

LOL Reminds me of The Last Man on Earth and his "pool toilet".

Hurricane forecast shifted west. We're finishing up evacuating the house (county just issued mandatory evacuation for the zone the house is in.) Will be heading down to our work building to finish securing it then deciding if we shelter there or go to one of the county shelters. Hoping it's a cat 3 or less by the time it gets here so we can shelter at work rather than the county shelters, but we'll work it out by tomorrow afternoon. All OK. Yes I live in NW GA and the amended path looks like it will come right over us, but by that time it will be only 40 MPH winds and 3 - 4 inches of rain - which Floridians would probably call 'a light drizzle.'
Good luck!

My BFF's parents live in Beaumont and their sewer system started to back up so they couldn't use the toilets at all for several days. Apparently they were pooping in plastic bags

Trying to decide if I should stop and pick up a second bottle of wine since my mom will be staying with us for a few days. Maybe 2 extra bottles...

I am laughing at DH. We went to dinner and I had a fair amount of wine so pretty tipsy. We want to pick up our weekend lottery draws and stop at 711 where there is a line. He said "I don't want to wait in line with a bunch of tipsy people. I said, "wait a minute I am tipsy" !

I hope the Hemingway house and cats make it through this. I just heard they were all staying put.

Those people shouldn't have to risk their lives to rescue people who were told to leave. Once wind speed reaches a sustained 45 MPH, ambulances, fire trucks and other high-profile vehicles cannot be on the roads. Police cruisers can, and generally try to remain on the roads (mostly to keep the onlookers going to the beach away from it) until winds reach a sustained 70 MPH. Once that happens, even the cops go inside. 911 operators will take calls, of course. But no one comes out to rescue anyone, evacuation zone or otherwise, in those conditions. High-profile vehicles tip over. And although police cruisers are built like tanks, they cannot survive a falling tree or other heavy missile debris. I am a borderline evacuation zone - on the other side of a small river bridge is a non-evacuation zone. A matter of less than a half-mile. Than non-evac zone is surrounded by two branches of a river, east and west. I have a branch of the river to the west, and no water to the east for more than 2 miles. I have no idea how the county figured out these zones. The houses on the west side of the bridge have flooded before. We on the east side never have. Historically, the zones make no sense.

Stressing me out though, especially when they're saying Key West is really going to get it bad. I love that place and those kitties. My parents have a couple timeshares down there and whenever I'm there (all of three times, LOL) I always go visit them.

Key West has been hit many times and the cats survive better than the people or their homes.

They reconfigured evac zones in our area in 2015. We are now in the median evac zone instead of the last evac zone. Tropical storm Debby brought the lake within 6-8 ft of the back of the house but we did not flood. The worst we have had since I have owned this house in Aug 2000 was a 4 hour power outage during a tropical storm.

This bad though? Even Mariel Hemingway was begging them to just get themselves and the cats out that it was "just a house" and they didn't need to stay to protect it and the contents. Hopefully they took a couple of the breeder cats with them to keep the original polydactal line going if the rest are wiped out.

I hope the Hemingway house and cats make it through this. I just heard they were all staying put. Cats are survivors. Yeah, but not when the wind scraps everything off an island.
I suspect there's some sort of shelter that won't get 'scrapped' off the island and that is where the people staying will be. Hopefully they will be able to coax the cats into that place before the storm hits. I would imagine they do some sort of 'it's dinner time' ritual where the cats HAVE to come into a special area to get fed. I'm assuming the cats are somewhat feral.
I have a "indoor" Feral Cat... and I had to build up trust and 'ritual' around getting fed so she'd let me get close to her/pet her... I did that so I'd have some chance of actually catching her should I need to crate her. Cause otherwise I'd need a tranquilizer gun and/or one of those poles with a noose or maybe a net to catch her. She's my first "feral" hosuecat - she has NO desire to leave the house - even if all the doors are wide open to the Great Outdoors and no one is around - she won't leave the house. And she's NEVER within arms reach of a human... EVER. I love the silly little animal.

It's not easy to catch those cats. They're pretty tame. They said they're bringing them all in the house. And a bunch are on meds so the vets dropped off enough meds to last them several weeks, so they must catch them for that.
