I'll mention it to my wife. I read the Wiki synopsis. It sounds thoughtful and poignant, but isn't really my cup of tea.

Want a GREAT movie? Osama. Made in Afghanistan on a shoestring budget of about $45,000. Won all kinds of awards, including a Golden Globe for best foreign language film. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osama_(film)

Do you call it a great movie because you found it entertaining? Found it enlightening? It changed your worldview somehow?

It's great because they made it on next to no money.
It's great because they used regular citizens instead of actors.
It's great because I found it extremely enlightening.

You wanted no violence and no sex, but you shoot down all my recommendations. May I suggest a documentary on tractor production in the Ukraine?

actually The Man in the High Castle (Amazon Prime) is pretty good and satisfies most of your reqs.
- some violence but not graphic or gratuitous - major characters who sometimes make questionable choices but with "good" in mind (loyalty to friends/family who are "good" overall) - little/no sexual content (there are 2 sex scenes over 2 seasons - neither was lengthy, didn't show naked body parts, and did somewhat solidify parts of the story [both times it was between characters who were previously at ideological odds]) - the occasional S and F bomb but not in any way excessive
It's a show based on a novel about an alternate universe detailing what the world (the US in particular) would be like if the Nazis won WWII. There are elements of time travel as well.

So, going to the other end of the spectrum from what Virgil is requesting, has anyone watched Altered Carbon? I like sci-fi, so I love the story, but wow.

okay movingforward - I'm still watching Dark. It's getting really interesting with the boy being that one kid's father (I think)...

I'll mention it to my wife. I read the Wiki synopsis. It sounds thoughtful and poignant, but isn't really my cup of tea. I've seen that movie. It really is fantastic. Based in pre-independence India, set in a centuries old town where old customs rule and flourish. The backdrop is Indian independence movement and the ancient traditions that impact a young lady. Such a great movie. Another Bollywood movie that I watched with my Indian friend and came out absolutely fascinated was "Black". Its about a deaf/blind girl and her struggles to be accepted, to be educated and how an old teacher with Alzheimer impacts her life. Beautifully crafted. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_(2005_film)

I think around episode 8 or 9 I looked up the family tree for the 3 families online to make sure I had everyone straight. I like how they show both the older and younger version of the person side by side at times. That helps too.

whoa. There is a HUGE difference between pornography and what is appropriate for a 10 year old to do on screen. Or in life. You either have a way different definition of pornographic than the reasonable definition of pornographic, or you are okay with 10 year olds doing stuff that reasonable people do not think 10 year olds should be doing. I don't care which it is, but you if you are hoping for people to narrow stuff down for you on that criteria you are going to get a really weirdly mixed bag of recommendations. I'm limiting the scope of the comparison to sexual activities. But to be perfectly specific: no exposed genitals or breasts with the intent of titillating the viewership (nudity is fine in other contexts). No on-screen sex. No sex toys, fetishism, or heavy sexual innuendo. Couples kissing and fooling around, even in bed, is fine, albeit usually filler. So, would implied/hinted at sex (rape, violence) be OK? In other words, would a "police procedural" be out of the question because they generally have plots based on violence/sex against women/children?
Would Broadchurch (on Netflix) be out of the running for viewing?

I am about halfway through the first season of Bordertown (Finnish show). I like it...not for Virgil though.

What about animated movies? Here's the ones I've seen that work well for adults. Some are aimed at kids but still entertaining for adults and some are aimed at adults (but without the typical sex, violence, language that adults seem to need in entertainment). Up Despicable Me A Cat in Paris (yes, it's fun for adults - it's a French film) The Triplets of Bellville Zootopia Hugo (ok, maybe this isn't animated it sure looked like it) Steamboy The Pirates: Band of Misfits (a very funny movie!) Frankenweenie (very funny even if you haven't seen the Horror B-movies it honors).
The Secret of Kells (you want to watch this on a quality TV screen... it's stunningly beautiful AND a good story).
More aimed at teens/adults do to theme/plot:
Mary and Max (may need a hankie at the end
The Wind Rises (it too is beautiful and will give you something to think/talk about).

Loved the first 75% of it. The rest was okay, but not as good as the earlier episodes. Holy cow, I've never seen so much nudity onscreen outside of porn. It really did mesh with the story, though in some scenes it was completely unnecessary. In this future scenario, people's memories are recorded on some alien technology that replaces on of the vertebrae at the base of your neck, and bodies are called "sleeves" and can be replaced when damaged or aged. Bodies can also be rented, or confiscated when someone is sent to jail. Bodies are treated more like clothing, and death isn't as feared or avoided when most are able to come back. Anyway, this show was based on a book, so I may just have to check it out.

You'd probably understand what was happening on the show better in that order. I'm still not sure I followed everything. The first episode was a lot of trying to figure out what was going on. I like that, though. Usually I'm way ahead on figuring things out.

I need to get back to watching Dark. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but lately I've been really into watching walk-through gameplay of Life Is Strange on YouTube. It really is like a sci-fi type mini-series with two possible endings (both good).

I can barely keep up with Netflix these days. A new show seems to be added daily. Oh well, it's not like they are going anywhere.

Thanks, Tiny . I've copied your amended list so that people can quote it: 13 Reasons Why - "drama about a girl who kills herself" Alias Grace - ? American Horror Story - Horror (?) Anne With an E - ? Archer - "Sweetie, no." (Looked it up: apparently a cartoon that "follows the exploits of a dysfunctional group of secret agents")Atypical - "about a high functioning boy with Autism" Bates Motel - Killer (?) Breaking Bad - Man cooking and selling methamphetamines The Crown - "insights into the life of Queen Elizabeth's early life" Captive - "a true crime regarding hostage/kidnapping situations" Curious and Unusual Deaths - ? Dave Chappelle - Comedian (?) David Blain - ? Dexter - Serial killer The Do Over - ? GLOW - ? Grace and Frankie - "Two older ladies find that their husbands are gay and want to be together" House of Cards - Political corruption, murder, betrayal The Indian Detective - Crime procedural (?) Intelligence - "a major marijuana drug seller and his trials and tribulations" Jessica Jones - "devil takes over innocent humans and makes them do awful stuff" type horror/storiesKevin Heart - ? The Killing - "Murder show" (crime procedural, like "Law and Order"?) Longmire - "Police drama set in Wyoming" Luke Cage - This is a Marvel Comics show. It's probably got violence, violence, and sex in it.Master of None - ? Mindhunter - "about FBI profiling serial killers" Night Shift, ER - Medical drama similar to 'ER' (?) The Office - Comedy about office life Orange is the New Black - Drama about a women's prison (?) Ozark - Man laundering money for drug cartel People vs O.J. - O.J. Simpson trial (?) Preacher - a couple of nitwit Angels have, um, misplaced an imprisioned celestial power (um, maybe a dark angel/Lucifer) and it's been released on earth and taken up residence in the title characterThe Ranch - ? Rectify - "teenager sentence[d] to death row for a murder/rape he did not commit" Retribution - ? Revenge - ? The Ridiculous 6 - ? Santa Clarita Diet - ? Shameless - "An f-ed up family in Chicago. Lots of cursing, drugs and sex scenes." Stranger Things - "about aliens and/or the supernatural", "more 'horror' genre homage" ; It is an homage to the 80's, to horror, sci-fi, fantasy, nerds/geeks though. Transporter The Series - ? True Memoirs of an International Assassin - Assassins (?) Unbreakable Kimmy - ? Voltron Legendary Defender - ? The Walking Dead - Zombies (?) The Ranch--comedy about potty mouthed ranchers in a tiny Colorado town. Lots of drinking and f bombs. Sam Elliot and Ashton Kutcher star. Revenge--nighttime soap opera about youngish woman going back to the Hamptons to get revenge on the richy-rich people who framed her dad, and basically stole everything they had. This was originally on network tv, and I don't think it had much sex/violence/naughty talk at all. I liked this series, though only watched a season or 2 of it. ETA: the Ranch dealt with the topic of abortion in an impressively even handed way. I don't think either side would be upset by watching it.

I finished Dark season 1... looking forward to what Season 2 will bring.
I watched the first episode of Friends From College. I really wanted to like it, especially since it has so many actors I like, but it's trying too hard to be funny IMO.

Watched two episodes of Safe last night. I am enjoying it. I love Harlan Coben novels so I was excited to see a TV show created by him.
