Follow the $$$. $50 million. Who cares what kind of world we leave our children and grandchildren? Yeah, don't pretend like you care about children and grandchildren as you suck up all the Social Security and Medicare funds you can get at the cost of screwing over future generations, all while simultaneously supporting sucking up more money in taxes and "Affordable" health insurance from these same kids making it impossible to save extra money to make up for the lesser SS funds. Although, I suppose that's why you want future generations to have a nicer outside environment since that's where they'll have live

Using the UN's own numbers, the most optimistic projection of the benefits of the Paris Accord- assuming all nations complied with its requirements and met their objectives- is that in 10 years, at a cost of $100 trillion dollars, the Earth's climate would be 86 100ths of a degree cooler than it otherwise would be. In my opinion, there's simply no accounting for people who make such projections, and craft these kinds of solutions save that they have an agenda unrelated to climate change-- like a big fucking slush fund, and a mechanism by which they can take control of the lives of everyone on the planet, and transfer wealth from producers to their own idle useless pockets. OK, this is the start of that cost/benefit analysis I asked for. thanks Paul. so 100T in cost for, let's say 1 degree cooler. What's the cost per 1 degree of heating? Looking at our unbiased friend at the NRDC, they claim 250B/year in the US. If the US is 15% of GDP and we use that as a proxy, then cost would be 15%/250B = 1.7T/year so breakeven would be 100T/1.7T = about 60 years to break even. EXCEPT, if you consider the Net PResent Value of the money, it's actually negative. thanks, that's what I thought www.nrdc.org/sites/default/files/cost.pdfWell, yes- negative- EXCEPT this optimistic scenario requires you accept two completely unproven things: 1. The earth has been warming since the end of the last ice age, but you'd have to believe that since the beginning of the industrial revolution human activity is responsible for 100% of the warming. There's no actual scientific evidence that human activity is responsible for ANY climate change (formerly Global Warming- formerly Global Cooling). 2. They are 100% correct in the calculations that have led to these assumptions- e.g. there will ACTUALLY BE a rise in global mean temperatures of PRECISELY 3 degrees, and this agreement will result in an impact of PRECISELY 1.8 degress in a 100 year period. It's truly absurd when you think about it; and all the caterwauling about Trump effectively declaring the end of the planet without the participation of 1 of the nations party to the accord. But here's what it's really about (if you guessed money and economics-- you guessed right)...

All Other Nations Combined $0…That part of the headline from Paul's post is total hogwash. Other countries have, indeed, paid into the fund. The above is one of the reasons I have absolutely no use for anything from The Conservative Treehouse. They'll lie without blinking an eye. They're no better than those phony news sites that end with .co. The UK has contributed, as has Japan. I don't know about other country's contributions as I haven't completed my research on the subject. It just pisses me off to see crap like this passed off as truth without ANY research being done to be sure it's correct. So far, over $10B has been contributed and it ain't all from us! Bitch if you must, but bitch truthfully, at least.

The Young Cons website also reported on the march....with pictures of a Trump rally in the US. #fakenews

Lol! Bill Whittle? Why on earth should I listen to Bill Whittle? He's a Conservative blogger and Tea Partier, not a scientist. Hmmm...Bill Whittle vs Stephen Hawking.....my money is not on Bill Whittle.

Put up some imaginary, over the top, supposedly "liberal" stance before anything actually gets discussed. Quickly get to the fox news stereotypes that are familiar ground to ridicule. Far better that than hearing the real concerns of your fellow Americans.

Now that ten days have pasted since Trump has pulled out of the Paris Accord, Are we back to driving that 1956 Buick Century yet? Has Larsen"C' fallen off Antarctica flooded most of the World yet?? I mean a little over a week ago these were some of the most pressing issues facing the collapse of the entire World!!! Oh man, it is so hard to keep up with the destruction of mankind, It seem like just last week the annihilation of the free World rest on what Confefe meant! This week it was about who is lieing! Maybe we can put some kinda advance program on what the destruction of man is going to be next week, so I can do my job without have to worry about the next Global crisis

So happy to see states joining Paris independently. In other news this is part of what will fuel a separation in this country.

Do you even read your own links, OldCoyote ? In each of your links, the words 'could' and 'could be' are wriiten quite frequently. From your first link: "Just last year two top scientists surprised their colleagues by projecting that the Arctic sea ice was melting so rapidly that it could disappear entirely by the summer of 2040. "This week, after reviewing his own new data, NASA climate scientist Jay Zwally said: "At this rate, the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free at the end of summer by 2012, much faster than previous predictions." From your second link: "Gore said that on Sept. 21, 2007, "scientists reported with unprecedented alarm that the North Polar icecap is, in their words, 'falling off a cliff.' One study estimated that it could be completely gone during summer in less than 22 years. Another new study to be presented by U.S. Navy researchers later this week warns that it could happen in as little as seven years, seven years from now.""

And do you understand, OldCoyote , both articles are speaking about summer ice and not winter ice. I hope you are scientifically savvy enough to understand summer temperatures are warmer than winter temperatures, yes? Remember when you posted the waters around Tahiti were colder than the waters around Alaska? It turned out you didn't know how to read scientific data.

Is Summer Arctic ice gone now? Is it summer yet? The NG link mentions ice gone by 2040. Is it 2040 yet?

It's not just drowning that threatens polar bears in terms of global warming. But again, that requires an understanding of the nuance of this issue not just screaming, exaggerated headlines.

It isn't like these predictions weren't acted upon - in order to forestall them? i.e. prevent the prediction. The international communities has been addressing this for a few decades. One piece of that was: which occurred the same year as that prediction. In addition to national and international efforts, many private citizens are trying to do their part as well. And of course, the other side is that a specific predication - especially one with a date, is not guaranteed, especially in a system with 1000000+ moving parts.
