No not Laura, lol. Jerry Brown, Governor of California telling Trump better not mess with California on Meet the Press Sunday. Shocked no one here has talked about it, but then he is special snowflake. www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/gov-jerry-brown-trump-you-don-t-want-mess-california-n738636My wife and I were planning six days in San Francisco area and do a Red Wood forest tour this summer. Not any more. No Sanctuary state for us! Yes, I know it means nothing to him, but six thousand dollars for us......to spend somewhere else. Maybe North Carolina?

How do you justify living in Florida during the past few winters when Florida has sanctuary cities.

PS- it's Redwood. just FYI.

We don't really need the extra traffic north of San Francisco anyway.
For what it's worth, there's lots of redwood options in more conservative areas of the state.

NYC is just plain sick these days www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/city-leaders-defy-white-house-threat-on-sanctuary-policies/ar-BByWCEP?li=BBnb7KzHow many decades has the Federal Government threatened to with hold federal dollars from cities and states if they did not follow federal laws? And now all of a sudden it is an outrage where they will defy the government. Yeh, right. Bring it on Democrats bring it on. Hope the President doubles down and goes after the Dreamers now. Illegal is illegal. Not only drain the swamps in D.C. drain the democratic bastions of the big cities. This is where the waters feeding the swamp is.

And why did you used to have to worry about it? I know a couple U.S. citizens who grew pot in national parks. No respone on you spending your winters in Florida which has sanctuary cities?

No response for asinine questions that are simple diversions from the thread. Your deflection of threads is very well known by everyone here on the boards. You do not want me going on the threads pointing it out for all future such posts. It will get very boring, and the mods will simply tell us to cool it.

I saw a piece on the news where reports of sexual assaults by Hispanics is now down 25% and domestic violence is down 10%. The victims are afraid they are going to be deported. ICE agents are trolling courthouses for them.

California is as close to becoming a Sanctuary state as we have.....other than Oregon. Mess with California, I hope the President does. Now Florida...... is fast becoming a red state again, due to midwesterners moving here in bigger numbers than the old democrats from NYS. Miami wants to stay a sanctuary city, but even their Mayor is rethinking the potential loss of Federal largesse. Miami is fast becoming a non factor in elections here. Part of it is the Cuban population is turning towards the Republican party. The northern half of the state is very red, and the gulf coast is soon to follow. If we counted Canadians, it would be a strong blue state, but fortunately the Canadians who own property here prefer to remain Canadians. Funny thing is none of them fly their country's flag down here, unlike both legal and illegal immigrants from south of the border. They happen to be better "citizens" here, or visitors, if you prefer, than our legal and illegal immigrant population is.....although their avowed preference for Democratic party socialism hit nerves down here. And if you become a citizen here, you have no state income tax. Many New Jersey, NY state, and NYC refugee millionaires have made the move to escape the oppressive government taxation in their home state and come out of the political closet and turn Republican here I admit we may have to start maintaining our own lawns down here soon, but the trade off is a small price to pay for the end results. It presently is hard to find a state that does not have sanctuary cities these days? Does Tennessee? I could see us moving there, in the Smokie Mountains somewhere. Greenest state in the land of the Free! but that might be fake news from Walt Disney, idk............ Many schools have large illegal immigrant children populations here in Florida draining school resources that do not need to be drained for that purpose. Who does it hurt the most down here? The black children who need more resource tools to succeed in life. This is also true for the big northern cities struggling under the same issues. I am the first to admit Florida has a struggling black population here. Better education can be the first step to help them.

The foot lose and fancy lifestyle for them is over. Have a link to your opinion piece for that?

More fake news from CBS like with Ted Koppel Sunday, lol I do admit to watching the CBS Evening news pretty regularly, so I do accept the source although it is highly opinionated. I missed it last night due to my night to take the wife out. I watched NBC news for 40 years, but have since banned them for my viewing pleasure.

Miami wants to stay a sanctuary city, but even their Mayor is rethinking the potential loss of Federal largesse. Miami is fast becoming a non factor in elections here. Part of it is the Cuban population is turning towards the Republican party. The votes poured in on Election Night Tuesday: about 575,000 more for Clinton than Donald Trump in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties. That was more than 100,000 votes better than President Barack Obama, who defeated Mitt Romney by about 472,000 votes in the same media market four years ago.Read more here: www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/election/article113778053.html#storylink=cpy Florida’s Hispanic voter surge wasn’t enough for Clinton The northern half of the state is very red, and the gulf coast is soon to follow. If we counted Canadians, it would be a strong blue state, but fortunately the Canadians who own property here prefer to remain Canadians. Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville, while notcdeclared sanctuary cities, have police forces sympathetic to illegal immigrants. So you might not want to winter here. Kansas and Nebraska don't have any sanctuary cities so you might want to consider wintering there.

No, the problem is that victims and witnesses are not coming forward for fear of deportation, which means that violent criminals are not being charged and tried. The Chief Justices for both Washington and California have sent letters requesting that ICE agents not stake out courthouses to find and arrest illegals. I am all in favor of ICE agents doing their job and deporting every person who is in the country illegally, but not at the expense of decreasing enforcement of the laws against violent criminals. That is not a good trade-off. ICE agents should be able to do their jobs legitimately, rather than harming us by taking shortcuts.

My understanding has always been that the cities will not utilize their resources to enforce immigration law. It is not at all a, "Come here! Be safe! Be free!" thing. They are still subject to arrest and deportation, but local officials do not prioritize it.

As I see it, the problem with individual states permitting sanctuary cities is threefold: - it exacerbates the problem of illegal migrants amassing in the US and makes expelling them all the more intractable and painful
- with the stroke of a pen, a future federal administration could grant US citizenship to residents of sanctuary cities, allowing them to disperse beyond CA's borders to become the whole country's problem
- it sets a precedent whereby states that don't care for federal law can (and undoubtedly will) tell the feds to go pound sand
With any luck, Mexico will annex California, nobody else will care, and the problem solves itself.

To be fair, Bush struggled through prep school and Yale, and was subsequently denied admittance to law school in Texas. Brown went to Yale Law after getting an undergraduate degree elsewhere.

Countless brilliant minds have graduated from Yale. However, "He attended Yale, therefore he's intelligent." isn't an argument. Even if it were, "He's intelligent, therefore he makes good policy decisions." isn't an argument. Even if that were, "He makes good policy decisions, therefore permitting sanctuary cities in California is a good idea." isn't an argument. Hence we've got a bit of work to do here.

I'm not defending Brown here. I even recall one newspaper column from maybe 40 years ago where the writer described Brown as, "the only candidate running who is more confused than the voters." Somehow that line still stands out.

To be fair, this does not disqualify him from being an idiot. Back in the day when msm was sort of fair and balanced, they agreed he was a snowflake. Just sayin
