Wasn't the whole issue, the withholding of Federal funds from the Sanctuary cities? Seems to have little to do with the legalities of creating a duty for states

States rights do not trump federal laws. We'd still have slavery and segregation if that were true. And yet the Feds cannot stop the legalization of pot across the country |

Wasn't the whole issue, the withholding of Federal funds from the Sanctuary cities? Seems to have little to do with the legalities of creating a duty for states California is seriously considering becoming a Sanctuary state. Saw o the cable network last night California receives a billion dollars a day from the Federal government in grants and contracts, etc. The day they become one, cut the funding off. |

There has to be a connection — a nexus — between the federal funds and the local program that’s being stiffed. Presumably federal healthcare dollars, for example, can’t be withheld merely because a state refuses to help the feds enforce immigration laws. Second, an executive order such as Trump signed is not a statute. A federal statute — a law — can only be passed by Congress. And Congress has the exclusive power to appropriate money.

I know our area gets a lot of federal dollars through federal law enforcement grants. That could be what he is going to cut off ? |
