I recently read a *very* funny book which contained a generalization about men who are looking for women to date. I have no idea how true to life it is, not being a guy, but it made me laugh:
1. Hot 2. Sane 3. Single
Pick two.

This one can go either way, I think. Yes, it's good to try new things and experience your partner's passion. But... you have to be okay with the possibility of them NOT liking something that may be very important to you and something you spend a lot of your life doing.
This is true...example: was dating a lady four years ago, who was very much into Broadway/theater. I like going to shows, but perhaps a couple per year... so this woman would go to two or three per month. So, twice per month she went with a friend(s), and once with me. I saw shows and perfomances I never knew existed and learned a lot about theater. She also dragged me to see Tom Stoppard's, "The Coast of Utopia", a trilogy. Interesting performances, way over my head. In turn, I dragged her to dance socials in the style of swing dance I do, and she liked it... That is just a single example....

I didnt say you were one of those beergutted trolls who will only date Barbie. Guys who just go for the hotties get what they deserve. I think most guys past the age of 25 are over the hottie thing and want at least an intellectual equal.I'm just busting you up.... Swamp.... I've seen you pic on FBYou stalking me?

DH used to come to my softball games. He learned to keep the book. Not something he ordinarly would have done.

I've played 1000s of Men's Class A softball in the 80s and 90s. I played nearly every position, except pitcher, and regularly hit just over .400. I primarily played right field and had a cannon for an arm.

Women date me only because I am hot looking(ask Lena)... and I am a sex symbol. Hot people don't say they're "hot looking".

Bite me. ROFLMAO...
Usually catcher, filled in a lot at 3rd. I also pitched, SS, rover, and Center. Surprisingly, in good competitive leagues, you cannot hide someone behind the plate. I played that position on occasions.

You put the person who isn't afraid to get run over and can field bad hops behind the plate.

I didn't marry for money either. I got very lucky with my DH, he is really very close to 'perfect'. We disagree a little on spending/saving money styles, but other than that we are pretty darn compatible. We dated when I was 17, he was 20.
If I had to write out what qualities are important to me in a husband- 1. Hardworking (similar work ethic to me). 2. Loving, a good heart (especially since I always crave physical touch, I am a bit clingy). 3. Someone who can make me laugh, enjoy being with him. of course there are a lot of other important factors but these are my top 3. As for earning $, I think as long as he is hardworking and can hold a job, we can manage. As for looks, my Dh was not someone I would say was 'hot' at first glance- good looking, but not special. But after meeting him, there was something about him that reeled me in like a fish on a hook. The more I came to know him, the more attractive he got, and by the time I fell in love with him he was the most attractive guy I could imagine.

Haha, this thread seems particularly ironic to me now since DBF proposed to me last night.

Thanks, Sheila & DQ Drama, what does it say about me that some of my first thoughts revolved around what our budget would be?

what does it say about me that some of my first thoughts revolved around what our budget would beWell that depends. If was how much does a judge and a license cost you are a good YM-er and understand the true meaning of marriage. If it involved more than that you are a wedding obssessed female who doesn't appreciate the value of a dollar whose husband will be paying off the wedding for years. Don't forget to budget in duct tape in case your wedding dress don't fit!

I think I picked a YM winner - turns out he waited till now to propose because he didn't want to marry me while he was in debt (he doesn't have that much but he was worried it would impact me negatively after I've worked so hard to get myself into a good financial position).
I don't care that he has debt but it's awesomely sweet that his instinct was to protect my financial future.

Awesome. So onto the next question. .. when are you going to have kids? Get ready for that one because "First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in the baby carriage" and you will have people who never gave you the time of day before suddenly asking you when you plan to have kids.
