No problem. I'll go instead. I'm all for supporting an organization that prioritized hiring people who helped our troops as translators and in other capacities.

did you actually read your link? why would Starbucks hire Americans in other countries? and why wouldn't they hire people who assisted the US as interpreters for troops and other support staff?

I read the link. I'll go to Starbucks twice as often now... :-)
Over the weekend, I've deleted my Uber app (as much as I like Uber) and will be switching to Lyft (who has pledged $1M to the ACLU)

I did, and he is starting here in the U.S. Why would he have to "explain" any part of it to the workers? Because he decided not to hire American citizens.

According to the announcement, the refugee hiring plan will start with an initial focus on "those individuals who have served with US troops as interpreters and support personnel." " - just FYI! Enjoy DD

Can I ask why? They do something? Besides being ongoing Trump supporters, they crossed boycott lines when taxi service tried to boycott airport due to ban for one hour, uber said they were still running and tried to capitalize on the situation rather than also take a stand. Lyft on the other hand donated a million dollars to ACLU... we vote with our $ in capitalism. You can. Me can too.

Personally, I am appalled that we are limiting refugees and that the immigration ban includes current green card (a te holders who just happened to be out of the country when the order came down. My daughter posted something on my FB feed about Nazanin Zinouri who was in Iran visiting her Mother and Sister. Her Mother is a Widow and sister has MS. She has lived in the US for 7 years. Her car is parked at the airport, her dog is boarded somewhere, and her house and belongings are in limbo. She is a Graduate of NIU and had a 4.0 gpa. She also earned a PHD in Industrial Engineering from Clemson University. She tried to return to the US from Dubai on Saturday and was denied boarding.
They also said there was a Doctor who was to study at Harvard denied entry and other greencard holders. I thought Stem degree holders were desirable. Since when are Engineers and Doctors considered undesirables?
My DD works for Starbucks, I don't think she would quit if I asked her to, but I have no problem with this, I in fact support it. I would support an impeachment of Trump too. As far as Uber goes, I would rather have my kids use Uber (They do) than Drink and drive, so I will not form an opinion on this. I also am not sure them picking up rides at the airport was a huge problem. I think the Taxi's not picking up for and hour was a small inconvenience, but for some people that would be too much. I don't think Uber can cover all the taxi's that normally run from the airport on short notice , I will probably tell my kids to add Lyft to their phones, but I don't think Lyft is as common as Uber.
I really am starting to hate the idea of a wall. I feel trapped in with a mentally unstable wanabe dictator. No telling what horrible acts he will try to commit against groups he considers undesirable, once he shuts down our escape routes. At least when Hitler was in power, the Resistance was able to help the persecuted escape. Congress is showing no signs of standing up to any of Trumps questionable moves.

So you must be okay then with refugees living off government welfare as opposed to paying their own way and paying taxes. We will remember your position.

if our beloved POtuS wants to get into boycotting, i am sure that there are many individuals and countries that will cooperate in boycotting both HIS businesses and the US in general.
he is absolutely free to exercise that right. so are we.

Although Uber did attempt to profit off the taxi strike, my action is based onUber's continued support of Trump

We deleted Uber as well. We really liked to use them when we travel, but I will not be doing business with them anymore. As for Starbucks, looks like I will be needed to up my Starbucks budget! I will happily support them.

Enjoy DD I absolutely support this! My husband's interpreter got a visa to come to the United States, he decided to go to his village to say goodbye to his family (parents and siblings), and he and his wife were gunned down. They never made it to the US. If they help the US, their lives are in danger! His other interpreter was able to make it safely to the US and he has come to visit us a couple of times. He is an amazing man who helped keep my husband alive. I fully support Starbucks in helping out and giving them jobs.

I don't drink coffee or use ride services, but I think corporations should stay out of politics, the same as they shouldn't impose their religion on their employees.

I was listening to this on the radio and I don't get how Starbucks employing refuges IN THE COUNTRIES THEY ARE LOCATED IN, is somehow taking jobs away from Americans. Starbucks is an international business, why does them employing refugees in an European country take jobs away from you? And how is this a bad thing? People on here are always bitching that refugees "won't assimilate". Well it's kinda hard to assimilate into your new country if you cannot find employment and a paycheck. Starbucks with their policy is helping refugees gain employment and start assimilating into their new homes. I really do not get the logic on these boards sometimes.

If politicians make - all the regulations that impact the said businesses, - take campaign donations from the said businesses, - reap the benefits of a strong economy generated by the said businesses, - have a global presence due to the said businesses, then corporations have every right to NOT stay out politics.
