I hope he brings a beanbag chair! That would be epic! I think he should be a sex swing! How can you be a sex swing? Is that some past life stuff?

If it happens, it happens. I wouldn't be a bit surprised, knowing her. I consider the "extras" that have appeared and disappeared over the years the price of having children. If it turns into a lasting relationship for them great, if not all I "lost" was some money while I "gained" my kids trusting that I would always be there for them. I have to admit though that they never brought over a horrible guest like a drunk or a druggie. That would not have been well received. But I met some really nice people this way that I otherwise never would have met...

Well, there's friendly drunk, and then falling over wasted drunk like my dearly departed (sort-of) aunt would get at Christmas. Not such a good memory of her.

My sister is the most annoying drunk. She gets sloppy drunk and stupidness keeps coming out of her mouth. I on the other hand will tell you the same thing over and over again until I eventually fall asleep. My mom get slap happy.

So I went shopping with a friend and bought this unexpected guest some gifts. I'll go the the dollar store today and get him a stocking and some stuff for it. It's a small price to pay for peace. DD will have to bring a chair for him. I have four with my table. you. son daughter.
who is number 4?
And you don't have an office chair you can use?
DS has a girlfriend of a few years.

I think the son has a girlfriend? but that's not immediate family. They live together.

My husband came over our house for Thanksgiving a month after he met me.
He showed up with an apple pie he made. He also went straight into the kitchen and started mixing a dish that my mom was making. I thought it was rude. But my mom thought it was the greatest thing ever.
Now they butt heads in the kitchen all.the.time. I need to remind her how much she loved him that first Thanksgiving.

When DH and I first stated dating, he invited to his parents for Christmas. He didn't think I would say yes but I did. I also invited him to my mom's place too. We had only been dating for 2 weeks by Christmas Day.

My mom's boyfriend is coming over for Christmas. I guess I better figure out what to buy him.

Aside from the good laugh I got from this, I am reminded that Hanukkah and Christmas fall at the same time this year. I'm considering latkes and bacon for breakfast that morning.

I don't have any family.
I am grateful for the people who continue to be willing to make room for me in their family celebrations. We go to a friend's place for a beer tasting and deep-fried turkey with all the fixings. This year's dinner is the 38th Annual Strays Dinner, started by this friend in honor of those who had no family nearby for the holidays. You can be an honorary Stray. Wanna come down? Oh, and NoName should come, too. Between the two of you, it would be the best Christmas ever. And in South FLA, you cannot beat the weather in December.

That sounds like lots of fun. (You had me at beer tasting. Also deep-fried.) I've never been to Florida. It seems I should visit around the holidays should I ever decide to make the trip.
After my long-time friends (and holiday entertainers) moved away a couple of years ago, my neighbors adopted me and now include me in all major holiday celebrations. I think they do it because their dog likes me (we've bonded). I'm very fortunate.

We've got an extra room. And just so you know...we have cats. They will expect you to feed them.

I don't have any family.
I am grateful for the people who continue to be willing to make room for me in their family celebrations. The older I get, the more I appreciate it and worry about those who have none. We have 2 neighbors who are a widow/widower (yeah, I'm still kind of wondering if they'll hook up), where if TD and I were in town, we'd be inviting them over. I and my mom were always the invited even when the host may not have wanted us. My SIL's sister invites me when she invites my SIL and DB for Thanksgiving so I won't be alone. My niece has two girls she invites all the time for things because her daughter loves them. DD is 17 and the other girls are 18 and 17. Their parents don't do anything for them, the girl had no plans for her 18th birthday so my SIL had a dinner party for her. She was there for Christmas and was telling us her parents were having dinner for 4 when my brother was teasing her that we were all going to her house after dinner to eat more food. More than one Easter both girls sleep over even went camping with our family, the parents don't seem to care about them at all. My niece feeds them, pays for things like bowling and has them do sleepovers whenever they want. The parents never send money for the cost of the activities or object to losing their daughters for days at a time. We don't consider these girls to be ruining our family holidays.

He's okay. Just different but if that's what makes her happy for now, so be it. Has no family and never a Christmas. Dad lives in another country and Mom is non existent. I don't see her lasting with him so when the newness wears off, she'll move on. But he was pleasant enough.
