stir fry tonight! we had half a package of chicken breast tenderloins (it was the cheapest package in the store on Thursday when I unexpectedly wanted to cook chicken) and a ton of veggies that wouldn't make it til next week. so, 2c dry of white rice (leftover rice to use with pulled chicken for lunches) and the rest of everything was use-or-pitch.

thank you for the reminder to buy tomatoes, Iggy aka IG. I need to do that today, too. I'm not sure what the plan is for dinner tonight. I have about half of an eggplant that I should do something with, or pitch. maybe I'll roast cubes and toss in a bruschetta pasta bowl. roommate can join me, or not. but if I do that, I definitely need more tomatoes!

Last night we had smothered pork chops and roasted Japanese sweet potatoes.
Cost? $14? Some leftover "smother" and some leftover sauteed peppers and onions.
Not sure what tonight will be. It's rainy and raw here. Maybe something I can cook in the oven to take the chill out...

I just heated up a shephard's pie from Market Basket for DH, specifically because it's so raw and icky out. I'm eating a left-over steak tip Caesar salad that I forgot to eat and baking some potato skins. It is definitely the weather for this.

We lost power about a half hour ago, so, sadly, LOL, I will not be cooking tonight. I can't even grill because it is raining so hard. Bummer. Guess we'll have to get takeout. ;-)~

I have authentic potstickers/dumplings made by my SIL's father. They are YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!! And I am somewhat surprised I haven't eaten them all yet, actually.

That's a VERY tempting offer!! :-) I live in a town with a very high concentration of trees. Our town DPW likes to make fun of residents' preference for thick tree canopies. Unfortunately, trees and wind don't mix well. We often lose power in storms. Mine usually kicks back on pretty quickly because of my proximity to the fire station. I figure by the time I drive to your house the power in mine will be back on. Not that I wouldn't still love to visit, but let's do it for a fun reason, not because Nstar or National Grid or Eversource won't bury their power lines. ;-)

And glad I'm not the only one who isn't sure what name the power companies go by anymore. My electric is Reading Light but my gas is National Grid. For now anyway.

Had pork tenderettes, fried potatoes, gravy, corn, home made yeast rolls, sliced tomatoes, from the garden the last.

Thawed some spaghetti sauce and boiled pasta. The sauce needed used and I used a handful of pasta out of the box. Maybe $0.50.

thawed and reheated a portion of shredded rotisserie chicken, tossed that in a green salad. I spent $2 on plum tomatoes yesterday, used one in the salad. everything else was approaching "use or pitch" so cost was maybe a quarter?

I've been thinking about trying chiver78's Crockpot Black Bean Pulled Chicken (in the crockpot thread in the Entrees section of the Recipe section at the bottom of the home page). But, I only have fresh, not frozen, BSCB at the moment. Chive? Have you made it with fresh BSCB? Any tweaks you can recommend?

I don't think I've ever made it with fresh BSCB before. my best guess would be to cook on low, maybe 3-4 hours? I definitely wouldn't go far from the crockpot and watch it. sorry I'm not much help. I know that wvugurl26 makes this pretty often, maybe she's made it with fresh chicken and can chime in.

I've done it several times with fresh chicken. I didn't adjust the cook time. I didn't find it to be dried out or over cooked. My brother didn't complain and he prefers thighs to chicken breasts. That's why I've ended up doing it with fresh so much. I've been better about getting the breasts on sale and freezing it just for this.
I actually put this in the crockpot this morning. I have a ton of work to get done tonight and I need to bring lunch tomorrow.
Oh for GRG, I use a can of drained Rotel in mine. You may have the diced tomatoes but I never do. However, we always have Rotel and black beans in the pantry.

It's late here to start this now, but I think I will anyway and have it on hand for the weekend if it isn't ready by dinner time (we eat late anyway -- 8:00 ish).

great minds think alike, ladies typically, I use a hot salsa and a can of drained diced tomatoes w/chilis. I'm not a fan of my most recent batch, I didn't use nearly enough chicken (I bought el cheapo Tyson frozen at Wally World, and the pieces were tiny. no way that bag was 3lbs) I ended up stirring shredded cheese into the crock and just not adding any more to top whatever I was eating. it isn't even close to the same thing and I'm going to end up pitching what isn't eaten by Saturday.

I'm sure my brother would be happy with the hot salsa and the hot Rotel. I'm a work in progress.

"dinner" cost tonight was the bar tab at a charity event. I left a $10 tip on a $22 beverage tab, there were some chafing dishes.set up with food but I never made it that far over into the room. I'm sure I'll be hungry when I wake up for a change.

I'm part of a widows group of neighbors. We're taking a bus trip to Waco, Dallas and San Antonio in December, so we got together last night for dinner at Cracker Barrel and talked and giggled about our upcoming adventure. For me, I had the chicken & dumplings from the kids menu. Cost $4.99

Wave to me as you drive by, BG! Are you going to Magnolia in Waco? Yes, that's our first stop on the way down. We also get a tour of Jerry's World Cowboy Stadium on the way home.

Oh, enjoy your trip! If you can, eat at George's (on 18th) while you're in Waco. Best chicken fried steak I've ever had! You'll want to split the 1/2 order with someone. It's just too much food for one person to eat!

I pulled a couple boneless pork chops and chicken breasts from the freezer the other night, and I have a bunch of leftover rice from earlier this week. I bought some Asian veggies at Wegmans when I stopped on my way home, so I'm thinking some sort of Asian-seasoned chicken with pork fried rice. maybe I'll try my hand at chicken w/broccoli. who knows.
