Another sunny warm day... i tried to go for a walk at lunch today and 4 blocks in my feet and legs were aching. UGH! I am only at like 7k steps for the day. I realized tonight that my legs have felt achy and tired for a couple of weeks... my feet have hurt just a bit, but i thought it was because i was standing at my new sit/stand desk at work in my flats. Apparently this was all a precursor to my shoes dying LOL i rummaged through my closet and this was my last pair of gym shoes. The rain is rolling in right now, and it is supposed to be crappy weather all week. I guess that worked out I looked and I have 1 pair nikes barely worn. I can mail them but would take a few days. Alternately, I can give them to DH to bring and you could pick them up at his office - he's at Sears tower. No $ necessary, glad to be rid of them so I can make way for shoes that actually fit... I can pick up from your DH- sears isn't too far from my office. DH reminded me that I had an old pair of sneaker in the trunk of the car. I put them in there last summer when we went hiking, in case the shoes I had on got all muddy. They aren't my favorite shoes, I bought them for running, but didn't like them. But they worked out just fine for commuting this morning. So my need isn't quite so desperate now! lol Thanks a million- I totally owe you!

I dug out a hardly used rowing machine from the depths of the garage and brought it inside to use. I only used it about 20 minutes yesterday, but I'm feeling it a bit today. My legs are fine, but I can tell I've been neglecting working on my arms and shoulders.

The week has not started well. Work has been one issue after another. I have been eating way too much junk. Yesterday's steps were low for me. Discovered my youngest brother was let go from his contractor position on Friday. (One week after his wife put in her two week notice without having another job lined up) Time to get in some steps for today and hope for a better day tomorrow.
What I really want is a beer.

I had my annual blood work done last week. My cholesterol has gone up. Doctor put me on a Mediterranean diet. I would prefer to just go to the Mediterranean. Something had to give though; I eat way too much sugar.

I meant to come back to this thread once I was ready to start exercising. I guess I can now that I've been exercising for several weeks. I'm ready to go for broke now. No messing around with trying for a few pounds--I've decided to work my ass off literally! and get back to the weight I was in my late teens/early 20's. I know it's an audacious goal, but I really have no excuse right now. I have the time, and it's one of the few things I have control over in my life. I can stand to do 3 hours of exercise and other activity every day if I have to, for right now anyway. I feel like, if I don't do it now, I never will. I started off slowly, and have been working my way up to some real time and effort expended with exercising. I have felt absolutely awesome since I started with the kettlebell workout I've owned for years, but never really used before. I already feel so much stronger in my core and my posture is better with no conscious effort. The weight has not been coming off much, though, so I've added a yoga session and started to really watch what I put in my mouth. I'm not being all or nothing with the food, as there's no way I could sustain it long-term, but I look at crap food as taking me farther from my goal, so I don't really want it any more. So here's my numbers so far: 1/7/16 (months before starting) 169 #, 37 " waist (at belly button) 4/16/16 (after first week/3x exercising) 172.4#, 27.4 BMI, 36.4% body fat, 44.9% body water 4/21/16 171#, 27.2 BMI, 36.2% body fat, 45.0 % body water, 36.5" waist, 38" at belly button 4/28/16 170.8#, 27.1 BMI, 36.0 % body fat, 45.2% body water Intermediate goal: 154 #, 24.9 BMI, 34.0% body fat, 47% body water, 34" waist BIG goal: 127#, 20 BMI, 30 % body fat, 50% body water, 26" waist

I am FINALLY feeling better. 2 weeks of no working out and eating whatever sounded good because my appetite was nowhere to be found does NOT do a body good. However, I was able to work out yesterday and this morning, so I'm feeling better about life. Plus the sun was shining on my way in to work today, so that made me happy.
Hope everyone has a good week!

Weekly Check In
Did not hit step goal. Water intake doing well. We have a water challenge going on at work. Extra sleep did not really happen.
Keeping step goal at 80000. Keep working on water intake. Off to get in a few steps before leaving for work.

Ended up doing 4x a couple weeks ago but then only 2x last week because we took some time off work, though our "vacation" included a lot of activity like cleaning and yard work so there is that, oh and lots of ice cream too. Really people should not create flavors like espresso crunch (espresso ice cream with chocolate covered espresso beans) and expect me to have any self control. Anyway, goal of 4x this week again, with one already down.

I've gone mostly backwards, despite working out/yoga every day and adjusting my diet. But I finally made a little progress as of today, and there's some birthday cake in my near future , so I will post numbers as of today. Last week, I was up every day but 1, which was pretty much the same as the prior reading. 1/7/16 (months before starting) 169 #, 37 " waist (at belly button) 4/16/16 (after first week/3x exercising) 172.4#, 27.4 BMI, 36.4% body fat, 44.9% body water 4/21/16 171#, 27.2 BMI, 36.2% body fat, 45.0 % body water, 36.5" waist, 38" at belly button 4/28/16 170.8#, 27.1 BMI, 36.0 % body fat, 45.2% body water 5/4/16 170.8#, 27.1 BMI, 35.9% body fat, 45.2% body water 5/10/16 170.4#, 27.1 BMI, 35.8% body fat, 45.3% body water
(hey, it's super slow, but at least it's *some* progress!)
Intermediate goal: 154 #, 24.9 BMI, 34.0% body fat, 47% body water, 34" waist BIG goal: 127#, 20 BMI, 30 % body fat, 50% body water, 26" waist This week: downloaded Myfitnesspal app, increased water/protein intake, increased general activity level Since I'm finally going in the right direction, one or more of these must be doing the trick. I do think Myfitnesspal is allowing me too many calories with my exercise. I'm using conservative numbers on the calories burned with that already, so I'm just going to keep calories consumed down a little lower.

I'm up a couple of pounds. *Shrug*. This weekend was great - went for a walk with kids on sunday then went to the pool later. I increased the resistance on my deskbike and that has really put a dent in the amount of time I use it - because it's HARD. (How can 1 click be so different?) Anyway, goal is to get back up to an hour/day at the new resistance. Then add 1/day week of weights, which are just sitting in my basement.
I've been terrible at tracking my food, which is obv showing up on the scale. But my alcohol consumption overall has been v. low, so I'm surprised I haven't lost some more weight not drinking?
Oh well, onward and upward!

Oh nice. I'd be interested to know my numbers but I'm probably to cheap to go buy a whole new scale. I'm sort of annoyed now that I didn't take measurements because though I've gained a couple lbs, I think my shape has changed and I have more of a waist. I don't think I'll lose any of the weight but maybe I should measure from now to see if stuff keeps changing as I go.

Just ordered a treadmill for home. The nicer weather is bringing out all the crazies on the paths in the neighborhood and surrounding areas. So far this week alone I've been almost run over by an ATV, approached by a snarling dog and a separate pack of three unattended dogs, and had to give a wide berth to some guy shouting curses and beating up a flower bush with a stick. The stick guy was in a nicer neighborhood that I thought would be safer. Now I remember why I gave up jogging last year and why I prefer running on miserable weather days...all of the crazies stay home except me!

Weekly Check in-- Hit step goal. Did well on water. Not as much progress on weight.
Keeping step goal at 80000. Since there is a water challenge at work I need to keep up the water consumption. Have a great week everyone.

Even though it was chilly this weekend, I was able to get some good exercise in. It was sunny enough yesterday that I got a decent run in on the lakefront. I'm hoping the decent spring-like weather stays around for awhile.
My eating isn't so great lately, though. I know it's because I'm stressing myself out from this job search. Stress tends to make me not want to eat, which in theory is ok because I'm not stuffing my face with cake/ice cream/other sugary crap, but I'm not getting enough veggies in my diet and it's causing me to feel very low energy. Whatever, all should be resolved one way or another in a couple weeks. So until then, I'll enjoy my pants not being quite so tight!

I've been exercising and eating right - and gained 5 lbs. I hate that! I am hiding from the scale, I cleaned up my stress eating, added extra activity... and gained as well. Then I got stressed about it and started stress eating again. So i am just hiding from the scale for a couple of weeks. Get everything together in my head and not worry about the number. I can tell if things change by how my clothes fit anyway.

Still keeping on, it's been about 3 months now
DH has gone from a 24.4 BMI down to 21.9 I've gone from 20.2 to 20.7
I think I'm feeling more energy, or maybe it's just the sunlight, but we'll say it's the exercise.

Using the app seems to be helping. I actually don't have much trouble logging in my food intake. It's pretty amazing, knowing how I am (seem to have the attention span of a gnat sometimes).
1/7/16 (months before starting) 169 #, 37 " waist (at belly button) 4/16/16 (after first week/3x exercising) 172.4#, 27.4 BMI, 36.4% body fat, 44.9% body water 4/21/16 171#, 27.2 BMI, 36.2% body fat, 45.0 % body water, 36.5" waist, 38" at belly button 4/28/16 170.8#, 27.1 BMI, 36.0 % body fat, 45.2% body water 5/4/16 170.8#, 27.1 BMI, 35.9% body fat, 45.2% body water 5/11/16 170.2#, 27.0 BMI, 35.7% body fat, 45.4% body water (updated this from 5/10 #'s) 5/18/16 169.8#, 27.0 BMI, 35.6% body fat, 45.3% body water, 34" waist (maybe??), 37.5" at belly button
Intermediate goal: 154 #, 24.9 BMI, 34.0% body fat, 47% body water, 34" waist
BIG goal: 127#, 20 BMI, 30 % body fat, 50% body water, 26" waist
The progress hasn't been steady, so I decreased my calorie allowance on MFP to a goal of losing 1.5#'s per week. That seems to have done the trick--not that I expect to lose that much that fast, but just to keep on the downward trajectory most days at least.

I just started working out. I had kinda let myself go. I'm wondering what the best exercises are for someone with compromised lungs. I have been doing cycling and zumba. I'm also wanting to get my arms working. Any thoughts?

HAHAHAHA FRESH MEAT.
Just kidding, hi andi.
What do you mean compromised lungs? It sounds like weights may be a good idea for you. If yore trying to tone your arms and don't want to do too much hardcore cardio because you have issues with your lungs, weights is a good answer. Lots of women are intimidated by weights but they are a great help in both fitness and weight loss.

I need to get back to the gym. I can feel my leg muscles tightening up which caused all my knee issues before. Carving out the time is the problem. I'm trying to walk more and drink more water. I do plan on swimming Saturday.

Andi - swimming would also be great for your upper body of your lungs can handle being around the chlorine. I don't know what your lung issues are so might not work.
