I just started working out. I had kinda let myself go. I'm wondering what the best exercises are for someone with compromised lungs. I have been doing cycling and zumba. I'm also wanting to get my arms working. Any thoughts? I've been doing this workout 3x a week: www.amazon.com/Millers-Calorie-Burner-Workout-Kettlebells/dp/B001K3GO60/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463664149&sr=8-1&keywords=gin+miller%27s+kettlebellIt works your whole body at the same time, including arms, and since you're working hard, you do get a cardio workout, but not intense like jogging or anything. Since it's broken up into 3 different segments, you can start off slow, and then add on time as you build strength and endurance. I bought this dvd with a 5lb kettlebell a long time ago. At first I didn't like it, but it's become my favorite workout.

HAHAHAHA FRESH MEAT. Just kidding, hi andi. What do you mean compromised lungs? It sounds like weights may be a good idea for you. If yore trying to tone your arms and don't want to do too much hardcore cardio because you have issues with your lungs, weights is a good answer. Lots of women are intimidated by weights but they are a great help in both fitness and weight loss. I had a horrible case of pneumonia a few years ago. I really thought I was going to die. My lungs haven't been the same since. Tack 20+ years of smoking on and I'm lucky to be able to breathe some days. Luckily I'm cool most of the time, but I have my days and try not to overdo it.

Andi - swimming would also be great for your upper body of your lungs can handle being around the chlorine. I don't know what your lung issues are so might not work. Let's spare the world the sight of me in a bathing suit. Plus, I don't know how to swim.

andi - Try Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. You can find it for free on youtube and you can really tailor it down to a beginner level. It's only 20-25 mins but if you are really pushing yourself (eventually), IMO that's all you need.

I'm also wanting to get my arms working. Any thoughts? Good suggestions have been given already, particularly the kettlebell workout. Look at "You Are Your Own Gym". It's all body-weight exercises that look easy but are really hard. You can tailor it to your abilities and you can also circuit through some moves to keep your heart rate up without doing actual cardio.

I really love Level 3 i always quit during level 2 lol 3 is pretty awesome you should try it. You punches and jacks with weights, plus things like rotating pushups. It's essentially level 1 on crack.

Weekly check in Did not feel great yesterday so I went to bed before getting in my steps. Missed step goal for week. Have been doing well on water consumption. Snacked too much this weekend.
Goals for week 80000 steps. Keep up water consumption.

Just got back from zumba. I'm keeping up better than I was before. I love to dance and am pretty good at it, but you can't tell from watching me in the class. Once I learn the routines, I'll be better. But it's been fun.

I won my step challenge for the first time! No need to go into the fact that I checked at 10:30 last night and saw that someone had passed me, so I had to get in a couple thousand more steps before I could go to bed.

I just could not catch the person ahead of me. I was getting 15000 plus steps and losing ground.

This guy at work said that he went to the zoo with his GF and her fit bit said that she had 17K steps in when they left. We went to an amusement park last weekend and had to have walked a few miles that day at least.

I went to mine for the first time in years last year and I think I only ended up getting a couple thousand extra steps in.

Maybe he was wrong though. I don't know. You have to work it strategically to get everything in and plan on spending the day there. I'm half tempted to get a fit bit and go just to see how many steps I can get in.

I've got 30k at an amusement park before. If you are constantly walking around I could see. The day we spent in DC last spring I had 25k.

I guess if you spent an entire day walking around a huge zoo... it is possible. I've never spent more than a couple of hours walkind around a zoo. And mine isnt that huge.
I have gotten 25k+ several times by spending an entire day walking around the city... seattle and a few times here in chicago.

Starting to see real progress as of today, so I want to log that in today case it gets worse tomorrow. My measurements were varying by a couple clicks this morning, so going with the final, middle measurement. I slept for shit last night, so I'm not too surprised it was doing this--extra cortisol in my system, I think. On another note--chocolate cake seems to be diet food! 1/7/16 (months before starting) 169 #, 37 " waist (at belly button) 4/16/16 (after first week/3x exercising) 172.4#, 27.4 BMI, 36.4% body fat, 44.9% body water 4/21/16 171#, 27.2 BMI, 36.2% body fat, 45.0 % body water, 36.5" waist, 38" at belly button 4/28/16 170.8#, 27.1 BMI, 36.0 % body fat, 45.2% body water 5/4/16 170.8#, 27.1 BMI, 35.9% body fat, 45.2% body water 5/11/16 170.2#, 27.0 BMI, 35.7% body fat, 45.4% body water (updated this from 5/10 #'s) 5/18/16 169.8#, 27.0 BMI, 35.6% body fat, 45.3% body water, 34" waist (maybe??), 37.5" at belly button 5/24/16 168.4#, 26.8 BMI, 35.3% body fat, 45.5% body waterIntermediate goal: 154 #, 24.9 BMI, 34.0% body fat, 47% body water, 34" waist BIG goal: 127#, 20 BMI, 30 % body fat, 50% body water, 26" waist I skipped my day off from the big afternoon exercise this weekend (still always do yoga at night). Today, I may do an extra afternoon yoga session (focusing on flexibility) instead of my regular cardio/strength afternoon workout.

I'm the same at 20.7, DH has gone down to 21.6. We've been doing Level 2 and Level 3 of 30DS each twice a week for a couple weeks now. I think at least for me I need to change it up soon and find another work out to add to the mix. I am lazy though ...

No guarantee that I will keep this up, but I am really trying to at least get back in shape this summer, even if I don't lose weight (and while I try not to say it too much, gawd I need to lose weight!)
Water aerobics Saturday, 10k+ steps each day this weekend, the pool with laps on Monday )(this is when I knew I've lost all strength I once had) and got up and jumped on the trampoline this morning. If the neighbors are watching I'm sure its an amusing sight, but its fun, relaxing, and I can definitely feel that its working so I just don't care who sees.

Got up early and got in 1000 steps from jumping on the trampoline again this morning. That is a good workout, but very fun.

Got up early and got in 1000 steps from jumping on the trampoline again this morning. That is a good workout, but very fun. That sounds like a lot more fun than my workout!! I wish I had a trampoline I've hit or exceeded 10,000 every day this week so far. Today may be the day that I don't (if it rains at lunch and I don't get a walk in). I've been averaging over 80,000 steps per week, but not always hitting 10,000 a day, so I'm excited that I'm back to more regular exercise. I'm thinking I really need to live somewhere different, where it's nicer year round so I don't use the weather as an excuse to slack for 5 months!

So, since i got a job offer and put in my notice on tuesday, the stress eating at work has stopped. I had some treats this week for my bday on wednesday, i kept things in moderation and have been eating grilled chicken salads all week for lunch. Oh... and i have gained 3 pounds since monday, according to the scale. *giant eye roll*
Whatever... i plan to see the weight start coming back off now, since my work day stress eating is gone. Staying away from the scale again for a week or two.

I've hit 10k steps four days in a row now. Getting back into it. I also had to refill my water bottle yesterday at work. Baby steps in the right direction. I've cleaned up my eating as well. I've also been getting more sleep. Now that the 2 weeks plus of daily rain is gone I feel more motivated.

So I thought it would be good for me to get up an run this morning. It was so humid and the pollen was so overwhelming, I didn't think I'd make it home! LOL. I forgot how hard it is to run in the humid, soupy air, and especially when all the trees/flowers are blooming. By the time I got home I was wheezing pretty good. The A/C helped calm that down, as did my morning dose of allergy meds. This springtime weather sure is a mixed blessing!

Woo hoo, I'm finally going down instead of up after 4 months of working out. 20.4 BMI.
I think I'm going to try some Denise Austin next week. I remember one of my old kickboxing teachers liked her. Has anybody done one of her videos?
