I wanted to say a big THANK YOU for all of the people here who prayed and sent good thoughts for my husband. He passed away yesterday. Apparently the infection spread to his heart and his heart was leaking blood. The nurse said his passing was peaceful and that she was in the room with him when it happened.
Given the situation, his passing quickly was the best thing that everyone could have hoped for and we all take solace in the fact that he is no longer suffering and in pain.
It's really a weird feeling. My kids are also experiencing this weird on/off/on/off sadness thing. I keep telling them that it will pass in time and life will get to a new normal. I think they are struggling with the some of the same issues that I am. My DH was ill and required a lot of care/help for many years. It is in a way a relief that all of that has ended. But, it's sad because he is no longer here.
In a strange twist of fate, I also found out that one of my freelance client is willing to give me enough work to essentially equal more money than a full-time job would on the local economy. So, my financial issue has also been resolved for now. At some point, I will need a job with health insurance and all that, but it's nice to know that I will have a decent income during this odd transition time.
In an even stranger twist of fate, my father told me that they want to forgive the last 3 years of my mortgage payments! So apparently, I now have a mortgage free home to live in as well. I'm still processing that. It's an amazing gift and my husband would have been amazed at all of the love and support.

Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. The feeling of relief that this is over and he is no longer suffering, yet sadness that he is gone is normal. Our family went through this when my Dad died. (He had cancer) You will have these various emotions for awhile, but you are correct that you will eventually have a "new normal." You are a very strong person who has been through a lot. I am glad to hear that financially things are turining around on such a positive note. This will take a lot of stress off of you. Please do keep us posted on how you and your children are doing. We are here for you if you need us. God Bless you and your children. I am sending hugs your way.

I agree with aries7. I went through those same feelings when my g'pa passed & am going through them now with my mom's passing (today is her bday & she's been gone exactly 4 months). It's normal to feel the sense of relief - please don't feel guilty about it - I know I do feel guilty at times about it. **hugs**

MtShasta, I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm glad that your children are standing strong, but it will take a lot of time for everyone. I've never lost a spouse, but my husband lost his first wife amongst a time of losing the rest of his family, and it was very difficult for him. But, he's made a good recovery. I hope that your healing is swift. I'm also glad to hear about the kindness of your father on forgiving the mortgage, and that you have employment.

So sorry for your loss.
Glad to hear you've received unexpected blessings.
Before you complicate your life looking for a job that provides health insurance, check with your local chamber of commerce about insurance for the self employed. As a free lance writer, you should qualify.

My deepest condolences for your loss. You seem like an incredibly strong individual, but take your time and go through the mourning process before making any major financial decisions. I wish the best to you and your family.

So sorry for your loss. I'm glad to see you surrounded by generous, carring people.
One note: It's not easy to accept help. Admit that, know that and hopefully it will get you over the hump to accept the help that is freely and generously given.
