from the liveblogging at www.scotusblog.com/5-4 upholding same sex marriage and requiring states to recognize ss marriages performed in a different state. Sounds like there are 2 different dissents from the 4 justices.

Also, it looks like there's going to be 1 more decision today and the rest will come on Monday.

Thanks for the link Nancy. The liveblog and the link to the decision are HORRIBLE for trying to copy and paste.

Everyone be careful out there. What with the SCOTUS decision yesterday regarding the ACA and today, gay marriage, there are heads exploding everywhere. Good day to wear a biohaz suit for the next few days.

Shit, I hope I don't get divorce, since gay marriage is a thread to traditional marriage.

That's too bad.
Now we'll see the slow but sure erosion of religious liberty.

So all gay marriages ought to be on June 26th! My DIL has a gay uncle in Georgia - does this ruling mean he can legally get married there, even if Georgia doesn't allow it? Can he get married in NYC and come back home to Georgia and still be married?

Yep, he can legally get married in any of the 50 STates (and presumably DC, not sure about terrorities) and if he moves to a different state, he's still married.

That's too bad. Now we'll see the slow but sure erosion of religious liberty. How so and in what way? Justice Roberts predicted cases on the horizon. The example he used was a religious college only offering married housing to opposite sex couples. Given the propensity for the SCOTUS to be "activist judges" instead of actually upholding the law, I wouldn't put it past them to start ruling against religious instituatiins in cases like that.

Just because they are legal doesn't mean individual religions have to recognize them or allow them in their houses of worship. Pork is for sale everyplace but no one is forcing Jews or Muslims to eat it. Birth control is available everywhere but no one is forcing any Catholic men to put a lid on it.
