My dating has slowed down a bit in the last couple of months - partly because I hadn't been finding anyone interesting, and partly because people are flaky and just downright idiotic. I have been trying to keep busy with work, DS, and learning how to have fun by myself on my "off" days. I fell off the workout wagon a little but I am getting back into the swing of things. My problem is that I'm eating more and I'm thinking about eating more. I've always loved food (used to be overweight as a kid & my family struggles with weight issues) but I finally got a handle on eating well and exercising around the age of 25-26. I like a lot of vegetables and fruits. But lately all I want to do is eat junk food, baked goods, and ice cream while binge watching Netflix. One night I actually ate a scoop and a half of ice cream while watching Scandal - at 10:30pm! I almost NEVER eat past 8. And most of the time I'm not hungry! Sunday I ate so much at lunch that I had a bad stomach ache and didn't eat for the rest of the day. No amount of working out is going to counteract all this, and I'm already starting to get a little belly. Any ideas before I need to start being wheeled around?

That's all I got because I have weak will power.

I have the same issue. I'm completely addicted to carbs. It's really bad.

Have you had a physical lately? Some blood work done? Could be a hormonal thing. Please don't think I'm being too personal and I'm not asking you to answer me, but have you considered depression? You've been through some tough times. It sure wouldn't be surprising. When I'm feeling low, I eat.
Or maybe you just like ice cream (she says as she runs to the fridge for some chocolate fudge brownie)!

Possible but I am not a stress/emotional eater... At least not in the common sense. I am a recovering boredom eater, also pretty orally fixated - a lot of my waking time is spent talking, eating, drinking, or chewing gum.

I've been thinking of trying to lose a bit of weight myself.
But one thing that really helped me was to stop drinking soda.
I lost about 8 pounds just by not drinking diet soda anymore. And I've found I don't really miss it.

I am a recovering boredom eater, also pretty orally fixated - a lot of my waking time is spent talking, eating, drinking, or chewing gum. Oh dear. You know where this is going to go, right? I can't stand chewing gum. It makes my jaws hurt. But I am a drinker...always something....water, Diet Pepsi, coffee. Can't not have something by me.

Get yourself one of those big Starbucks iced drink tumblers. Keep it filled with ice & water in the evenings and take a swig whenever you are restless. Would reading a book keep your hands busier than watching TV. If that doesn't work, then you are going to have to turn into an old lady and start doing crochet or knitting or needlepoint. Idle hands are the devil's workshop OnLine dating? Dunno, around here another lady went missing & so far they seem to be implicating the internet boyfriend. Found the car a while back, now found the body. Their first date & he killed her? Like how are these people out there just roaming around? No arrest yet so they don't know for sure.

I only do one "craft" right now and it's not portable and it makes a mess (making scented moisturizers). I may have to take up sketching again.

I am not a stress/emotional eater either but I recently realized I don't know how to watch TV without eating. I *think* it started bc of the kids and that I could only eat in peace when they were sleeping and not either bugging me or taking my food. And now I will eat something at 10pm even if I had dinner before. I just went shopping for a bathing suit for the first time since I had kids and even that horrible picture didn't do it - I just had some chicken salad and pears about 20 min ago! I think the only solution is to stop! I am starting that tomorrow

Recently instituted in this household: cut cucumber, carrots, and cauliflower in the fridge. If eating outside of mealtimes, a serving of this must be eaten...and then if you're still hungry we can talk about a fun snack. My husband and I are both overweight, although otherwise healthy. Last time I did this I lost 10 lbs...my mistake was stopping. Husband is on board this time. Also a good way to get more veggies in. My son is not on board with this, although he will eat the cucumber. He still wants his strawberries and cherries.

I live alone and only keep a few foods in the house so when I am hungry I don't have much choice. I cheat when I visit people but they see how much I eat so I am reasonable. At home I only eat oatmeal, frozen blueberries, almond milk, beans, veggies, popcorn and almonds. So if I wanted a snack now I can have popcorn or almonds or cook a veggie or have some soup that is bean and veggie or cereal or frozen blueberries. I have that stuff so much it isn't tempting so I only eat when hungry or take some almonds away from the container to eat so limited to what fits in my hand. I have lost some weight this year, stopped losing and just started again. I don't eat much carbs or sugar or fat to control blood pressure, ankle swelling and diabetes not just to lose weight.

Be kind to yourself right now. You have been through a lot.
It's a good thing you've recognized that there is an issue and it could get worse. Believe me it is a lot easier to stop the problem now than it will be to gain another 20 then have to get back down to where you are.
Do you belong to a gym? Maybe you could start working out in your off time. A good way to meet men (even if it is just for casual relationships) and you can watch tv while working out. You can even find gyms that have daycare at no cost or "family rooms" to work out in so your son can go with you.

I have black card for $19.99/month because I travel a lot but there is a cheaper one. I belong to Experience Fitness, at the $10 a month level. I've got the kids in their kid care thing and it's $10 a month for each kid. There's an annual fee, maybe $40 each? I went back last night for the first time in months and the guy from the kid club recognized us. I'm still not sure if that's good or bad! As for the eating, I'm about to go back to the rule of "don't have it in the house" because then I can't eat it. I'm not sure if DH is going to buy in on it or not.
