I recently finished listening to Murder on Cold Street, the latest Lady Sherlock book, a series I like a lot. I'm re-listening to Anne of Green Gables at the moment.

DD8 and I are reading The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry. I've never read it before, but it's right up our alley - quirky and weird. We have about 3 chapters to go, and I have no idea how it might end.
Not able to concentrate on much reading for myself. I have a couple of books that I've barely started but just find myself staring.

Ill check that out for my dd azucena. We're doing lap 2 of the Ramona books and I'm so tired of them. Ds and I are reading Divergent. It's opened up fun conversations about values.

Neither of my girls got into Ramona - that was my favorite series when I was 9.
DD8 and I did read the Fudge trilogy. Again, we enjoy funny books.
The Willoughbys is really pushing her vocabulary, but the story itself is keeping her engaged. She needed something with longer words to keep expanding.
On her own, she's reading Last Kids on Earth, Ratsos, and Real Pigeons - all series.
We're waiting for book 3 of Hamster Princess to be in our library queue. The princess really wants to be a knight and they spin off of different fairy tales - the last one was Ratpunzel LOL.

Almost to a one the kids did not love the books I loved as a kid/young adult. We found new things we liked together or they found their own favorites.
Only exception being Vonnegut’s Bluebeard in High School which they both, independently, told their evaluator was their favorite book that year.

I remember loving the Phantom Tollbooth, but even I didn't like it much when I tried to read it with ds. Both kids liked the babysitters club books which I hated.
I liked Fudge, and they both loved those series. I remember liking Ramona, but didn't remember how awful she is. I think its the combination of her and the Junie B. Jones books that makes my eye twitch.
Ds and I's list of books to read is long. He and I like a lot of the same books now and I hope he will read with me long enough to get through them. I am trying to make sure we have more diverse characters than I've typically read and I'm embarressed to say its a challenge. We both liked Slay. More adult language and topics than we've read previously, but its not like he didn't know those words.

Have you looked into Rick Riordan presents? He and Disney have a set up where they help minority authors publish books that are similar in theme/structure to the Percy Jackson novels. In an interview Riordan said he obviously cannot be a master of all religion/mythology out there so this gives an opportunity for others to share their culture/voices. So far my favorite series is Aru Shah which is Hindu mythology. A close second is Tristan Strong. Storm Runner was pretty good. I didn't care for Dragon Pearl. Race to the Sun was a good introduction for me into Native American culture and I am hoping there will at least be a second book. I have not read Sal and Gabi. rickriordan.com/rick-riordan-presents/

Mythology and magic aren't his thing so those haven't grabbed him. I tried.

I am rereading Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts. I liked it so much when I read it at the library I went ahead and bought a copy.

I just started the Autobiography of Eleanor Roosevelt. I am doing a biography/autobiography binge. Just finished Michelle Obama’s “Becoming.” Others sitting on the bookshelf waiting for me to read: Malala, Virginia Woolf, Sandra Day O’Connor, RBG, Maya Angelou, Shirley Chisolm, and Obama’s “A Promised Land”. Also Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”. I also have a biography of George Washington in Kindle. These should keep me out of trouble for awhile.

I just finished "evicted" as I thought it was fitting with the COVID and job issues in our country. It was very good but I had to read the footnotes in line with the book. Otherwise, it didn't make sense.

I just started reading Call YourDaughter Home, by Deb Spera. I got it on my Kindle from the library, and for some reason I thought it was by Delia Owens, author if Where the Crawdads Sing. Maybe it said it was similar, and I read it wrong. But so far I like it!

I was disappointed though because I actually got the Rachael McAdams version even though I already owned a version because I like her so much, but she isn't a great reader I reverted to my older edition.

this week I finished a Nicholas Sparks book "Every Breath". I liked it. I'm about to start "The Librarian of Auschwitz" this afternoon. I finished Nicholas Sparks "Every Breath". Breath has been my mantra. I enjoyed the story line and characters. Sad in places but a sweet love story.

Dd8 and I are partway thru Life of Ty book 1. It reminds me of a boy version of Ramona. It's a little step down in level of what we have been reading, but we are both enjoying it.

My last book Love Letters by Kate Clayborn. I'd like to have the romance except for one section. Everything turns out in the end.

I've not been reading recently, which is usually a sign that I'm not very contended in my life. I finally watched Bridgerton on Netflix and decided to try the first book. I read about 100 pages last night! Turns out what I needed to re-start reading was first watching a beautiful, and often naked, Duke of Hastings . I'm rather annoyed that in the book, the Duke is white. I will continue to visualize him as the Netflix version!

I haven't been reading as much as usual either. Discontented for sure.

I'm also a Jane Austen fan and have been reading a chapter a day of Persuasion for an online book group. When I watched Bridgerton and the "I burn for you" scene on their wedding night made me think instantly of Captain Wentworth's love letter to Anne Elliott. I do wonder if that was deliberate on the part of the author/screenwriter (not sure if it's in the book). Of course, I could just be seeing patterns that don't actually exist!

The Bridgerton books are basic romance fare. Not nearly as detailed as the Netflix series which has been fleshed out nicely. I did find the books a nice fluff for the days before the inauguration when i was not capable of anything more. I read 2-7 (didn't read one) from the 16th - 20th, and then read the last one after. It was probably my least favorite, although maybe also I was done with it by then.

I started reading Being Mortal by Atul Gawande last night. I got it to help me deal with everything on both mom, dad and K...I actually believe it will help me for me in the future.

I started The Prague Sonata the other night. The first bit didn’t catch my interest, but when I continued reading it last night I really got involved and read until I started dropping my Kindle. Now hooked.

Other than the casting, I don't think they departed too much from the books. I am listening to Romancing Mister Bridgerton - I went out to the library to find something to listen to on my Commute, and they had just added most if not all of the series as Audio Books. You can only keep them for 7 days, so I just have the one. I am currently reading Guilty as Sin (Sinful, Montana series by Rosalin James) I re-started my Kindle Unlimited, and this is a new author for me. I am enjoying it very much. Cheesy: I remember reading the autobiography of Eleanor Roosevelt. and I listened to Michelle Obama’s “Becoming" when it came out. I enjoyed both. I have a book about RBG on my bookshelf, and I have never read it...I was thinking I should look for an audio version to listen to in the car.

I am reading Ready Player Two (Ernest Cline) and listening to Anxious People (Fredrik Backman).
I wish Backman would stop giving me all the feels in his books. Just kidding, he is wonderful, and I love how he so eloquently states exactly how I feel in life.

I think it’s my turn to listen to Ready Player 2 next. I share my account and know my BIL is finished and think my sister is too now.
