Reading Obama's 700 page autobiography published in 8/2020. I think it's volume one of a two volume set. I'm usually not into non-fiction much less political non-fiction, but I wanted to challenge myself. I'm already 350 pages in a few days. So many thoughts - it's quite interesting to read about the IL races since I was just out of college there at the time - the financial crisis stuff is crazy in hindsight. His willingness to involve so many experts and listen to them really did save the US from a world of hurt. He has a brief discussion of whether he did the right thing because in his view it likely increased the wealth disparity. - man, he is smart. I'm so engaged in his writing. And some of his insights about how the political climate in his time directly led up to Trump and the virus debacle are right on
DD8 and I finished Ty Penguin problems. I think it was book one in a series, but we agreed it was just okay.
Tonight, we start Hamster Princess Book 5 Whiskerella. She confessed to sneak-reading the first chapter while I finished work yesterday, but said she would read it again.

I just finished Caste - took me almost 3 weeks, which is rare, but there was a lot to think about. I don't agree on everything, but the general premise is great.

I finished Ready Player Two this weekend. I give it a solid 'meh.' I like the first one, but this one goes deeeeeeeeeep into Nerdville - I'm pretty geeky about some things, but this went so deep that it just lost me. Like the author just wanted to show off all his useless knowledge on a few subjects, which I won't discuss for those that haven't read the book yet.
Have about 2 hours of listening left for Anxious People.
Now to figure out what to read next.

I haven't really gotten into White Too Long. academic stuff with a lot of statistics tend to make my eyes glaze over when I have nothing else to concentrate. I'll give it another shot once the current work fire dies down. I'm still working my way through the Sunday paper, I'm in the Arts section rn. I think I need to find a copy of this, it sounds fantastic. www.bostonglobe.com/2021/02/25/arts/crime-damages-lowering-days/

It did take me a long time to finish.
I read Finding God in the Waves this week. Otherwise nothing much.

Reading The Midnight Library. It's pretty good though fairly simple in plot and a bit formulaic.
But that's apparently what I needed because I'm zipping through it at my normal speed.
With everything that has gone on in the last two months I've found it hard to read. The words get scrambled on the page because my brain can't focus enough.
Which creates more anxiety because a coping mechanism got cut off.
I checked out two other books that promise to be easy reading.
I'm also about half way through Cooking for Picasso which I fell out of and haven't picked back up yet.
Then a third of the way through Jim Henson's biography which I really enjoy but get sad he's gone so I'm on a break.
I went through a long state of reading intersectional material but got burned out. I still have A bridge called my back I need to read.

Still reading The Prague Sonata, I should finish it tonight. A good 50+% of the book was setting up the plot. The book definitely needed some better editing.

I finished Leave The World Behind by Rumaan Alam. It started slow but did get intriguing. The question unanswered was what caused the noise. And a couple of other loose ends. I started The Loyal Heart by Shelley Shepard Gray. It's the audio book.

I am not sure about "Leave The World Behind by Rumaan Alam". I may try to go back to it.

Looking for 2-3 books to read on vacation in a couple of weeks. Light, easy reading, maybe funny. Suggestions?

I love Bricking It by Nick Spalding when I need light lol funny, but I've only listened to the audio so I'm not sure how it reads? But if you ever have to drive 8-9 hours straight through it will get you there. I will say I've tried a couple others of his and didn't love them, but that one, lol, every time.

Have you read Christopher Moore? Maybe we should start out with asking what kind of things you think are funny? Like what are some funny books, or light books, you have read in the past that you have liked?

Library doesn't have bricking it.
Christopher Moore brings up a lot of titles and several authors.
Light, beach reading like Elin Hildebrand and mary kay andrews.
I can't even come up with the last funny book I read for myself. Just looking for light-hearted, clean stuff. I don't like to read a bunch of cursing or adult scenes.

The Friend Zone and the Happy Ever After Playlist- both by Abby Jimenez. They are light, romantic-y books. I thought Friend Zone was a bit repetitive but if you want easy, slightly steamy reading, they are decent.

Light and funny -- I have been re-reading RJ Blain's novel's -- the best one for you right now would possibility be Huntress ( some cursing ) -- She also writes as Susan Copperfield. Huntress is part of her Royal States Series and Bernadette Franklin with several holiday books that are good "floof" Bat out of Hell, The Run Around, Ginger Snapped, Shammed and Claustrophobic. You can also try Suzanne Enoch's Samantha Jellicoe series that starts with Flirting with Danger. She's a thief and he's a very wealthy British aristocrat. Really fun and they make me smile. If you want to try a mystery series that has made my cry laughing than Jana DeLeon's Miss Fortune Series is for you -- the first book is Louisiana Longshot.

I had already assumed it wasn’t going to be nearly as enjoyable as the first one. Hmmmmm.

Reading Hot House Flower and the Nine Plants of Desire. I checked it out because I liked the cover. It's pretty good. Standard bitchy not likeable female lead finding out that she had the strength to live her own life all along. Not a lot of thinking required which is what I want right now.

Almost finished audio book The Loyal Heart by Shelly Shepard Gray.

Made it thru Obama's discussion of ACA about 450 pages in. Very interesting, and I just keep thinking man that man is smart.

Finished "Becoming" last week. Glad I read them in that order as her book gave a great background to the relationship.

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed Becoming and admire Michelle as well.
I'm learning so much about international politics too. He included so much detail, back story, and insights.

I read the latest JD Robb and it was decent. I really believe that she should take a break and not have so many irons in the fire with all the series, and one offs she does in a year -- I believe it's at least 4 and things just get recycled and I am really thinking about not reading her as often. I enjoy her books but they (ideas/situations) get repeated through several different versions.
I am going to be re-reading Tamora Pierce's Tortall books again and I am looking forward to the newest Valdimer book coming soon out by Mercedes Lackey.

I just got done reading this Three Mothers: How the Mothers of Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X and James Baldwin Shaped a Nation. It was really interesting and sad how much tragedy touched the lives of Malcom X and King. Also learned about the racist and socieconomic motivations about the development and sale of birth control. There appears to be absolutely nothing in this country that doesn't have those undertones. Did make me go cross eyed when I thought about how modern conservatives want to take it all away, yet it was designed with the idea in mind to control all those icky people they don't want breeding so you'd think they would promote the heck out of it instead.

That sounds like an interesting premise, through the mother’s... is it yours or did you borrow it because I could swap you something for it...
