Just like either Hepburn sister - he'd look good in a paper bag. Or no bag at all.
But that doesn't mean his clothes are timeless or classic. He'd have to stand up and turn around for us to know that. Oh, and bend over. And maybe flex a few times. Or just stand there. Or maybe lean on something. And uh, just stand there a little more... What was I talking about? I think he needs to grab my ass before I can be sure.
p.s. the Hepburns weren't sisters.
They're not?? What are they then? Might as well learn something today.

Hey, I look fantastic in my light wash, high waisted, tapered leg jeans with pleats, TYVM. Timeless and classic. They're probably hanging right next to your Little Black Dress/Funeral frock, right?
This whole thread is reminding me a little of the Loony psycho doc thread. Just like alcoholics, people who wear weird stuff are unable to self-diagnose and will defend to the death the appropriateness of their kit, no matter what the evidence shows.
You've been snooping in my closet?

I shop according to my personal taste coming into fashion. So generally pretty basic, black, neutrals, non-crew neck shirts, dark wash jeans. Every few years though, things I adore come into style and I will pounce. I don't care how trendy or brief, when sparkly, floral, lacy, metallic or vibrant blues are in style I will wear them!

It's easy to imagine some turtlenecks as timeless. Jeans, though? No way. Jeans are notorious for changing styles. From the fit, length, waist, pockets and even stitching colors/amounts, jeans change hugely and dated jeans very obvious.
Unless you're wearing Mom Jeans. Then, um, carry on.

Have you seen his red suit? I will try and find it, unless it is posted further in the thread. I am only on page 2 and catching up. eta: can't find the red suit, but here is purple. Its not as good as the red suit though.

Sounds like a red-hatter. Do they have those clubs any more? Yes, but they wear red hats and purple clothes. I was a red hat lady. Had some really cute clothes and accessories. Unfortunately, I was a failure at that club. I was NOT going to be the designated driver for a bunch of 80 & 90 y/o women. Darn women were so cheap they wouldn't even offer to help pay my gas costs. I could only imagine what would have happened if I'd had an accident with a bunch of old biddies in the car. There wouldn't have been enough money to pay off the claims.
That was when I dropped out.

Was Jackie Kennedy a fashion innovator? I know she was a trend setter, but did she wear stuff no one else was wearing much of or did she just dress really well, but nothing other well dressed women of the time might be wearing. I know that many people think her husband is the reason men's hats started to go out of style. On the guys side of things Steve McQueen is a big fashion icon. I think I might could pull of this look. I think I am about the same size. He is wearing Persol sunglasses, I think. I am not sure of the color of the clothes as it is a black and white picture. I have some off white jeans. Maybe white Chuck Taylors for the shoes. I am not sure what color the shirt is, maybe light blue or I don't know.

Does anyone who is out of high school even care about that stuff? "Oh, look at Kathy! The stitching on her jeans is so passé. We can't be seen with her!"

He could be wearing various shades of pink , but, I bet he's wearing light khaki colored chinos with a pink or pale blue shirt I suspect alot of thought was put into the lighting and the colors of stuff in that photo - so they'd look good in Black and White and not necessarily in color.

Well, judging from the posts on this thread who are made by people who claim to be older than high school age, people do care about how their clothes look, how other people's clothes look and how the clothes fit in with the setting and whether they're appropriate to the situation. Unless you were joking, you commented on how gauche a baseball hat was... Not really much different than thinking outdated jeans look dorky.

@hickle Do you happen to follow Fashion Grandpas on instagram? Hi, I just googled it. I will start looking at it. I go to www.thesartorialist.com/ and to reddit's www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/ , but not many other places. It kind of bothers me to think that I should be looking at grandpa fashion . I am 53 and last year I lost about 25 pounds, from 205 to low 180's/high 170's and ended up buying a lot of new clothes. I bought a lot of chinos and button up shirts. I really have no place to wear them though. I feel really comfortable in sneakers, jeans and t-shirt. Fit is the key to good looking clothes. I used to buy over size stuff, extra large , now I buy medium for the most part.

Now that you know about how to make clothes look good, maybe you can put some on your avatar. Right now, your pic looks like a naked guy peering in a window. He needs an appropriately fitted shirt.

How is your opinion that a baseball cap is gauche and you hate the look any different/better than another's opinion that jeans change style quickly and look dated after 10 years? Just like you, I never told anyone not to wear their old jeans, only pointed out that IMHO jeans change style quickly.
The point is that they're both judgments. Right or wrong, they're opinions and judgments about another's fashion choice. I don't really have a dog in this fight, I don't wear baseball hats and only own a couple of pairs of jeans which get worn once or twice a year .

Did the original Hepburn say Hepburn was classic, or that the Classic Hepburn was a favored style... not the same things...

I think that's the ticket. A person should, IMO, wear what they enjoy wearing. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and attractive. I guess I just don't understand dressing for the approval of other people. Of course, one should dress appropriately for whatever's going on, but that's about the extent of any fashion edicts I'd want to place on another.

I think I remember you saying you wore a pantsuit to your wedding, or am I thinking of someone else. You seem to me, from reading your posts, to be someone who thinks for herself. I was interested in how that transferred to clothing.

I love the sartorialist as well. I really appreciate it when people can find beauty in different lines, cuts, colors, etc. Congrats on the weight loss! I lost a bit over 30 in 2012 and haven't looked back. Clothing is fun again!

I'm not seeing the problem with baseball caps in the appropriate situation. I wear them on the jet ski and out on the boat. Keeps my hair out of my face and keeps my nose from burning.
I don't wear them at work.

Son went through a fedora phase. Now he wears a hat full of pins. Daughter has been wearing a baseball hat backwards or a beanie... her style is definitely unique.
