Hepburn & Classic.....I love the look too. Is that your style BG, classic? I am a jeans and t-shirt type, though I really like looking at stylishly dressed people. For women I think a mix between business casual with some flair and sneakers is a cool look. I am not sure why I like the sneakers so much, but I do. For guys I like stuff that fits well and understated. I am uncomfortable in fancy clothes, much beyond chinos and a button up. I like this guy, but no way could I pull it off and feel comfortable. here is a woman I think looks really attractive because of clothes, though that is probably not very business.

Sorry, it's not that the clothes are not attractive, but they do remind me of the 80's Hope I didn't offend

That doesn't look so much "Yuppie" as it does 2005-2010.
Yuppies were more the mid 1980's.

Yes - I think it's the "no socks" look revived from the 80's.
And since he's holding a smart-phone, it's obviously a recent pic.

Oh yes, throw in some pastels, and you've got a straight-up Miama Vice look. (He's got a European look to him though.)

My style is between Jackie Kennedy and casual elegance. I don't own jeans or any type of sneakers/tennis shoes, and I don't wear or own T-Shirts.

I was raised in a large city. She appears to have that "Uptown" look. Trendy. And, unlike a lot of the 20-somethings, at least she's covered.
I like fashion casual!

No jeans, no tshirts, no sneakers, I'm in trouble. I have classic clothes too and tonight I wore a classic outfit. But I live in stuff like the above. I'm the same. Most of the time, it's jeans and T-shirts. That's how I'm most comfortable for hanging around the house or making a grocery run. If I'm actually going to the mall, or shopping in several places, or out for a meal - it's classics. Not into the trendy stuff.

What can I say, I am my Mothers daughter. I was raised by parents who had cocktails before dinner and we ate dinner each night in the dining room. Proper dress was required, and at all times one must be dressed appropriately.
I was somewhat dismayed when I had to call the paramedics a couple of weeks ago for my DH. It was 5AM and I was dressed in a white fluffy robe and pink slippers. My Mother would have gotten dressed before the first responders arrived.

While I'm the first to admit I'm not a fashion maven at all, clothes definitely do go out of style. Even the "classics". And other clothes, even if they're a current style, aren't flattering on everybody.
Take the Hepburn pic, for example. She is stunningly gorgeous. No qualifiers, she just is. And at first glance, you might be tempted to think that her clothes are "timeless classics", but really there are many things about them that would be very unflattering on anybody else plus would look very dated if worn today. She has a gorgeous, elegant look because her simple lines create a tall, thin look that highlights the angular beauty of her face, not because the clothes themselves are classic or in any way special or elegant. The pants are a good length that is usually in style, but wider legs, high waist, cuffs and pleats come in and out of style. There are many years in which the pants - especially the prominent pleating on the front and high waist - would be decidedly out of style and look dated, even though on her in that picture they are gorgeous. The blouse is simple enough to probably skate under the style radar in most times, but even that has a very high neckline that hasn't been popular for years. Not that either blouse or pants are unattractive, but they're beautiful in this picture because of the total effect (a large part of which comes from the women wearing them), not because they're timeless.
Also, the reason Hepburn's clothes are so appealing have a lot to do with the fact that she's thin and gorgeous - no matter what she wears. She was smart to wear simple clothing that didn't compete with her natural beauty, but that doesn't mean the same clothes or styles would look good on everybody. Quite the opposite. If you're not a natural thin, angular beauty, you might look better in clothes with more structure or with details that serve to highlight your best features and downplay features you want to minimize.

My DD and I dress better then most people anymore. I don't really go anywhere without makeup unless I'm working in the garden or lawn in the summer and have to run and get something. Or run up to the diner and get lunch and have been working outside, but otherwise I don't. And that was my mom, she always looked nice.
My MIL looks awful, for awhile if we took her, she would clean up and look nice but anymore she looks awful. Her sister takes better care of herself but neither do much with their hair and no makeup.
That's not nor will it ever be me unless I get to the point I'm to ill to do it anymore. I'm not sure what MIL has going on, so no idea what her issue is, but everybody has different ideas of what's beautiful and what looks best.
Some people think a person has to wear makeup and have hair coiffed in a certain way to look beautiful. Others think a person who's fit looks great with a natural style, not needing makeup or dyed hair.

I wish I had someone who served as a personal shopper and did my hair. A lady's maid I guess . I always describe my hair as "nice for fancy events". It's curly and manageably frizzy. I can pretty much tell you the % of humidity in the air by looking at my hair. It can look nice but it takes a lot of work. So in the warm weather months it's constantly worn up, I just don't have the energy to spend an hour every morning doing my hair. As for clothes, I hate shopping. So when I find something I like, I buy it in a lot of different colors and move on. So I tend to have the uniform look but it keeps up with the times.

I don't get why it's now fashionable to dress like a well-off vagrant. The big boxy shirt, scarf, and skinny jeans/leggings look does not work for most women, but yet that is 90% of what they're pushing for my age group and younger.
I like classic, flattering clothing with some interesting or trendy bits thrown in.
