Really? People die every day. Even in Canada.

This has been being discussed in the media around here. Maybe it's because the incident happened in a neighboring state.

I think that the alleged perpetrator turned himself in so quickly that the story didn't have much time to grow. The shootings occurred yesterday around 5 PM and the suspect turned himself in later that night. I can't get a bead on when exactly he turned himself in but it appears to have been within hours.
There was no whodunnit angle to use. The identity of the shooter appears to have been known immediately. There was no "where is he angle?" to use. The suspect was already in custody.
The "why?" part of the story will probably continue to grow.

Just another nut with a gun- probably wouldn't make the national news if the victims weren't Muslim. Sad.

From reading some of the comments found on the original article.., and there have been many believe me..there is a good chance that their religion played a part in the action taken against them...who the perp is, posts on social media forums etc...more will come out..If any at all are true I would hope for the ultimate penalty personally...even if it took 15/20 years...usually those people are separated in confinement , 23 out of 24 hours or so just look at bare walls...
In looking at the photos of victims shown...just very good looking , happy looking young adults just starting out on their young careers, lives...children soon to come I am sure ..one already on a professional career path, two others just ready to start..so two like to wear a head covering...big deal.
Over a parking spot..like to hear more about that. I am in a condo living arrangement..many autos here..each unit has at least one assigned spot and if second vehicle , one picks a non assigned guest spot...Usually after a time that spot belongs , unofficially to you, though with guests , new arrivals sometimes it is taken..At times a bit of annoyance if one comes home late and finds it is taken...If often done one would pick a different spot or possible have a talk with one who is taking the "unofficial your own in your mind spot" but never such a result contemplated...
Also in my mind..why such a quick surrender by perp so soon after the deed..As if he knew what he was doing , little thought of regret and now willing to suffer the consequences , martre to the end in his own mind.. little concerns of the pain and suffering he inflicted on family let alone the victims them selves ..for what..

Yes, but not with as much emphasis and gusto. Killing one person, let alone three, over a parking spot is a little bit unusual, no? Unusual reasons for killing someone/multiple people always gets more attention.

This story has more than one "hook", I'd say. There were multiple victims. The victims were Muslim. The killings took place on a University campus (or very nearby - not sure). The guy killed three people and then turned himself in. The killings were over a parking space. Those are some pretty juicy tidbits for our media.

Have you been reading the comments? Who, me? Nah. I don't read comments on news stories. I'm interested in the news, not in the opinion of every idiot with a computer.

It will be especially interesting to follow this story in light of the fact that thanks to Rush, the concept that there is a "narrative" is out there now having been acknowledged, and it is being discussed. The coverage of these kinds of stories is always intriguing because this certainly does NOT fit the narrative. There's nowhere in the narrative to pigeon-hole this one. What's worse (for the purveyors of the narrative) is that it's the exact OPPOSITE of the narrative. If we had more atheists, according to the narrative, we could all light candles and sing along to John Lennon's "Imagine" and world peace would break out. According to the narrative, it's those angry white men clinging to their guns and their Bibles that do this stuff-- left wingers don't execute people with firearms, they don't even OWN firearms. According to the narrative. To familiarize yourself with the concept of the narrative, I invite you to read: www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2015/02/10/the_news_narrative_is_everywhereYou will get more out of this discussion if you know what you're talking about if and when you decide to respond to this post.

Well at least the gunman didn't blast the three with a boat horn before he murdered them. The shooter was quite the gun rights advocate.

Too bad nobody with a carry permit was around to save these folks- oh wait, the shooter had one So forgetting about whatever the hell Rush is yammering about- what is the take here? Was atheism to blame? Politics? Science? Sounds to me like 'they' are rushing to blame 'the left'- so I guess people are not responsible for their actions. I think the only 'narrative' out there is in Rush's head.

The article I read about him talked about his anti religious stance and being an avowed atheist. Some of his quotes were hard to decipher if it was about a particular religion.
He was not going to take anything from any religion that did not acknowledge his rights to being an atheist and felt he could dish out acceptable punishment for anyone disliking his views. Definitly not a stable person, but darn, if it does not feel to be more than that.

OK Paul , thanks for the invite and I did..read the Limbough blurb..first a skim and then a bit deeper...I guess I am a bit dense..I admit it but don't follow your feeling that one needs to read it to get more out of this discussion...concept of the narrative....Possible you can explain it for me, what I am missing.. in your eyes probably one of the less bright ...but please, no more of Rushes links..one was enough...Thank you..

I second or third the narrative is Rush's creation more than anything else.
Whatever it is, it is. But if you are talking biases in search of story, yep they exist for many people left, right, center, etc. Rush seems to breed bias.

After reading the wicki account you can get confused as to what may have gone down and the reason for it all..In this case, the only good thing is the perp did not do away with himself so possible , though it won't bring back the three victims, we'll get a answer to the why..? There are more victims too as you can see..parents, siblings..wife of the perp..not sure if kids involved ...who are all going to be affected for the rest of their lives..
