Watched it and loved it! Big zombie fan here; DH and I have watched TWD from the beginning. Glad to join the conversation.

I watched it. I liked it & am ready for more. The one thing that bothered me though was when the kid was trying to describe what he saw in the church it never crossed his mind to say something about she was acting like a zombie? Any one of us would use the word zombie. It's not like Dawn of the Dead or whatever zombie flick hasn't been around since the 70s. TWD didn't invent the genre. IDK, it was like they were trying to avoid the word.

I liked it enough that I'll watch again next week. It looked like it was going to really start picking up in the last 20 minutes or so. And the previews look like it has "the virus" spreading quickly. Should be cool.

I still want to know what happened to cause it. One day people die and they're dead. The next day, people die and rise up as zombies. What happened?!?!

I watched it, and I was also intrigued enough to keep watching. I like seeing how society reacts to the outbreak, as opposed to just Rick Grimes. I feel like TWD didn't do enough flash backs for my liking.

They talked about that on The Talking Dead and Robert Kirkman said one reason they didn't do as many is b/c TWD is about POST apocalypse so they didn't want to clutter the storyline with too many flashbacks. They also didn't want to end up following in the footsteps of LOST either. I wonder if eventually if FWD continues into multiple seasons if we will get some easter eggs involving Georgia since this does take place in the 3 weeks Rick is in the hospital. Side stepping FWD for a moment I want to talk about the first season of WD for a second. Anyone else think Sean was banging Lorie LONG before the apocalypse? I mean if it was only three weeks he was in a coma then that was moving awfully fast. Rick also mentioned in the pilot him and Lorie were having marital problems long before he got shot and the apocalypse happened. So I think she was sleeping with him to begin with. DH said it's possible but of course we'll probably never know since they are both dead.

I will watch again too. The heroin addict son is going to get shot though for walking like a zombie even if he isn't one yet.

Even if Lori & Shane weren't banging before Rick got shot they were already flirting around it. You don't go from nothing to banging out of the blue just because your husband is missing for 3 weeks.
And I agree SweetD that the kid is shambling around like a zombie. I sort of suspected he'd been bitten for awhile when watching.

To be fair, I think it's safe to assume they thought he was dead, given that the hospital was overrun. But yeah, something was definitely going on before hand.

I do think they probably thought he was dead. No need to hide it anymore. Given Shane's obessesion with Lorie I think there was something going on long before the apocalypse. I don't think anyone would think herion addict was a zombie. In fact people probably think the opposite the zombies are crazy homeless people or drug addicts. I'd imagine in LA the homeless/drug addict population is HUGE and if you're used to it you don't register it. Till they start to eat your face off but even that could be put down to a dude being on Bath Salts.

I'm starting to feel like the druggie son. I'm jonesing for the real thing & they are giving me a lame fix to get me through withdrawls.
I will continue to watch but I'm not embracing the characters yet.

I'm not really embracing the characters either. IDK if it is the actors themselves or the storyline that has me going "meh" at this point.
The scene with Travis and the zombie neighbor pissed me off. I mean even if you don't believe in killing him at some point self defense/preservation comes into play. You don't stand there continously tring to rationalize while a zombie tries to eat you.
I agree with the spanish barber guy. Between his interaction with zombie neighbor and his reaction to the kid learning how to use a shot gun he reminds me too much of Tyrese and we all know how he ended up.
And I have to say FINALLY, thank god someone got it and promptly blew the zombie's head off.

Travis is going to have to toughen up. I'm sort of envisioning the boys taking the helm of the ship with the example set by the barber. But there are only 3 more episodes left. Supposedly season 2 is a full season. Maybe this is just an intro to meet the characters.

Maybe.
I think Marie has what it takes. She bashed the principal's skull into a pulp in order to save the student. She also broke into the school to get the meds for her son.
She was going to bash her neighbor's head in with the hammer before Travis stopped her. SHe's right it is more dignified and would have saved her husband.
DH and I think it's a good bet that Susan's husband is dead since they seem to think blood is the mode of transportation and he had it all over him.

The show is just OKAY to me so far. The walking dead had me hooked from the very beginning but this show doesn't. Maybe my expectations were too high.

Anyone else still watching? Things finally got interesting last night. Have continued to watch but just can't get into it, I have been rewatching TWD during my morning workouts and FTWD isn't even close in quality. TWD has some great characters who I found it easy to root for in season one, Rick, Carl, Glenn, Daryl, Merle, Carol, T-Dog, Andrea and Dale, I wanted those guys to live. In the new show I find myself rooting for the zombies.

They are finally stepping up the action. I agree with AJ that the original characters were so likeable straight off the bat. The new ones are all rather bland. I like Maddie & now the Hispanic guy got interesting but the rest are rather forgettable. And the black guy in the jail may turn out to be an interesting character next season.

I thought the whole thing with the soldiers was interesting. I told DH I think they either killed or deliberately abandoned their sergeant so they could desert. They all wanted to leave and hated him, what better way to make it look like an accident than to ditch him in a building stuffed with walkers?

I took them at their word that he didn't make it but your idea is more interesting.

Fear the Walking Dead got more interesting the other night in that the breakdown in military protocol is open and obvious now. They should have been looking for the soldier that the old man was torturing in the basement. And they weren't. And the sergeant not making it seems believable no matter how it happened. The total collapse of any organized society now seems imminent in that world and could happen as soon as the final episode of the season.

I figured they weren't looking for him because the Captain & the other guys who saw him walk her home took Travis to the hospital so no one knew he was missing. Or if they noticed they probably assumed he was with the other guys. But you are right there is a total breakdown in the protocol.

The captain was playing golf in one episode. I told Dh "that guy is going to die, every person in the WD who plays golf tends to die".

Still watching but I'm not liking the characters much either.
I suppose people become pretty unlikable though at the start of the zombie apocalypse.

I'm more interested in the nuts and bolts of the apocalypse. But having said that, I find the snot nosed teenagers to be very believable.

Where are all TWD fans? We couldn't wait for the season to start.
So far what do you think? It was good to see the old Carol back, but she looked sad after it was all over.

I've been waiting for you guys to post!
Sunday's episode was awesome. I nearly jumped off the couch when Carol was looking out the window. Not how I thought that was going to go at all.
I also liked the "Sleeping with the Enemy" type moment that Jessie had.
The cooking timer got me at the end of the episode. I thought that was really good writing on their part b/c it hammered home how fast things can change in the apocalypse. You can't sit back and relax.
Poor Aaron.
I know in the graphic novels that Rick eventually becomes the sole leader of Alexandria. I think that is what is going to happen here as well since Deanna said she's not fit for this type of world, she would only be another person in need of rescue. Meanwhile Rick's group stood up and got shit done.
