I'm so glad I streamed it and only got 3-4 cute commercials. WTF is up with the Nissan commercial? It's like Debbie Downer was in charge of Super Bowl ads this year.

The commercials sucked! "You're a terrible absentee father but you have a cool car; gimme a hug!"
But Missy Elliott and those sharks killed it!

Some of the ads had more content than there was really time to view them. The Nissan commercial (with the race car dad) was a good example. It was a lot of stuff packed into sixty seconds. The commercial, while a good concept, was too much concept for the time frame. Same problem with the domestic violence PSA. Again, I liked the concept, but it was too rushed, too much going on and too hard to understand in sixty seconds. I liked the Nationwide one, though it was a commercial trying to be a PSA. It made a good point about home accidents and kids.
The best ones: the Budweiser puppy (frankly, I watch it for the horse trainer dude - he's mancandylicious.) The Doritos commercial was a hoot, and so was Liam Neeson as a gamer.

How about that pup who is thrown away from car and comes back home and she says 'good you came back because I just sold you on (website name)' and throws him into the car with that website name?

I liked the old people one with the Dodge. I thought that one was well-done, but I found myself wondering how many of them were still alive when the ad actually aired. Sorry, old person humor. But heck, some of them were over 100 when the ad was taped. They all seemed to be in control of all their marbles, though.

That ad was from GoDaddy, and was pulled from the Super Bowl due to backlash from the public. And a good thing, too. It was a stupid, shameful idea from a company that should have known better than that. The ASPCA had their website on a Go Daddy platform.

Any recommendations of super bowl commercials to watch on the Internet? I missed most of it between working the late shift yesterday and the NBC streaming failing to work for most of the time after I got home.
I saw the Tmobile commercial with the vulture three times though ... umm thanks NBC? Saw the BMW i3 commercial, two Camry commercials, and some game & movie preview ones.

I'm confused about the Insurance one - if I get Nationwide Insurance - does that mean they are gonna send someone to live with me and make sure I don't ever do anything stupid? Or does it mean they send someone out one time to make sure I have a save house (batteries in the smoke detector, hot water heater not set to 'nuclear hot', make recommendations about where I should keep the household products so the kids can't get them)? OR is it saying that if the kid's parents had Nationwide Insurance - Nationwide would have performed a resurection spell on the kid after he had his accident and every thing would be ok

On YOUR side. In your house. So they can watch you. 24/7. I am not sure if they go to work with you as well.

Personally I just loved the reminder of all the things my child won't get to experience, because she died. It was a serious PSA on preventable accidents in the home, but could have been done very differently. Was the point preventing accidents? Avoiding home owners claims? A plug for life insurance on your kids?

I'm so sorry for your loss, Ken I am learning that you never forget (not that you would want to), and that random trigger points wait to trip you up just when you least expect it. Like watching the Super Bowl, for example.

Budweiser puppy is always adorable! I actually liked the Bud Light Pac Man commercial. It seemed like so much fun - I wanted to play live action Pac Man!
Didn't mind the domestic violence PSA. Although I do hope the NFL players don't skip over it when they watch the game on DVR. They really need to watch that shit.

A plug for life insurance on your kids? It brought back memories from 31 years ago. Our son died from a disease and not an accident though. I think it was meant to be a PSA, but it was really toeing a very fine line there, since it's a for-profit company. I agree with the point of the commercial, but the way it was driven home is understandably upsetting for some. And the venue of showing the commercial during the Super Bowl, while designed to get the attention of as many parents as possible, might have also backfired as an inappropriate time and place to do so. A DF lost his grown son in a home accident (slip-and-fall). Nothing anyone could have done would have prevented it. I know his daddy thinks about the what-ifs every day, however.

Not much of a race fan, are you? If I was, would it make more sense that a teenaged boy teared up because his dad picked him up from school in a shiny Nissan?

I pretty much liked all the car commercials. Can we also discuss how bad the Katy Perry show was? Off notes, off key, OTT and terrible I enjoyed Bruno Mars so much at last year's Super Bowl. This time was too darn boring!

I just thought you'd forget all the mushy stuff and over the fast cars, like I did. I didn't even notice the kid. And I thought the dad was a hottie. I thought Katy Perry was OK. It's a performance, not a concert. I liked the special effects and all the props.

This time was too darn boring! It needed more Kravitz! I enjoyed Missy Elliott. I'm not a Katy Perry fan in general, but I thought a few elements of the show were cute. It's not my kind of music though. Although that damn Roar song gets in your brain, and then I find myself walking around my house singing "and you're gonna hear me rooooooooaaaaaaarrrrrr". ugh. Thankfully those are the only words of the song that I know.

I just watched it and I think it is about a love of cars from a young age, a boy and dad's relationship when dad isn't always home plus tying Nissan race cars with Nissan regular people cars.
Early on in the commercial you have the kid flipping one of his toy race cars before we see Dad's crash on the TV screen. Part of the tears I think are that Dad is still here to pick me up instead of dead on a race track. FWIW.

The commercial, while a good concept, was too much concept for the time frame. I also found it a bit deceptive. Harry Chapin's song ends with the son and his father never having much of a relationship but in the commercial they magically develop one late in the game based on a common interest. And if you needed another reminder that sometimes you don't get a chance to do that later in life: tragically, Harry Chapin died in a car accident when his only child, a daughter, was 10.
The commercial totally ignored the point of the original song.

I didn't like the half time show. I wonder how everyone could breath after the fireworks smoke fill the place?
Viagra and Doritos were funny.

They usually do. Its a car commercial. It will be about the love of cars. And perhaps for Dads who have jobs that take them away from their kids, a feel good commercial that it can work out anyway.

There was supposed to be a point (I mean, besides selling cars)? Lawdy, that's asking too much! Especially for the $4 million or so it cost to air the ad.
