(DONT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE FINALE!)
My fantasy finish for some of the characters on the show ....
TOM falls in love with Laura Edmunds (that's Edith's editor) and they get married. With Edith's blessing, they change their magazine base of operations from London to York ... so that they can live closer to family and when Edith comes to work/visit on the magazine, it's much closer to Downton. This also lets Tom continue to be in business with Henry Talbot.
Mrs. Patmore marries Mr. Mason. She keeps working as the cook at Downton until she's ready to retire.
Daisy marries Andrew. She keeps working at Downton until she's ready to take over from Mrs. Patmore. Andrew quits Downton eventually and goes into farming full time for more money.
Baxter proposes to Mr. Molesly who delightedly accepts ~ he was too chicken to pop the question and she decides to take matters into her own hands. She lives with him in his teaching cottage and keeps working at Downton. He continues to do well as a teacher and still helps PT at Downton because he really likes it.

(more fantasies) Mary ends up having a delightful little girl. Edith ends up preggers shortly after getting married and has twins ~ boy and girl..... (the boy will be the heir due to their silly laws). Bates and Anna live happily ever after with no further trips to jail. Thomas does a surprisingly good job as the Downton Butler and takes to playing chess with Mr. Carson every afternoon as way of catching up and getting wise advice. Of course, he only follows some of that advice because, after all, he is Thomas

There is talk of a movie AFTER the entire cast has other jobs. Or is this just hype to keep the fans in anticipation. Create hope where there is little.

I must say that I was delighted to see Isobel kidnap Lord Merton and marry him .... that was unexpected but altogether wonderful. It would have been nice to see her tell the family and see their quiet little wedding ~ but I understand that time was limited. Still, how very, very cool for both of them .... and I love that the Dowager helped with this. She really has become a great friend to and with Isobel (even if she would deny it.) So ... does anyone here think Denker might end up with Spratt?

I saw someone at work yesterday I haven't seen in a few years and I realized he looks a lot like Henry Talbot. So as we were talking I kept picturing him in that silly Mr. Peanut top hat and almost laughing.

I think the movie should start with a fade-in of a cathedral in London . . . an organ is playing loudly, and the camera is slowly panning past congregants (including MANY familiar faces) singing out of a hymnal. They are all dressed in black. As the camera zooms into the altar area and rests briefly on a row of bishops dressed in magnificent garments, you suddenly realize that the start of the movie has swept you directly into the funeral of Violet Crawley . . .
And unknownst to the family, at the reading of her will it comes out that she was sitting on a HUGE fortune from Prince Kuragin that he managed to smuggle out of Russia before the revolution . . . and since he and his wife are both now dead too (and the princess didn't know about it anyway), the scheming among the now-teenage Crawley heirs begins . . .

Nooooooooooooooooo.
A movie in which she gets fired because of one of her schemes though would be fun. She could be replaced by someone who is attracted to Spratt.

Of course they wrapped everything up with a nice little bow. I think that is what most of us expected. And that is the beauty of wrapping up a show on your own terms instead of being cancelled and not be able to finish it properly. But I think they still have a lot of things they can explore in a follow up movie.

I watched the finale TWICE!! Matthew Goode And good for Edith! Her story was topped with fluff and a cherry and then tied with a pretty bow, but I feel happy for her. Hers has been the most miserable role in the 6 seasons. Julian Fellowes loved to see her cry So glad its done!

I would have liked to see this. A slow fade to black then a brief epilogue life story of the characters with a old timey picture as they got older and retired. Here's a brief list. Too many characters to deal with.
1. Granny lives on well into her 100's and is sharp tongued as ever. And they find out she really was broke but getting help all these years from the Russian Prince from a secret Swiss account he put the stolen money in. Credit to Kittensaver for the idea.
2. Robert and Cora live on happily. Robert accepts life's social changes albeit begrudgingly, and is asked to run for parliament twice by the other rich land owners but never gets elected and live out their lives there. Cora dies in her late 80's and Robert shortly thereafter.
3. Edith and Mary. Well what can you say. They're both rich. Edith and Bertie do something with their lives but Mary stays stuck up and doesn't really do anything. Just being a socialite. Tom and Henry do well in the car business until WWII when the city is bombed and puts them out of business. Edith's money is safe though. She invested in real estate.
3. Anna and Bates continue to work. A few years later Bates does have a mild stroke and made him retire but Robert gives him a nice pension and they have a few more kids and live well into their 80's. Robert gives them a endowment for their kids to go to college. Their son goes on to be in the House of Commons in Parliament.
4. Carson and Hughes. His shaking gets worse so he retires and stays on as an advisor to Mr Barrows. Mrs Hughes-Carson continues to work until she retires. Of course Robert continues to be benevolent to his workers and gives them both pensions and they live happily ever after.
5. Mrs. Patmore and Mr. Mason marry. They retire, and again, Robert gives them a nice pension.
6. Daisy marries Andrew. She get a public service job in town. He runs the farm.

Oh boy, I do have to say, even as part of a disguise I really don't approve of bangs . I will have to let it slide though and give it a chance.

Reading is almost always better but there is something to be said for visual help when it's so appealing. (Not that I know what this guy looks like yet)

But it's not just that, it's the looks/personality combo.
