What's the THM diet? Maybe I'll go on it for tonight.

If you were on the THM diet you could have a salad with grilled chicken and cheese, and even dressing (as long as it didn't have sugar). Just no croutons or tortilla strips. That would be a good S meal (low-carb). Calorie counts don't really matter. Just fuel source. Carbs or fat but not both together. My favorite is Chipotle. I get a salad (no dressing) with beef, fajita veggies, pico, green salsa, cheese & sour cream (S- low-carb). Or get a salad with chicken, beans, pico, green salsa & corn salsa for an E - low-fat meal. vegetables and fruits are carbs.

It's not no carb, just low-carb. And making sure they are from good sources. Veggies are almost always neutrals for this diet. So most of my meals include a big side of them - even with butter on top And for the carbs in the low-fat meals, keeping them to those that have a low glycemic index. So no white flour, white potatoes, or sugar. THM = Trim Healthy Mama. There are other similar diets out there too (Wheat Belly, for instance). The principle is the same - just keep the fuels (fat and carbs) separate if you want to lose weight. Cross-over meals including both fuels are for when you reach goal weight or just want to have one to shake things up. Fuel pull meals/snacks are high in protein but low in both carbs & fat. *Disclaimer* I just like the main premise of the book, and certainly don't endorse the whole thing. I would stick to google for the recipes and not read the actual book. It's not a normal writing style so it is hard to read, and they are very conservative mamas so anyone with an ounce of feminisim would get irritated by some of their non-diet life advice I just skip over those parts. But I will credit them for doing a LOT of research and citing their sources, and encouraging those going on the plan to also research and double check the sources they provided.

I don't normally eat flour or sugar - I may have some every now and then, but many times i go the entire week without it. I do have red potatoes about twice a week otherwise my meals are proteins, fruits, veg and healthy fats. But pounds aren't shedding off and calories certainly do count. my guess is that this works by limiting meals to only one calorie dense category at a time (either fat OR grains/carbs) so that calories are lower overall.

Stop dieting, change your eating habits for good, and get moving. Run, walk, bike, swim, go to a gym. Every day! This is really not rocket science. Burn some calories cleaning all the processed crap out of you freezers fridges and cupboards. That shit's poison.
Eat 5 to 7 meals a day. Not full meals like steak and potatoes but enough to keep your metabolism up and burning. A hand full of almonds, a couple of hard boiled eggs, some canned tuna (sans the mayo) lemon will have to do. Celery, a cucumber, some steamed veggies, some berries. One fruit in the morning one at lunch. none at dinner. Snack in between.
You need to eat to lose. We are an animal that has spent most of it's existence grazing. A hand full of berries here some roots there.
Stay away from things that are white. Flour, refined starches, potatoes, salt, sugar, et al.
DRINK a lot of water. Tea without sugar is good. It's a diuretic and will help you shed water and stay on track.
I could go on, but the key is to eat the way we did prior to industrial farming. That is when most of our physical development occurred. Our metabolisms have not caught up to how most humans eat now.
You will have missteps, but persist one screw up doesn't mean you get to give up from then on.

Oh if you start working out heavily you will have to increase your calorie count to match your activity or you body will go into starvation mode. It will store fat even though you're not eating much. Your organs are surrounded by fat that they need and your brain is almost all fat. Well you get the picture. Your body will not let you put it at risk. So as you increase your activity find out how much those activities burn and increase your calories. Or you will not lose subcutaneous fat
Really still it's not rocket science.

Having a pretty good week for workouts - Tuesday was the weight lifting circuit at the gym. My accountability coach is going to put together something custom for me based on the reps/weights and machines I have available. But until then it's just straight down the row to get in all the target muscle groups. Tonight was okay - I did 40 minutes of zumba and then 50 min of aqua aerobics but then I got in the hot tub to relax and when I got out I was SUPER dizzy. I know part of it is the low fat/calorie diet but also I had not had the soup which provides more sodium. So it sounds like I'll be doing a bouillon tonight before my last meal. It should help because I'm freezing and can't get in the shower until I feel 100% so I won't pass out in there.
Tomorrow it's back to the weights. Next week I weigh in on Tuesday so I'm hoping that extra day + all the workouts will be a 7 lb loss for the week. At least that's what I'm aiming for. My home scale is never accurate to the doctor's but as long as I'm under the number I weighed in at last week I know I'm going in the right direction.

I failed MISERABLY at Perkins. I really don't have much self control around food. Thank God going out to eat is so darn expensive and I'm so cheap.

My Fitbit says I climbed 21 flights of stairs today. Woohoo! Sad thing is I climbed one. I wasn't expecting 100% accuracy from it, but the last few days it's had some crazy inaccuracies. I need to see if there's a way to reset or calibrate it.

I also notice that if I move around while the elevator is moving at work, sometimes it counts flights.

I didn't lose anything according to the scale this morning, but I didn't gain anything either. Yesterday turned in a long day at the VA medical center, left at 9AM and pulled into the driveway about 4:30. I did have my veggie wrap for dinner, but didn't get in my 10K steps.
We have a potential ice/snow storm predicted for Monday & Tuesday, so will stop and get a fresh supply of veggies, some juice, bread and some milk. Everything else is good to go if we get iced in.
Amazon says my new scale is scheduled for deliver tomorrow, looking forward to having a digital one again.
Carry on fellow losers.....

Oh by the way stay away from the scale for 6 months. It's a buzz kill. Also if you are in the gym you will be gaining muscle and muscle is much heavier than fat. So you may actually gain weight. If you must measure use a tape measure. Not the metal one . Keep in mind how long it took for you to get to where you are now. If you have been overweight for years you can't expect to reverse it all in days, weeks, or months. Be patient and persevere.

I just looked at the calendar and realized I am leaving for my warm weather vacation in 9 days!! WOO HOO! Time buckle down so while I'm there, I can enjoy the perks of being at an all-inclusive resort!
Tonight's pizza party may not be part of that buckling down thing, though. Well, I guess the good news is that I don't have any dessert left, so at least I won't overindulge in both carbs and sugar.

Lets say a cubic foot of muscle is heavier than a cubic foot of fat. Muscle is more dense and therefore heavier.

With vacation so near, my stress level has decreased. I got the keys to our rental and a switch flipped. I've started packing and am getting excited, which is distracting me from stressing. For the first time in a month, the scale is moving and things are fitting better. Proof that weight isn't just about calories in vs. Calories out. I eat pretty clean, I am active and work out several days a week... But with stress levels through the roof, nothing was happening. I actually gained a couple pounds and was quite puffy. I almost anticipate dropping like 10 pounds while I am gone- stressfree days full of snorkeling and swimming, hopefully restful sleep and fresh fish every day! I can't wait.

so I hopped on the scale just now and saw a number I haven't seen in a very long time - 197.4. woot! and yesterday, I ordered my bridesmaid's dress for a wedding in May. I went in to try on stuff about a month ago, figured out which dress I wanted this one, in "petal", and took measurements. they didn't have a sample of the one I wanted in size 18, but I was able to close the hook on a 16, even if I couldn't zip it. the measurements put me squarely in an 18. I called in to order it the other day, and thought "wait a sec, I should double check the size....I've lost a few more lbs since the last time I went in." so um.....I ordered a 16. it fit perfectly

I remember trying on samples a few years back for my best friend's wedding. At that point in time i wore a size 12 bottom and 14 top. I had to order a size 18 bottom and size 20 top. the top was a little tight and the bottom was a bit loose. When the actual pieces came in, the top was almost too big to even keep on and the bottom was nearly 2 inches away from being able to button. It was the most insane experience ever! So glad that yours turned out so much better. That dress is beautiful, i am sure you'll look fantastic in it!

I hate dress shopping, period. and I am absolutely with you on sizing. the problem I have is that my chest is going to dictate what the dress size is, and then I'll have to mess with alterations up the wazoo. that's exactly why I picked the dress I did, and I picked a similar style for my sister's wedding a couple summers back - the only measurement that really matters is the chest size. the rest of the dress just flows. and what we figured out yesterday is that the 16 won't zip (right now) when I am wearing a strapless bra, but not only zips but fits perfectly without one at all. so when mine comes in, I'll see where I'm at on the scale, and see if I can get away with no alterations if I just put a bra on. since I'm not really actively trying to lose weight, with everything else I'm trying to manage in my life right now, I honestly have no idea where I'm going to be by April.

Well, today was going to be my awesome get mega steps in day. Older son is camping and younger son goes to his Dad's from 11-6 so lots of time to myself. I wake up to 0 degrees and 40 mph winds. Ugh. I didn't even let the horses out today. The cold I can deal with. Cold AND wind sucks. But...I cut a deal with myself before snatching two cookies after breakfast that I would give it a try and see how it goes. Not looking forward to it though.

He camps with the Boy Scouts at least once a month year round. Winters are usually in cabins, but not always, often the boys have the option of building a quinzee (snow shelter) and staying outside. They get a special award for camping outside in temps below zero. The "Zero Hero" award. I TRIED walking the lake today, but those 40mph winds were awful, so we drove 26 miles to the mall and hung out there for awhile. Tonight I bundled up and walked a mile. It was 2 below, but not windy anymore, so tolerable. Got 16K steps in today. Ate Valentine's candy and cookies though.

Had a busy couple of days with no working out but got back to the gym tonight for a weight lifting circuit. Spent most of my day working in the garage so I had several hours of low level exercise since there was plenty of lifting, sweeping, and moving stuff around. Tomorrow it's back to running and I'm not looking forward to it, even though the weather has been great.
Weighing in on Tuesday this week and hoping for 20 lbs lost.

I can't believe you went out in that weather MPL! Yesterday I went shopping and we walked the outlet mall and target. 40 mph winds were our enemy yesterday... Some ass left their target cart out and the winds picked it up and smashed into our bumper. Because it was like... 6° we ended up with a hole bashed in our bumper. Yay... Will be calling insurance about that today. Anyway... I got in 11k +steps. Went for a pedicure to prep for my trip Saturday and ended up taking a cab home because it was just so brutal out! I didn't even want to stand on the train platform!
My lower back has been hurting the last two days. I am going to stretch it out and do some core work today. It is amazing how quickly that slips.

My heel cracked yesterday. That is going to put a damper on walking for awhile. I still will, but it really hurts.

I've not been good on making time to exercise. So i decided i would make the most of my normal routine. Diapers are all upstairs in the babys room, so for every change i have to walk up there. Twice a day ive been picking up the baby and going up/down the stairs ten times in a row. And when he's doing tummy time i do squats and pushups by him to entertain him. DD and i get up to dance around on commercial breaks or we watch Bo on the Go and do the exercise moves together. Kids are loving it and i am getting in a bit of exercise too

Did my cardio yesterday and it was gorgeous outside - so much better than the muddy rain from last weekend. Tonight is Aqua Aerobics to swim and sweat. I'm not hitting my goal weight for this week on my scale but will wait for the doctor's official tomorrow afternoon. At least I know I'm doing the right things and working out more each week. I just lack patience
