I've had a horrible, sugar filled week. I've been stressed about other things going on in my life, so have no willpower and very little focus. Good news is that I'm going to the gym today. And working on a meal plan for next week. One problem is that I didn't have good lunches or snacks this week. I will fix that!
Nutritionist was interesting last week. From a questionnaire I took, it seems that I have 3 main problems:
Uneven blood sugar (spiking and crashing) Not processing fats well Overworked adrenal glands
I am doing some lab work this weekend that will give her some hard data so she'll know where to start supporting my system. That will take a couple of weeks though. I left her office with more information but not really an action plan. Well, I have a few things to do, such as incorporate more vegetables, have healthy back up meals/snacks for when things don't turn out well, etc.
I've started eating parsnips - anyone else eat them? They are delicious! Also switched to almond butter from peanut butter.
She thinks I should eat leftovers not sandwiches for lunch, and that's fine, but I try to get 2 meals out of every one that I cook so I don't have to cook every night. Now I need to double or triple my recipes! Gah.

Between the rain, and all the appointments happening because of our broken hot water heater, and the work I am doing to apply to grad school, I haven't done much beyond walking the dogs. I did a little deep breathing before bed, but I've been up so late the past few nights I am going to sleep with the before bed yoga.
But I am going to do yoga tonight, and I'm going to do better starting tomorrow.
At least my house is clean. But that has more to do with DH being away for work, and I haven't been cooking much. I'm nearly out of food though so tomorrow I have to go to the store. I haven't been because with the broken water heater I have been taking a bath in the sink and not washing my hair so I've refused to leave the house. It was bad enough that 2 repairmen and the landlord had to see me like this.

Hey everyone! Still chugging along. Down about 20 pounds in the last 3 months. Happy about that. Stress is high and I am having some insane symptoms that I won't get into, but I have started seeing a therapist for the first time ever. Progress has slowed a bit, but still slowly going in the right direction. We bought some dumbbells for DH yesterday and resistance bands so we are going to start strength training this week. Yay!

Ugh
Another poor week on step total. Did not think it could be worse than last week but it was.
I am going to try to get in 80,000 steps this week. Not sure it this is realistic as I will be working long hours Monday thru Wednesday. I also have to work on Saturday.
Have a great week everyone. Off to get in few steps before work.

I've been working on getting myself more organized. I gave up on doing my yard myself and hired someone to do it for me. That made my life a lot easier by itself lol. I rode 20 miles on my bike this morning for the first time ever. My girl friend and I rode again with our male coworker that rides a lot. She only wanted to ride 10 miles but she wasn't keeping up with the miles and we didn't dare tell her how far we'd gone, she was in the front and never stopped to turn around. I don't know what happened with her, but she set the pace and they were both leaving me! I never thought I was really competitive but I most definitely did not like that lol. I was doing a lot of good natured muttering and cussing, they were so far ahead they wouldn't have heard me unless I was screaming. They finally stopped to rest at 10 miles. I got a 2nd wind and did much better the 2nd half, I was determined to not let them leave me again. She was the one lagging by then. At first I was cursing the fact that I don't have a road bike, but then I said screw it. Chasing them on a mountain bike was a good workout and working hard felt good. I can work toward being the old woman that can ride the heck out of any old bike, wherever. Wouldn't that be something. So my latest goal is to settle into 20 miles. I can't believe I rode that far and I feel great!

I'm so tired. I want to just sleep for a week straight. That's not helping me feel motivated to move. I've been pushing the working out thing the last few weeks, and I know that partly I'm so tired because I haven't had a real break for awhile. BUT, next week is my rest week, so if I can just make it through this week, I'll be good In better news, my fruit/veggie challenge at work is going well. According to the online tool I have to use to track my fruit/veggie intake, I've hit 15 days of 2 fruit/3 veggie servings so far this month. I have to hit 16 days to successfully complete the challenge. And based on what I'm planning for dinner tonight, I'll hit 16 days tonight. I plan to keep trying to hit the goal of 2 fruit/3 veggie servings going forward. I've not lost any weight doing this, but I do think it's helping me in other ways. At least, I'm hoping so. I don't add butter/cheese to my veggies, I just steam them and sometimes add salt or pepper. So I'm sure it's good for me that I'm doing this.

here's hoping that as you feel that stress slip away as your DD gets settled at the new house, your muscles will ease up and relax from you not being so tense. <hugs> as for me, I have my alarm set for 530 tomorrow morning. even if I hit snooze til 6, I can take the pup for a walk before heading in to work. it's a routine I needed to get into weeks ago, but it is what it is. sent from my electronic distraction

....and I didn't take the pup for a walk this morning, again. I gotta figure out how to break myself of the habit of hitting snooze in my sleep. I opened my eyes at 5 past 7 this morning. I need to leave the house by 8 to be at work on time. will set the alarm for early again tomorrow and see what happens, I guess.

chiver I've been hitting snooze without realizing it too! Funny. Maybe I need to go to bed earlier.
I worked out 3 times last week ( yay!) and am going to a class tonight. Sent off some lab work for my nutritionist so hopefully we will have some hard data soon on what my system needs help with.
In some ways, I think I'm eating better. I feel - different! Like more even-keeled. Is that a real thing? I know my symptoms suggested that my blood sugar was spiking and crashing and I wonder if I am eating better already to help it stay a little more level.
Today's plan :
B: 2 wheat English muffins, 4 slices bacon iced coffee (my weakness!)
Snack: apple with peanut butter
L: chicken and wheat cous cous babybel cheese
Snack: 000 yogurt
Dinner: roast with carrots
Snack: TRY NOT TO!

I eat bacon and avacado pretty much daily to keep my fat intake up and it helps so much.

Sugar is BAD - EVIL - ADDICTIVE. Okay, that said, day 2 of no added sugar. It's in my cream (1/2 & 1/2 not that other stuff), breakfast bar (least grams in store), raw veggies which is ample.

I got up before dawn this morning, planning to get a good start on thoroughly cleaning my house before I went for a bike ride sometime this morning. I was scrubbing away and it took me a while to realize I was so hot because my air wasn't working. It's been back on about 10 minutes now and it's 87 degrees in my house. I was suppose to shoot for another 20 miles today. Now all my plans are off track. I couldn't run errands because I needed to be here when the a/c guy came, and I had to stop cleaning and sit down and try not to move because it was hot in here. Other than all that, I've been doing great. lol @patstab, have you ever looked into turmeric? It's the spice that's in curry. A lot of people swear it's great for some digestive issues and inflammation issues like arthritis. My usual disclaimer........ I'm not an expert in anything, I just read a lot lol. I don't have any experience with it, just thought I'd mention it so you can research what reputable sources say about it if you're inclined. I hope you feel better soon!

I killed in the fruit/veggie challenge. Now let's hope these habits I picked up this month stick with me!
The new challenge I'm part of is just a step challenge. Average 7500 steps a day for 8 weeks. I've got this!! LOL. My current daily average is 14,000 so I'm mostly doing it to help my team win.
I'm no longer tired-figure out it was TOM and that always makes me tired. I need to plan that to be my rest week-because now I'm not feeling the need to rest so much. Tho now that summer temps are back I may hide out inside from the humidity!!

pink- UGH! best laid plans and all that! I am glad you AC is fixed and you were right to take it easy! flamingo- way to go with the fruit and veggies. I am still struggling most days pat- feel better! I just finished up weights, core and a little yoga/stretching. In the past week or two I have had several comments about how I look thinner/smaller. 3 comments today alone. I haven't really lost much of anything in the past couple of weeks. Anxiety has me mainlining chocolate and potato chips. I have started therapy to deal with some anxiety and some of the side effects that have resulted from it (which are effecting my diet in multiple ways) Hopefully. I can work through some things and be back on track soon. I am committing FOR REAL to regular yoga and stretching most days of the week. I set up a reminder on my phone everyday to do it. most of the time I don't remember until I am getting ready for bed. NO EXCUSES! now i have to scarf down some roast and veggies!

I'm starting a low fat vegan food challenge with a few friends today. Two of them did it successfully back in 2013, and I've tried to do it 3 times now and always quit after a week because DH won't do it with me. So I've figured out some ways around that. Recipes I can make that are meat free that he can add shrimp or chicken to. Meat doesn't tempt me, but cheese is harder to stay away from. Plus my friends are going to share recipes with me and they started a facebook page for support. So I think that will help. It's just 6 weeks and I keep telling myself I should be able to do anything for 6 weeks. I honestly think last time I just quite it was because I was doing well and got scared. Feels stupid to admit that because for years I've been telling myself I want to return to the best weight for my body which is in the 140s, so it seems silly that when I really started to make progress I couldn't handle it.
I'm also resetting my exercise goals for the month. They include riding my bike 3 times a week, walking the dogs at least 5 times a week, doing yoga every night before bed, and at least 3 mornings a week. The yoga is going to help me keep on track with food, and the bike riding is going to be my only cardio. I've slowed down my dog walking quite a bit which the dogs like because they can sniff more and it makes it a bit more enjoyable for me.
And of course I'm having my period right now too. So anything I do right deserves a big gold star. I weighed in at 178.8 this morning and considering the time of month I was happy with that. I expect I'll shed 3-6 pounds of mostly water weight this week between the new diet and usual monthly fluctuations. Since I am going to post elsewhere about my food I won't do so much of that here. Maybe just a weekly check in.

August was not a good step total (272,4490). Oh well that is in the past.
September is always a busy month at work. My September step goal is going to be 300,000.
Off to get in a few steps before work.
Have a great day everyone.

so I don't think I'm going to make my goal for the dietbet round. it's really my own fault, I kind of had my head up my ass for the first 3 weeks of it and didn't really do anything to help myself until last week. I have until 11:59PST on the 3rd to do a final weigh-in, but as of right now I am 2lbs short of the 4% I needed to lose. that said, I was 195.4 this am, and continuing to drop. I'll take it.

sarcasticgirl I'm not anti-meat or dairy, but I don't eat much of it to begin with. My friend asked me to do this with her for support, but my goal is really more about getting as much fruit and vegetables in my diet as possible. I've noticed that I don't get as much produce as I should if I'm eating meat, processed grains, and dairy. And I guess the term low fat is misleading because I am getting plenty of fat from seeds, nuts, and beans.

I'm also a mess. I'm doing the same 1500 mg of sodium stuff that DH is. So far, thanks to my nifty new Vitamix I've lost 2#. The previous weight loss ended up failing and I'm back to where I started. At least in the past week we only ate out once. It was breakfast and I had an omelet, no toast or anything else.
Maybe this time I'll make some progress.

I'm seriously off track. I haven't been on my bike all week. I already told you all about Monday. Tuesday I spent the day REALLY cleaning my house. Wednesday I woke up feeling like crap and that afternoon my 1yo grandaughter fell and tore a chunk out of her gums and I ended up at the ER with her. It was hours before anyone could get it to stop bleeding so badly and since she's only 1yo, she was swallowing most of the blood the whole time. Yesterday I rushed home after work to meet the guy who cuts my yard now. By the time he finished the yard and left, my house was hot again. It turned out that he apparently cut a wire on my a/c compressor with the weedeater I guess. I'm not angry with him, I've noticed many times that that wire blends in with the twigs on the bush next to it. I guess I should have gotten it taped down or something a long time ago. Which my friend did when he fixed it last night. It was 85 degrees in my house by the time he was able to get here to fix it. Today I got sick of my coworkers harasssing me about a funny looking spot on my leg where an insect bit me at work last weekend and I finally went to see about it. I didn't see whatever bit me, and yesterday I made the "mistake" of asking a couple people if they knew what a spider bite looked like. We've had employees get bitten by brown recluse spiders at work, and I've been hearing about those again and other spider bite horror stories since yesterday morning. And then the stupid thing started oozing while I was being harrassed this morning by a couple more people that heard something had bitten me, so now it's been confirmed that whatever bit me, the site is infected and I'm on antibiotics. Sigh. After I picked up the prescription, I stopped and got a chocolate cake sundae. And I'm not going to ride my bike today either. This has not been a fun week.
