I don't think I want to read the article. Is society being defined by the author solely on dating and getting married? Single people, widowers can't be parts of society? Priests are not part of society?
If you think you are being called a rapist for expressing sexual interest, perhaps you don't know how to act in polite society and you are the one with the problem.

Yeah, but a lot of them aren't getting the HOT chicks. It's sad. And just WRONG!! stop shaming homely women. I think its a mock of the belief that any man no matter what deserves the hot chicks.

All women are hot in their own way.

But he CAN'T be the one with the problem. Don't you know that would mean he's actually have to introspective and <shudder> make changes to himself, when he's awesome exactly as he is now?!

I couldn't read the whole article. But my initial reaction was to the picture. I had the same reaction that SL already posted. He is sitting around his crappy apartment without proper furniture in his underwear playing video games. Yeah he's a real catch.

The key word in the entire argument comes in the first sentence. BOYS. Children think they are the center of the universe, because they are. They have to be, to survive. It's been generation upon generation upon generation that males were at the center of the universe, so to speak. The world has evolved, IS evolving. And yet, there has still been that subtle and sometimes not so subtle, if not downright blatant message that men are superior. It's always been fascinating to me that this developed at all, since women are the life givers in our species. Whatever.. It might well be confusing to some boys. And some are just pissed their fathers gave away what they considered their birthrights, if they are honest. And a a great many are becoming brutally so. I like to think most men are just living life as good people, period. Others just sit in basements and play video games and talk about all the tail they aren't getting. Sucks to be them.

And don't forget that he apparently is fine with his defining characteristic being described as "video game enthusiast." It's a mystery why quality women aren't throwing themselves at his feet.

All of you feminist are being overly aggressive! Don't you know that only MEN are allowed to be aggressive? Geeze....no wonder these poor men can't get women and have to play video games instead. I also find it interesting that it is women's fault that men have to turn to porn and sexual fetishes....

I don't think all of that fits in the thread headline space, but it's certainly fits the Neanderthal in this article. Poor baby wants to check out because he cannot find a chickie to tend to his every want and need, and be hot to trot 24/7 and look like whatever the latest edition of arm candy is supposed to look like. I hope he does indeed check out...into whatever basement, garage or attic portal is waiting for the likes of him and his ilk. May he find all the furniture made of orange crates, the bed a futon and that his Mommy reveals herself to actually be a construction dude with matted back hair, a butt crack the size of the Amazon River and a long, dry spell of living without companionship.

I feel like video games are getting an unfairly bad rap in this thread. DH and I frequently play them together after our kid goes to bed.
Only reason I didn't spend an hour slitting throats in Assassin's Creed last night was because I had two taped hockey games to catch up on.

I have no problem with video games, but if you are going to whine and complain about how you aren't getting laid, you might want to put down the controller for a little while.

I think some men/boys are addicted to these things. I mean it is fine as a form of entertainment ,but some of my sons' friends are on the Xbox like 24/7.

I also find it interesting that it is women's fault that men have to turn to porn and sexual fetishes.... And the inability or the unwillingness to define or determine the difference between assertiveness or aggression. I would like to see if defined equitabtly. And applied consistently. I hear that men want women to be more assertive sexually and socially in order that they might be spared rejection. Women have waited on men's rejection forever. And yet so often, that very assertiveness is turned back on them as aggression, with a not so attractive connotation when it comes to other aspects of life. Or if she is deemed not desireable enough. She's a maneater, etc. Or worse. Men talk about the fine line they walk? Honestly, when was the last time anyone gave any credence to a man called out on his sexual morals, or had his fitness as a parent based on them? It happens with women, a lot. Sexual assertiveness is often just another name for whore or slut in our world.

Perhaps, if the author gave some thought to what he might have to offer rather than denigrating the women who don't want his boyish self, he might be able to formulate a plan to actually become someone in whom a woman might be interested.

I think in this case it was because the focus of the article himself focused and self identified as such. The video games themselves, as with money, aren't the root of the evil. It's the focus on them to the exclusion of reality, and redefining reality based on some escapism and perception that doesn't exist unless THEY make it so that is the issue. The disconnect and the blame laying.

Don't you know that these type of men want a submissive lady in the streets and a freak in the bed....but ONLY with them. If you slept with anyone but them, you are probably a whore.
I am so happy that I found my husband. He loves that I am a strong, assertive woman. He knows that I have a brain and I am not afraid to use it. He also supports the fact that I am a bra burning feminist (well, not the bra burning part anymore, my boobs got too big and I need the damn bra now!)

The article describes the experiences of a tiny subset of that age group, yet it implies that their problems are universal to all males in that generation. Maybe they need to climb out into the sunlight and met some of their peers who are socially and professionally successful and get some pointers on where they're going wrong.

Well that article was a big bunch of whining & playing the victim.
Life is hard all around, you suck it up & play with the hand your dealt instead of saying the entire country is backward & the opposite sex is to blame for everything. Sometimes (maybe most of the time) you need to look in the mirror to find the root of your problems.

I would personally prefer he discover that women are not the enemy and find a fulfilling life outside of paranoia and fantasy, but he's got a lot invested in it, as are those feeding it with these type of sensationalized articles.

To me, it seems the author identifies his own problem in his first sentence. ... Never before in history have relations between the sexes been so fraught with anxiety, animosity and misunderstanding. This is what I would consider the author's first sentence. With the exception of a paragraph that explains something referenced, the start of the article is quoted material by someone other than the author of the article. FWIW

But I've noticed that among some of the younger men who work with my husband....referring to themselves as "boys". That used to be considered as a bit of an insult past a certain age. Kind of the women being forever "girls" thing. Peter Pan meets Alfalfa and the He Man Women's Haters Club.. (If you're under 45, Google it... )

It's HIS life, and he needs to live it. If the quality is not what he feels he deserves, that is on him. Not on half of the human race.
