Was watching a show the other night- and then watched a few more- on PBS hosted by Henry Louis Gates from the 'beer summit' fame, called Finding Your Roots- good show.
What is unstoppable- in spite of racial purity groups and other impediments to progress- is that at some point there is not going to be any way to identify a person by physical attributes alone as part of a particular 'race'.
The most amazing thing I saw was the DNA testing that shows how much of a particular race anyone is comprised of and where those parts originate from.
So in a few hundred years it is very possible we will be so mixed there is only one race left- human
So then I guess we only fight about religion then.

I got a kick watching a TV show in which Craig Cobb, the self identified racist who tried to buy up all the property in Leith, Noth Dakota to turn it into a all-white community, had a DNA test done on himself and it was determined he was like 15% part sub-Saharan African. He called it just statistical noise.
Some anti-white black woman was on the show too and she found out she was part white.

There is not racial pureness ANY were. Race is a social thing and not a biology thing. Since you can test for your ancestors origins (and therefore race), then it is biological. The fact that it is important to some is a social thing.

Maybe its gonna tell you PROBABLY they had dark skin or looked this way or that way but its gonna not tell you race.

If a test says your ancestors are 99% northern European, then you're white. Are you saying such a person could be black? How?

Racism never saw life with me; at least, not within my memory. I figure if it looks like a human it's a human. Human is good enough for me.

The whole 'race' thing always makes me scratch my head and wonder.... especially since when I was growing up the Grown Ups had idea that "Irish" or "Italian" or "Polish" or... etc where each a 'race'. The whole race thing always seemed a bit arbitrary and capricious to me.

If your ancestor 7 generations before was different race then whats your race?

A lot of non-white northern European ancestors? I'm not seeing how their race isn't white. If its biology its gonna be exact and you can find it out from DNA only. If they can test your DNA they can say OK your 85.55% white and 4.45% black and 9.10% Asian and 0.90% south Asian. Except they can not do it from your DNA. There is not a race gene.

Human's generally really like 'lineages' probably because it confers social status (allows political power and wealth to be passed down thru generations.) You need a way to indicate which humans are more equal/better and odds are it will be based on who they claim as ancestors. I'm sure there's some 'errors' in most lineages weather from typos/creative license OR sex outside marriage (be it rape or a wandering spouse).

Yeah, but they can determine you are 85.55% Scandinavian, 4.45% west African, 9.10% Mongolian and 0.90% Chinese in ancestry. For all intents & purposes that breaks down your race. I understand what you are saying that you can't just test race. But, being able to determine ancestry tells you race.

And when they say you are 85.55% Scandinavian, they don't mean that your Latin American ancestors owned a Peruvian restaurant in Norway for 3 generations. They mean you are 85.55% white. And probably blond.

I think people sometimes use "race" when they mean "ethnicity". Some people from India, for example, have darker skin tones than some "black" people in America, but the Indians aren't considered black. Race is a term we use all the time and it usually means black people or white people, but that really only goes so far. People from some other countries are neither "black" or "white", and then you're getting into ethnicities.
It's very possible that I have it all wrong. lol

I actually got it for my entire family for a Christmas gift one year. I thought it was cool. We were most interested in what Alzheimer genes we each carried because that definitely runs in my family.
It also led to the discovery for my ex that his dad was not actually his dad...so that kind of sucked. He asked me not to give him another Christmas gift like that again . So there can be downsides.

OMG I'm LMAO!!! He kind of deserved that. Was it expensive? It was $100/person. I did both my parents, my brother, myself, and my ex (wasn't my ex at the time, this was several years ago).
In a way I think it explained some things. Turned out his real dad is an alcoholic too & also basically can't hold down a job or function. So I think he had a genetic predisposition for all his issues that we weren't aware of previously. Just hope my kids aren't screwed due to crappy genetics

Winner-I am drawing a blank here. What was your posting moniker yesterday (or before your changed it)? Sorry I cannot figure it out.

When do I get to dislike Obama based on his policies and the fact that I think he's an asshat and not get judged a racist?
For the record there are a multitude of other politicians on both sides, of varying shades of color, who are also asshats.
