Tennesseer, the article on the internet has also been updated, though it didn't mention malaria. It just says there is an alternate primary diagnosis. The test for ebola has not come back yet. I'm just not sure that the initial news report should have happened. Especially since the italics in my above quote was the entire article and it states that the patient does not fit all of the screening guidelines for Ebola. Even if the hospital is taking precautions just in case, the initial news report seemed premature to me. I'm all for being informed, but people are already panicky about Ebola and reports like this could just be alarming people unnecessarily. I agree. Why cause panic when you have zero diagnosed facts. Someone can have the majority of the symptoms (beyond a fever) and not have ebola. Unless the patient has external bleeding, no announcement should be made until a positive diagnosis has been made. Test results released for the suspected Memphis ebola patient: no ebola. All is safe in the mid-south. Mid-South patient tests negative for Ebola

after a dozen or so false alarms, people MIGHT start to use their MINDS. I sure hope so. I'm getting more than tired of all the doom and gloom about Ebola having traversed to North America to wreak havoc on innocent citizens! Can we concentrate on those in West Africa who are still dying in droves?

ok, he passes the "not an imbecile" test. No. He's not an imbecile, but he's still an idiot. There's no need for them to be in isolation if they have no damned symptoms!

How sweet of him. Human beings being treated like human beings. Who'da thunk it? For the record, without any symptoms there's still no viable reason for quarantine - anywhere!

Yes, dj, I've been following it. The nurse is a female - and a red-haired one, at that. She's mad as hell and I don't blame her! She had a porta-potty. Lovely. No shower. Even more lovely. No television. Let's cut 'em off from the outside world! Right! She did have her smart phone, thankfully. She insisted on taking it with her into the bloody tent!

Yes, she threatened to sue and got a lot of publicity about her conditions. I think that's why the governor backed down.
But if she is returning to her home state of Maine, can NY still enforce her quarantine or is she now under the laws of Maine?
And I wonder how she is traveling? There's sure to be a big fuss about that.

Leprosy (Hansen's Disease) is, like Ebola, pretty difficult to catch under the circumstances in which we live in this country. It's been pretty much eliminated and can be treated effectively if someone does get it.

And I wonder how she is traveling? There's sure to be a big fuss about that. She's driving home to Maine, "escorted" by some health officials and officials from DWB, I read. As for Maine, NJ has essentially said it's notified Maine and it'll be Maine's job to figure out what they want to do in their own state.

I think this was sprung so fast on the hospital that they didn't have anytime to think it through. The governors acted without any input from health officials.

It's probably her car right? Or will she "win" a new car because the rental company doesn't want it back? Or are the health officials escorting her going to just throw a Molotov cocktail at it when the reach their destination? Oh wait! Close quarters for hours, the health officials will have to be quarantined! Quick, someone tell the Maine hospital to go buy two tents! Or maybe they're just tailing her in another car to be "safe". She should give them the slip at a rest stop.
