i don't know much about Paglia, other than she thrives on controversy, and considers God man's "greatest idea".
but i fervently disagree with the opening sentence. i think that young women in college (that is what she was referring to) figure "civilization" is either a bogus concept, or can take care of itself, and that "savage nature" is in the eye of the beholder. in this case, a very jaundiced eye.

I can't take a man talking about women being raped & deciding women are overreacting seriously.

What, AgeOfEnlightenmentSCP, does this article have to do with radical Islam, pray tell? There is absolutely no connection here.

I figure young women today are individuals, just as they've always been. I also figure it's more than possible that said young women have equal "understanding" to that of Ms. Paglia and paul.

Thanks for the link. I am surprised paul forgot to supply a link seeing he reminded me I needed to supply a link to something I posted why just the other day.

Putting 'rape culture' in air quotes inside a statement suggesting that most rape is just melodrama resulting from mixed signals, puts young women in danger...

I'm trying to follow the logic that says a long series of girls gone missing cases (assumed abduction with intent to defile) are a sign that there is no rape culture on university campuses.

What puts women in danger is all the things that are called RAPE that aren't... and thus thinning out the anger/outcry when a real, actual, rape happens. "rape culture" comes from doing just that.

You know, when you're roofied and you don't remember having sex, that's not real rape....

You know, when you're roofied and you don't remember having sex, that's not real rape.... Wrong. That IS rape. What's not rape is when you regret it in the morning... but willingly (without being drugged, against your will) had it the night before. ETA: or the outright false accusations (even if they are rare)... let's not forget what happened at Duke University a few years ago. False allegation filed, several men's reputations ruined, turned out to be a lie... and the false accuser never faced charges for her false accusations.

That is an unsubstantiated chestnut folks like to pull out for distraction. Actually the whole article is another distraction. It starts out talking about abduction and murder and a real life example of such a case and does a back flip with a double twist to suddenly be talking about false allegations. What a contortionist!

That is the most amazing example of victim blaming I have seen in a while. What is the price of men's modern freedoms? Why is there a price for modern freedoms? Who made up this rule?

BS. It can't be that rare.. I personally know of two instances. One was my brother, the other was a former female friend that bragged about her false accusation years after she had done it (she did it before I knew her, and bragged about it several years later).

Maybe it's the people you hang around with. In 72 years on the planet, I know of no case of this, personally.

I was kind of stuck with the brother through no choice of my own. ETA: the woman that falsely accused him was HIS choice... not mine!

Hmmm... I wonder...
Should I make up a questionnaire for females I may become friends with?
In the past, have you ever falsely accused someone of rape? In the past, have you ever...
I need to work on this.

Do you not know the difference between "it's not as rare as you think" and "it happens all the time"? Seriously?

But I do know of a woman that is missing, assumed abducted, defiled and murdered. She's in the OP. Apparently there has been a rash of these abductions lately. I wonder what is being done about it.

I agreed with the headline and a couple sentences in the full article. The sentences that I liked didn't have much to do with rape.
