I don't seem to be making any headway this month, at all. Maybe I should stop beating myself up over this and just realize that after 6 months of restrictions, my body seems to be asking nicely for a break ... so, I'm focusing on my health this month. (I did bike 20 miles on Sunday), but the weather in December isn't terribly conducive to long bike rides, and I managed to pull a muscle during/after Sunday's ride. Don't worry, I'm still eating healthy.

Just be kind to yourself cause maybe your body says yeah I know I'm feeling better but let everything else catch up to that.

I don't seem to be making any weight loss headway this month, at all. Maybe I should stop beating myself up over this and just consider this to be a maintenance month. (After 6 straight months of dieting, my body seems to be asking nicely for a break) ... so, I'm focusing on maintenance this month. (I did bike 20 miles on Sunday), but the weather in December isn't terribly conducive to long bike rides, and I managed to pull a muscle during/after Sunday's ride. Don't worry, I'm still eating healthy. Don't "sweat" it too much. Sometimes the body just stops the dropping of #'s for a little while to catch up and re-focus, so to speak.
When my mom was going through a big weight-loss, she had phases where nothing seemed to be happening for a week or two. It's almost like your body/metabolism is recycling and re-setting to start up again.

I do think that going on vacation, dealing with winter rainstorms and fog, and trying to recover from a muscle strain has all impacted my interest in biking quite so often, this month. So, I shall just focus on (a) eating healthy; (b) biking when I can; and (c) seeking creative and healthy ways to reduce my stress. I've also got some just-acquired books on nutrition and healthy eating that I plan to take time to absorb. Oh, and I just got back from biking 16.2 miles!

I'm being nosy Molly, feel free to ignore. What are you doing regarding Christmas? Is there a special treat you can have a nibble of ? Christmas dinner: lemon herb tofu on a bed of steamed baby bok choy, roasted root vegetables, fresh asparagus, and a salad: romaine, mushrooms, orange pepper, jicama, hearts of palm. We actually packed our lunch and biked to a local park today and picknicked (ham and hummus on light multigrain with romaine, grape tomatoes, 1/2 an apple, and a bag of Plentils lentil chips!) I also had a square of Ghirardelli Raspberry Chocolate (70 calories) while biking. Near the end of our ride, we stopped by a friends house and my wonderful DH had apple pie and I had a yummy piece of ham. We biked 22 miles today ... 48 miles in the last 48 hours.

Ham. Damn, I want ham now. And that picnic lunch. and what the hell, the decent weather to go with it. It's about 45 degrees and sunny here, which is amazing for end of Dec. in SE Wisconsin but still...

I biked 15 miles today ~ brrrrr. It was chilly (even though it was sunny this afternoon) The cold air (and everyone with their fireplaces lit) triggered some asthma in me, so I had to use my fast-acting inhaler once I got home. Dinner was lean sirloin, an Amy's vegetarian shepherd's pie, steamed baby bok choy, some fresh asparagus, and a salad: romaine, jicama, red pepper, mushrooms and hearts of palm. This is a pretty typical dinner for me: lean protein, a "starch", a few cooked veggies, and a big salad. Lots of veggies, as always. My blood sugars have been doing well. Except for today, my asthma has been doing well. My next doctor's appt is January 8 ~ and they'll check my cholesterol and A1c (blood sugar) numbers then. By that point, I'll have been off insulin for two months. January 1 is Thursday, and that marks 7 months of my healthy lifestyle change.

Some days, it's too cold, too hot, or too dark to ride my bike ~ so we went out today and bought an exercise bike that I really liked. This should help with my strengthening and endurance. (My wonderful DH now gets the joy of assembling that sucker!)

I took the word "Diet" out of the title of my thread, because I've given up on "Dieting." DIETS DON'T WORK... and study after study shows that for 95% of people out there, weight intentionally lost through dieting just comes back, with a vengeance, and often brings in reinforcements. I'm living proof of this ... I've dieted, lost, regained, dieted, lost, regained, dieted, lost and regained over the past 30 years so much that I've succeeded only in completely screwing up my metabolism and immune system. I've decided that, going forward, the scale will no longer be a measure of my health, my self-worth, my value as a human being, or something by which I run my life or live in fear of. I am tired of chasing an elusive number ~ whether it be a number on a scale or a number on a clothes tag. So, as 2015 starts, I'm changing my focus. Instead of focusing on my body size, I'm going to focus on choosing healthy behaviors. I am going to continue to choose activities that prioritize my health. This means, for me, I am going to choose to eat a high fiber, low-fat, lean protein and veggie-centric diet most of the time. This means, for me, I'm going to read food labels and choose foods that I believe will help me reach my health goals, and which take into consideration my health restrictions. This means, for me, I am going to choose to get proper sleep. This means, for me, I'm going to choose to get plenty of fresh air and sunshine. This means, for me, I'm going to choose to ride my bike ~ and to get better and stronger at doing it. In short, my plan is to focus on nurturing and nourishing my body and increasing my ODDS for good health, rather than trying to make my body a certain weight or size. I will set goals around which foods I choose to eat. I will set goals around positive habits I choose to form. I choose to focus on my health and let my weight fall where it may.

It's not a diet, its a lifestyle change. I have only dieted per se about 3 or 4 times in my life with success.
I hope this is the last change I have to make.
The amount of food I consumed was a lot, its a wonder I don't weigh twice what I do. If I were not active I would. That's what happened this winter. I put on 10 just sitting around and eating. I can see how Indiana winters do that.
I weighed this morning, I'm just thrilled 189.8, yes I know only a pound or two last week but I love it when I break a 10 pound barrier, so that made me feel good.
We are about ready to leave, haven't eaten yet today and not sure what I want.
Pat Congrats
I have always found 5 or 10 lb marks hard to break AND, t our age, it has become even harder.

I'm not really on a diet; however to see 5 pounds gone wouldn't be a bad thing! Today I went grocery shopping and started my healthy eating regimen (for my face). No cookies, ice cream, cake, red meat. It's actually cheaper to eat healthy! So this is day one of my new eating habits!

Molly's made veggie wraps sound so yummy that I decided to try my own version. I can report that today's was a success in that I thought it was yummy. Not a success in that I'm still hungry and I don't have anything else decent to eat here. I'm going to drink some water and see if that helps. I've been horrible about drinking water the last 6+ months. But I will NOT hit the cops' vending machine for chips today. My wrap was a flour tortilla (bought for a meal previously and I figured I'd use them up before moving to Molly's ones, which I need to order), with about 1.5-2 T of hummus on it. Then 1 slice of herbed turkey lunch meat, jicama, mango salsa and tricolor pepper. I cheated and the jicama, salsa and peppers were already cut but hey, baby steps here. Plus I'm still scared of picking out a jicama. As a bonus, DH thought jicama was yummy too (we experimented with it over the holidays and we'd both had it before) and he was willing to eat the tri color peppers and the mango salsa. He's big into organic foods and I just wanted some cut veggie stuff to make lunch easier. I also brought a bunch of it in to work and I'm set for lunches for a couple of days. Gonna bring in fruit for a snack though - we've got cuties and apples so that's what I'll be snacking on tomorrow. So thank you Molly.

Protein really does help satisfy and make one feel fuller. If you're a chip person, check out the variety pack of Plentils on Amazon (made from Lentils, among other things... nicely tasty and gluten free, non-GMO, etc.) The garlic parmesan, the sour cream/dill and the marghareeta pizza are all nice. Even the plain ones are fine. I like the variety pack because I get these nifty single-serving bags that are super for lunches, taking to work, keeping one in the car, etc. I have only seen them on Amazon, but I really like them. This time of year, you can get nifty bags of Clementine oranges/tangerines in most stores .... they store nicely in the fridge or at room temperature and are great for adding to a lunch or having handy as a snack. (Just peel and eat!)

I biked 17 miles today. It was a teensy bit warmer than yesterday, so I wore a t-shirt instead of a long-sleeve t-shirt .... so I was cold and hot (depending on the sun, and how hard I was pedaling!)

I've also got a pack of Arbonne Essentials fit chews, in the lemon flavor. They look a lot like those peanut butter kiss things I'd get at Halloween as a kid, in the red/orange or black wrappers. The chews are supposed to help suppress appetite. They're tasty too. Supposedly made with healthy things but I admit I haven't actually checked. I am very much a chip person but I think I need to go cold turkey on that for now, at least at work. Retrain myself to make better choices and all that. But I'll keep the Plentils in mind.

I've found that the very best cure for hunger pangs is ..... (wait for it .... wait for it ...) eating more food. Seriously. Just pick nourishing foods that you like, you enjoy, and which are in line with your health goals.
