Last night, I decided to wear something nice to dinner. So I threw on a dress I'd purchased in the Spring. Too big. Into the donate to charity pile. Tried on a second dress. Too big. Into the donate to charity pile, Tried on a third dress. Too big. Into the donate to charity pile. Went foraging in the back of the guest room closet and found a nice dress I'd purchased/worn years ago .... yay! It fit! FINALLY! Added some casual black flats and I was good to go. ( I don't wear dresses very often, as you can see .... but my limited dress supply has dwindled considerably!) It's sort of a nice problem to have, but I will admit that it made me smile last night Just got back from a 15.5 mile bike ride wearing my spiffy new high visibility neon green reflective bike helmet For those of you keeping track of such things, I've now lost 119 pounds.

So far, the most exercise I've gotten today is bringing in the empty trash can from the curb.... and trying to pick up a dropped razor in a shower, LOL. I may push myself a bit and empty all the small inside-the-house trash cans and scoop litterboxes (but I'm pacing myself today, hahahahahaha) OK, I did wash my breakfast dishes (one bowl, one spoon, one cup, and one blender) ~ but I'm pretty sure that burned only .... ummm.... 1 calorie. Great, one calorie .... I can eat a radish! (grin)

1 calorie is more than I'm burning today. It's too cold do anything productive, and when I got to my office this morning, the temp in my office was only 64 degrees!! Now, I admit that was about 60 degrees warmer than outside, but still not warm enough for me to want to do anything besides sit at my desk and drink copious amounts of hot chocolate. So keep up the good work, and keep posting about it, so I can live vicariously through you and your glorious, WARM, sounding bike rides!!

I have raging PMS and hot flashes ~ so it seems like a great time for a bike ride, huh? (snort) I'm hoping to channel all of this hormonal pre-holiday rage into some biking energy ~ but it IS a rather cold and chilly day out there and I'm not sure how long my motivation will last. Maybe by the time I've finished breakfast, I'll have either decided to go this morning ... or I'll have decided to wait for the afternoon? I suppose the suprising part of this is the rather anomalous fact that I tend to lose weight before and during my " time of the month" .... and then my "human sponge" superpowers kick in and I spend the rest of the month dealing with random and haphazard water retention every few days. In any event, I'm quite happy and pleased about how things are going ... and I recognize that it's largely due to biking my butt off fairly often as well as my freakish obsession with leafy green veggies. (Chard, anyone?) I see your spinach and raise you mustard greens, collard greens, turnip greens and ..... baby bok choy! <snort>

Biked 19.5 miles yesterday (17 miles, then another 2.5 miles last night since I wanted to test out my new nifty bike lights!) I'm sore today, LOL ... but plan to bike some this afternoon when it warms up a bit and the fog burns off.
Counting down to December 1 ... I lost another 1.2 pounds ... current weight loss: 126.2 pounds. At this point, things have slowed down in the weight loss department (of course) ... but I'm just curious to see what I can accomplish this month. Last month (October) I lost 18 pounds ... and this month, I've lost 16.2 pounds (so far!) I don't know if that's it for the month or not... I'll just need to be patient and see what the scale holds over the next 5 days, I suppose. My plan is to bike this afternoon, bike some on Thursday morning, then bike again on Sunday (since I'm working Friday and Saturday) at the Petco Adoption Center.
It's a bit amazing to see what can be accomplished in 6 months of healthy eating and riding my bike, isn't it? No fad diets. No weight loss medications. No surgery. 1800 daily calories.... and lots of nutrition.

Biked 16.3 miles Wednesday. Biked 14.0 miles today.
Well, I was remarkably "well behaved" today! I had my standard breakfast this morning, and then we went for a 2-hour bike ride. I came home and my blood sugar was low, so I had 175 calories (turkey and eggplant hummus on light multigrain bread, with romaine) At 3pm, had Thanksgiving "lunch" at a friend's house ... 2 slices of white meat turkey, one scoop of mashed potatoes (no gravy), and an impressive pile of fresh green beans (we brought them) from Whole Foods. Everyone else ate sausage-and-crescent roll hors d'oeuvres, rolls and butter, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, stuffing, cranberry sauce, creamed corn, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and vanilla bean icecream. Oh, and they were all drinking things I couldn't have, either. It was definitely a carbfest for them. Thanksgiving really can be a suckfest for a dieting diabetic.
I'll grab a normal dinner at 7pm (just tested my blood sugars ... they are just fine!) I'm thinking grilled tilapia, more green beans (I brought home all the leftovers since no one else wanted them), roasted butternut squash and a salad.
The scale BETTER move (DOWNWARD!) before Monday! LOL!

Like jicama. Been looking at i for quite a while at my local markes BUT it has been all pock marked. We don't always have it here. When we do, I have to be careful when choosing because it can be kinda "woody". I really miss the nice, fresh jicama that was available in California.

How do you know how to pick a good jicama? I've had it in restaurants and we've seen it in stores but don't know how to pick one.

How do you know how to pick a good jicama? I've had it in restaurants and we've seen it in stores but don't know how to pick one. When I buy them, I look for one with a smooth skin (no bruises and no shriveling), not too large but heavy and firm.

Today was a lovely day.... my wonderful DH took a "leave day" from work and we spent it together. First, we went to see a movie (Mockingjay) that I've been wanting to see. (I was very good ~ no popcorn, just some sugarless gum!) Then we went to lunch at Pismo's Coastal Grill. I had the pistachio-encrusted calimari (hold the beurre blanc) with roasted cauliflower and sweet potato hash .... it was divine! Then we headed home for a 2-hour autumn bike ride and we did 15 miles. The rain started up again JUST as we pulled into the driveway .... yay! Now we're making dinner .... I'm having smoked salmon and lowfat cottage cheese, roasted celeriac, steamed kaleidoscope chard with mushrooms, grilled asparagus, and a salad: romaine, jicama, hearts of palm and red pepper. YUM! Thanks for all the encouragement.
