The privacy issue I have is where does it stop, do they now publish a list of the guns that each person owns. How many they purchased this year, last year etc. Can employers use this information when hiring? We don't hire pro-gun people, or people who might walk into the office and shoot people. Can we get a public list from the DMV? I would like all the information of every person in IL that has a drivers license along with their personal info. You already can. It is not a "list" persay but you can request info under the freedom of information act. And they have the right to charge you for each one. This is why backround check companies make so much money. The info is already out there you just have to know where to look and be willing to pay. It's not that easy, you have to have a valid reason to get the info dmv.ca.gov/forms/inf/inf70.htmBesides driving is not a right.

Guess the illegal guns they bring in can't be on this list, huh?

I don't need a reason to get public information. I just need the time and money to keep requesting it.
Just to say I don't think all this info on people is right that it is public and people have no recourse but it is a matter of public record and the pubicc has the right to see it. My sister used to work for a big company that did backround checks on future high level or bonded type employees.

They shouldn't be allowed to have the list, because the last people that should know where the guns are is the government.

All what info? As far as I can tell, the AG wants a list of names. I haven't seen any mention of parentage, political affiliation, annual income, number of pets owned, size of family ... none of that. She's only asked for names. By law, you have to have a card to have a gun. The cops have a list of those who have permission to have them. The government does have the right to do that, apparently, in Illinois. Just because you say something, that doesn't make it true.

The government, for the most part, doesn't even know I'm alive, as an individual. The only time they're the least bit interested in me is when taxes are due. Then, it's the taxes they want. They don't really care who's paying them, and they don't really know me. I'm just not all that important. While, IMO, most members of government are self-centered and greedy, they're not out to get little me.

OK, one more time. The AG wants a list of names TO BE MADE PUBLIC. Not just for her own information, she wants everyone to have access to the list. Do you see the difference?

No the AG wants to make the list public - law enforcement has the right to verify that someone in possession of a weapon has an FOID card - either by the person in question showing their card- or by running the name thru the Il State Police. The public has no "right" to know - or they didn't until now - Lisa Madigan knows already

Releasing that info (even a name) goes against privacy laws.

It's not a bad 'ruling' all things considered (I personally was unaware that the AG's office had the power to make 'rulings' but I digress). Now it will be next to impossible to refuse a request to make public a list of people getting any kind of aid from the state.

No, I'm a South Carolina gun owner and I still don't think the government is out to get me, state, or federal.

I can't defend the police against releasing it. As an attorney that's her job I get that. That's why something else has to happen.

I'd love to know if that loose cannon has a gun!

Nope. They're talking about letting everyone have them with virtually no restrictions. That's ever so much better! NOT!

A list like this would only let you know if he bought it legally. If he really is a nut, you have more to worry about...

He's not that kind of nut. He'd go out and buy it legally. Then, if he got his knickers in a knot, he'd use it without compunction. No impulse control.

Can they bring that law to New York? And if so, who can I bribe to let all thugs, rapists and hoodlums know I possess a 357 Magnum, a full-automatic machine gun and armor piercing rounds. Advertisement pays. Get Some

Never fear, the machine guns and the criminals will find a way to stay in the darkness where they live. It's just the law abiding citizens, the dangerous regular people who will be exposed.

Where, exactly, did I say anything about wanting to waive your rights? (A wave occurs in the ocean ... or at a sports event)
