She willingly chose to put herself on his level. That was completely and solely her call. She could have thought "You know what, he's twice my size and has arms the size of my legs... if I match him, I could get hurt... I don't think I'll risk it"... and if she had... nothing would have happened. Sorry. This one's on her. I couldn't disagree more, Richard. Just because someone half my size decides to make an arse of herself doesn't mean that gives me the right to damage (and, possibly, kill) that person. I have responsibility for MY responses. If there's something else I can do to stop the nonsense, that's what I'm responsible to do. You don't just annihilate whatever gets in your damned way. Use your head before you use your fists. You're welcome to your opinion, but I'll maintain mine. It's served me well for 72 years. If I can avoid trouble, I do so. I agree it doesn't give you the right to damage or kill them... but it does giv you the right to stop their attack by whatever means necessary. In a confined space (such as an elevator) "leaving" was not an option. How else do you suggest stopping an attack is leaving is NOT an option? I suggest "render the attacker unconscious".

And the hits just keep coming..... Adrian Peterson, running back for the Minnesota Vikings was arrested for beating his four year old with a switch (tree branch). Released on bond and the Vikings have announced he will not be playing Sunday.
And pray tell all you experts out there, what is his proper penalty he must publicly pay the American jury? Can Roger Goodell save his own job by banning him for a year? Should he ban him? If I remember correctly he had some incident last year, but I am not sure it was with his son.

As far as I'm concerned, this guy needs to feel the same pain. He should never play again for any team. Expertise is not necessary. The child was 4 years old. That's all I need to know.

Really, Shooby - you should spend some time talking to women who've spent time fleeing and then staying in an emergency shelter for abused women after escaping the abuse with little more than the clothes on their back. 99% of the time the man is the aggressor, and has close to twice the power of his punching bag - plus more height & weight behind those fists. I think it's deplorable how you can be so flippant about domestic violence of any kind, just because your life is "perfect" and you've never had to live through it.

I have not seen the pictures. I do not need to. I am asking what should be done to him, by who, and why. He should feel the pain? Now you sound like a middle Eastern citizen and believe in stoning. I do not believe in stoning, or an actual eye for an eye Biblical procedure. Too much like revenge, imo. The NFL is not the government. Leave it up to the government and the courts. The head of the NFL IS NOT A LEGAL AUTHORITY who knows all correct legal procedures, and should not be held accountable to enforce these strict penalties, and then be hounded to resign if a few malcontents do not think the punishment does not fit the crime. Let the individual teams do the penalty, and if they do not do an appropriate one, then it is up to the NFL Commissioner and other owners to bring economic hammer down on the team. I also would like to see speedy justice. No case should take more than a month to come to the court.

Posters here keep talking about how she attacked him first. As I mentioned in the other thread, it looked to me like he spit on her as she walked past him in the garage. He definitely quickly moved his head toward her before she swatted at him.
Same thing in the elevator. TO ME, it looked like her swinging was a reaction to whatever he was doing when his head jutted out (spitting???). That's what I noticed on the video and so did other people I know IRL.
If that's what was really happening, its not fair to keep saying she attacked him, like he was an innocent party.

What he did was child abuse. He didn't seem to see any wrong in it, so I imagine it's not the first time. He should have his arse thrown in jail and be forbidden to ever be around children. That's a start. As for playing football again, I don't believe he should ever play again. The example he sets isn't one that should be set by a public figure, I don't care how well he plays. We'll see what happens to him by law if the mother of the child files charges. That's not something I'm going to prognosticate. As to stoning, the only person who's mentioned that is you. Hyperbole much?

I think Shooby is in agreement that Rice was wrong in what he did, SL. Very wrong.

Thanks Steff, my memory failed me on this. I knew it had to do with a child, but could not remember what had happened. Now this begs a bigger question. We know in the black community, there is a lot of physical spankings, almost beatings. Yes, I now it happens in white families too. Maybe whites are just sneakier about it. In the inner cities it goes unnoticed or under reported. Please do not call me racist. Most know or "think" this goes on. Cities that become racially integrated that were basically white have a high incident of calls to black families where the parents "are teaching there children respect and right from wrong", who "never had the police arrive at their home when they lived in a black community".

Sorry, VB, but that's fallacy. I've worked enough ERs to know the divide between white families and black families in which this sort of abuse occurs is pretty even. Some of the worst I've seen have been in white families.

Just do court ordered "no contact order" the speedy trial, and immediate sentencing without 60 days to get his affairs in order.
One more thought. We all know this starts in College when the players are pampered, not forced to actually go to class, party all year and are protected by the University. This is where we have to stop the behavior.

Hyperbole much? The mother isn't even the one who reported it. The child's doctor in Minnesota reported it. The child was with Peterson on visitation when it happened. After the child returned home to Minnesota in late May, the mother took the son to his previously scheduled doctor appointment and the doctor that examined the child said the injuries were consistent with child abuse and that it appeared the child had injuries from one incident involving a “switch” and another incident possibly involving a cord. Authorities in Minnesota referred the case to the Houston Police Department to investigate. During the investigation, authorities determined that the incident did not take place on Woodway Drive in Houston, as originally believed, but instead in Spring, Texas, which is in the Montgomery County jurisdiction. houston.cbslocal.com/2014/09/12/exclusive-details-on-adrian-peterson-indictment-charges/the link is a very detailed article about the entire thing.

I suggest spin her, pin her arms to her sides and walk her off the damned elevator. He's plenty big and strong enough to do just that. Ohhh so she could bash her head into him and continue the attack... or kick back one of her heels and smash his "Family jewels"... or stomp on the top of his foot and possibly break his arch... good plan. Not. I still suggest "render her unconscious".

I personally think this is the beginning of the end for the NFL. The left never loses a target once they've locked on to it. They're going to screw it up someway some how. They'll figure out how to dumb it down, grade on a curve, and basically make it about as uninteresting as their favorite sport- soccer.

Paul is absolutely right. Liberalism can take facts or situations and literally paint them to be anything that suits their agenda. Punching a cop in the face and accosting a clerk in a convenience store = good. Wife beating = bad, but they aren't sooo concerned about Ray Rice but about punishing the NFL and trying to discredit football which is the REAL agenda. why would liberals want to punish the NFL? Because the NFL didn't bow down and obey the dear leader and abandon the Redskins name. Because football is a game won by the fastest, and the strongest, and it rakes in hundreds of billions of dollars a year from people who like to watch the very best compete. Anyway- I think I've already covered this pretty well.

She was no threat to him. Her attacks were spitting and open-handed hitting. He's a damn NFL player for crying out loud- he's been hit harder with towels in the locker room. You can defend yourself against a woman if she poses a real threat, but you don't hit a hysterical woman having a hissy fit. You walk away.

When a majority of former players are having memory & other brain injury issues there's clearly a problem. when the ones who can't handle it commit suicide, they know not to shoot themselves in the head because their brains will be studied, there's a problem. When someone like Jim McMahon can barely remember his name much less that he was a SuperBowl winning qb, there's a problem.

Like many liberals, you're not. You just think you are. You're not going to last over there on the left. You're going to get a George Zimmerman, Juan Williams kind of a wake up call at some point. Nope, I was raised in a Red state, but in a nice little Liberal corner of it. I'm so strongly pro-woman, pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-gay rights, anti-religion that I'm not going to be swayed to the religious politics that the Southern Republicans sell. The Southern Pubs aren't going to give up their religious politics and this Liberal bitch ain't buying into it.
