Zib Good Luck
I don’t know where you live but O is the MOST common blood type. AB (which I am) is the rarest. However, there are MANY additional factors they test for to get a good match.
I see many young idiots out there every day, riding motorcycles w/o a helmet. This is the season for that.
yes, after best match they do triage recipeints at least in metro Chicago which, I believe covers the greater mid-west states. Sickest w/best chance(s) of a good outcome go first.

My MOM was AB neg which was even rarer. In the 50s she was able to sell her blood for $70 a month and it paid for her apt in Chicago so she didnt have to have a roommate. Which was good because she played her instruments at all hours. Bet her neighbors were thrilled. Not.
as far as I know about transplants, the 1a group gets first crack because they're closer to death but not too close. DF will get monitored every month, tested actually, to see how he is worsening. He can't get too bad or they won't do it. It's a balancing act, for sure. Right now with his permanent IV he is still able to function. We sat next to a guy that got his transplant, number 34 at our hospital, who was a day or two from dying. He's doing great now. But the blood types, proteins, and heart size have to match. Him being skinny is a huge asset. He could move up the list faster than someone who needs a larger heart.

Thanks guys. I had zero energy yesterday and am still tired today but not sleepy. So I'm going to organize some more. Rainy day doesn't help my energy issues. Crap, I need to take my iron. Forgot.

It's such a load off. I wonder if people jump through all these hoops and don't make the list? Do they tell you before your insurance spends about 200k on the preliminaries?

Some people just don't make the list, but the insurances have case managers who are aware of the efforts made to move patients to the transplant lists, so the preliminaries are paid for. In the case of bone marrow transplants, for example, sometimes a patient has to receive extensive "conditioning" (chemo or radiation) to get their leukemias beaten down far enough so that the transplant will "take". It's expensive, of course, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, but as long as the institution makes sure that the treatments are pre-authorized, the treatments are covered. Of course, the poor patients still have to cope with extensive copays because there are so many bills, but sometimes the social worker can also get them covered on Medicaid. It's amazingly complex.

After all the payments and some bad stuff on the part of DFs insurance company, he's pretty glad to be "in his mind" sticking it to them! Bad DF!

He does. It takes a lot to get his goat but when it finally happens, it isn't pretty. Something you'd think his ex would have remembered.

That would be awesome for you and your DF Zib. Sad for the original owner though. But prayers are said for you all.

It is sad for original owner. I'm grateful that someone made the ultimate sacrifice so another could live.
