I want to know how people remember what the heck they learned in grade school. I remember doing a report on Chile as my big 8th grade project. I honestly couldn't tell you what else I learned in school, versus just learned in various ways. How do you guys remember?

If you had a great teacher I think you remember. If not, not so much.

If you had a great teacher I think you remember. If not, not so much. Maybe. What makes a great teacher in grade school?

I don't know. For me I guess it was teachers that would engage you and show you that learning can be fun. You did not have any of that in grade school?

the holocaust was taught in school when I went, at least an overview of it, like most of the history that was taught in secondary school.
What was not mentioned- The subjugation of the American Indian, the Trail of Tears, Sherman's march through Georgia, interment of the Japanese Americans in WWII, the German American Bund in WWII, I could go on and on. School history is usually taught from the political view of the state, more or less. To that end the Rape of Nanking was not taught in Japanese schools either. I am shocked at what people were NOT taught in school. Where did you all go to school at? I went to school in Michigan and I was taught all of this stuff. Was it an in depth analysis? No. I didn't learn the in depth stuff until college. As far as a teacher refusing to teach the curriculum, that is grounds for firing or to be removed from a classroom and placed in a different position. Even tenured teachers can face disciplinary action for refusing to teach the curriculum. Where did you all go to school at? I tried to let it go... I really did. But back in my day, a teacher would have failed a student that ended a sentence in a preposition. (That's where I went to school!)

Eh' Whatever. If it made you feel better, awesome! As far as ending a sentence with a preposition, it is not necessarily incorrect. It really isn't a rule of the modern English language. According to many grammar sites, it is one of the biggest grammar myths.

It's very popular to be anti-Semitic now. College campuses abound with it. Public school abound with it. We're so afraid of the crazies that we bend over backwards to accommodate them. Not realizing, of course, that to them, this shows we are weak and frightened, which we are, so they just keep on doing what they're doing. Very sad.

That was kind of my point. You asked " Where did you all go to school at?" I "corrected" you the way that I did to prove the point that different schools teach/taught different things. And some things may even have evolved (such as the English Language), over time. It's no "grammar myth" (contrary to what some modern websites may wish to report). It was a rule in my English book that we had to know. It may not be taught NOW, but it was taught THEN, back where and where I went to school, using state approved textbooks. So... the whole point is: Different schools in different times teach different things.

Other than just harassing me, why don't you read the newspaper or watch what happens on college campuses? Campuses that some Jewish parents and others mortgage their homes to send their kids to. Have you ever heard of the university of Michigan? How about you go and read up on what they are doing to make Jews feel welcome? How about you read up on the speakers they have on campus and the rallies they have? They aren't the only campus doing this. The backwards south that you like to slam on, doesn't welcome hate groups on campus, especially hate groups that are obviously meant to stir up hatred toward one group. Why don't you understand what some moron "stars" say, like they know anything about politics, but open their yaps anyway? Do you seriously not read or understand what you read when you do read? Just spend time here harassing others and wanting them to prove shit to you. Read a frickin newspaper, for crying out loud.

I have had a problem understanding at times the Israeli position, their treatment regarding the Palastinians ...both those in the West Bank and also Gaza . Naturally I get my impressions from what I read in media sources and I read many Arab sources as well as Israeli sources..
I have wondered at times if the perceived harsh actions and perceived treatment of Arabs...I am thinking those on the West bank now..is just because they, the Israeli's , can ...or is there a actual logical reason for it...The wall that has been built..that I can now understand...it seems to have done, for the most part , the job it was designed for..the indiscriminate bombings of civiliens ..while not in the thousands that the Iraquis have suffered in dead and maimed, still , hundreds of Israeli's have been killed and maimed..Arabs too caught in these attacks..and for the most part those attacks have been ended with the walls construction..Even that the wall was placed a bit on the Palastinians side of what ever..with so little land ..every inch valuable..while not fair possible, I can understand Israeli doing so, figuring if a peace ever realy in place these land border infractions would be settled too.
The blockade of gaza I do have a problem with though now it's been shown that cement..one of the items not allowed into the strip..has been used by the ton in shoring up the tunnels that were built to give access into Israel for raids and kidnapping. So here it seems the Israeli's were correct in how this item would be used..against them...Possible other items too, though I also think that many items are banned by the I9sraselis just because they can..a little bit of twisting the ole ..you get it.
I can go on and list numerouse points that it seems the Israelies have done that I may question ...yet it comes down to the fact as I heard just the other day , the wants of the Palastinians as said by one of the leaders of Hamas who lives outside the area..for his own safety by the way..there has been no change..they want the right to have the decendents of the refugees ..who number 10 million today..decended from the 800,000 original ones given the right to go back to their ancesteral homes..{There are approximately 6 million Jews living in Israel...plus over a million Israeli arabs...} and lets face it...that is never going to happen or be agreed to..Even if 25 % of the 10 million wanted to go back...it would be a disaster...So my problem is while I disagree with many of the policies of the Israeli government treatment and attitude toward the Palastinians..when it comes down to it..what do I really know about the true situation here...
As far as the civilian casualties that were suffered by those living in Gaza...my life experience is I have experienced war and realize shit happens when one is in a war ..and one is innocents are killed and maimed..many times more then the actual combatents...also that combatents also use civiliens to mask their own strategys and the civiliens really have no way to protest these actions..thus you get munitions placed in schools, mosques, tunnels in civilian areas..
Then again, when you have unemployment running at 50 % or more of young people..no hope for improvements..perceived abuse of parents and siblings by another..then what we get of say three innocent teens from one group being murdered by other youngsters which set this whole thing off, and a reprisal of another senseless brutal killing by six from the other side..how can one not think such things will happen.

While I dislike and abhor the death of innocent children, the hostilities between Hamas-led Gaza and Israel will end when the people of Gaza finally understand Hamas has never had their best interests at heart. If Hamas did, they would not hide their weaponry in and around residential areas and school.
Having said that, feuds between nationalities around the world have been going on since time immemorial. I don't see it stopping any time soon in Gaza and Israel which is tragic all the way around.

Woah Zib, time out! Imo that was a reasonable question. There is no visible anti-Semitic activity in my neck of the woods either, which is why I asked a question similar to that some time back.
I had to Google U Mich Jewish issues to get a clue too. It seems there is a very large Jewish population at UM, and there is also a Pro-Palestinian group there as well. They clash. There were some nasty things said. Death threats even. Is that what you refer to?
Of course that is not right. Personal threats, insults, violence, etc. should not be condoned, and it seems are being addressed.
At the same time, the Palestinian Israeli issue is a legitimate topic of discussion, and there is plenty of room for legitimate- and non-hateful- disagreement on it. It is a horrific situation, with no solution in sight. Many Americans support Israel, many support the Palestinians, and I believe a majority "don't know". that doesn't necessarily make any of them anti-Semitic.
i notice a lot of "parallel universe" posts here. some days, i question my own sanity.
