Say whaaaat? I love it! Do it! Well, first, I gotta get over this cold I brought home from Alaska- my nose is all red and itchy, which makes me wonder what you do in such situations when it's pierced- remove the stud for a few days?
I do have some lovely little diamond stud earrings so one of them would be perfect. I even have a pair of 1/4-carat ones for special occasions!
Just verified with nose pierced daughter that noses use a different style of jewelry than ears.

Just verified with nose pierced daughter that noses use a different style of jewelry than ears. Yes, this is true. I have diamond stud earrings and I have a pair of 1/4 carat ones, even if you could wear them in your nose they're way too big (for my preference). Even if you'd like big jewels, there's jewelry specifically for nose piercing. The main differences are the stem isn't as long, some of them have a teeny tiny ball on the end to keep the ring in place, some have a bend-to-fit stem. Those are the kinds I'm most familiar with. They also are usually made to sit more flush on the nose, earrings have larger mounts for the jewels. That's the little bit I know about the differences.

Blue jeans, comfy shirt, cardigan, tennis shoes. I have a good haircut and pretty silver hair. I have clothes to dress up in if I need to, but I need to do that less and less often. I'll have to get some new clothes for our trip to Florida.

@pinkcshmere those ladies inspire me too!!! I'm am trying to move my style towards their level but I'm a long way off. I do have some pieces I just love but I have been putting on weight like crazy lately (I'm going to get my thyroid checked) and I can't wear them.
In the last few years I purposely incorporated dresses and skirts into my work wardrobe, at least one a week. If my clothes are more bland I try to wear some statement type jewellery. These days I am working on incorporating dresses and skirts into my off work wardrobe as well and not just default to jeans or capris. I go from fitted pencil skirts to flowing maxi skirts, jeggings to wide leg pants, tank tops to silky blouses. I asked my assistant to describe my style and she said comfortable. When I asked for an explanation she said I look put together but I'm never pulling at my clothes. My mom can't tell me what my style is called but she can tell you the type of stuff I would buy and wear. I would like to think I'm headed towards bohemian chique. I have red hair with some blonde pieces blended in and one dragonfly tattoo on my shoulder.

I have some sort of style. My signature is my big, colorful necklaces so I tend to wear a lot of black and keep the focus on the jewelry. Today I'm wearing black pants, green cardigan, black tank, and a long strand of light blue beads. My favorite necklace is a huge turquoise piece. I also have an apple slice I wear that gets a lot of questions.
I usually wear pants to work but in the summer I wear more dresses and skirts (shift and pencil).
Daily life, I live in skinny or straight jeans.
I've kept the weight I lost off for two years so I feel safe going a little crazy with shopping.

I hate shopping. For work I wear business casual, so typically dress pants and a nice shirt or cardigan. When not working I'd call my style athletic casual (I think I just made up that term). I've just realized one reason I can't leave New England is that I wear mostly black!

I am pretty sure I don't dress my age at all
Don't get me wrong- I'm not in anything inappropriate but I probably don't dress like how a nearly 39 year old is "supposed" to dress. IDK
Today- Blue jeans- fitted but not skinny jeans and not mom jeans faded Rolling Stones concert t-shirt bright pink Converse sneakers.
Yesterday- skinny jeans ballet flats red and white stripped short sleeved sweater
I work for a construction company and they couldn't care less what I wear. So long as I have on long pants and closed shoes (because I do have to walk outside and on jobsites from time to time) whatever else is fine with them.
I used to be much more conservative. Only solid colored shirts, same Born loafers every day, etc. Since I've lost nearly 100 lbs I've expanded my style quite a bit and wear some patterned shirts, V-necks, etc. But I'm still what you would call "casual" most days. I also work in construction and while I love the ability to dress down without anyone being unhappy with it, I also miss having a work wardrobe that is different from my off time wardrobe. When I worked at the other site, I was able to wear skirts if I wanted and as long as I wasn't in open toe shoes or sky high heels, I could wear dressier shoes. Now I'm in the middle of the plant and feel more constrained. I do occasionally wear ballet flats but I can't remember the last time I didn't wear some kind of jeans to work. And I also don't dress my age (46) but I'm very conscious of being age appropriate - I don't want to be frumpy soccer mom but also don't want to look like I'm trying to dress like I'm still in my 20's. Any outfit or clothing item I think might put me in either category I run by my daughters who either give me a thumbs up or down. Of course, that means one or both get dragged with me whenever I want to go shopping for new clothes..........poor girls. I'm trying to upgrade my style a bit and have been spending a lot of time on Polyvore and Pinterest looking for age appropriate outfits to emulate. I'm mostly drawn to the ones with skinny jeans, a nice t-shirty type top (not always t-shirt material) with either a sweater or light blazer and ballet flats. More of a classic preppy look I guess. I've also noticed that 90% of what I like on Polyvore is from British clothing companies or way out of my budget so I have to hunt for similar items at my bargain stores but it still helps to have those sets to work from. ETA: I keep my hair, makeup, and jewelry simple. I color my hair just to cover the gray and wear minimal makeup. Jewelry I like to keep classic and simple but I do love dangly earrings. I really miss my earring collections from the 80's. I didn't wear the really big ones that nearly covered your ear but I had several pairs that hung nearly to my shoulders. I was so happy when I started seeing those again a year or two back and am always looking for new ones to go with clothes I already have. I never wear my rings any more and only have one or two necklaces that I will wear if only if I'm wearing plain hoops or studs. Uggh.............this thread is making me want to say to hell with building my EF and vacation savings and hit the stores this weekend. I need new clothes and a new job that I can dress nicer for.

First of all - I'd love to see the pics you are talking about it
And second of all - I have no style. I am still crazy fat from having all those damn kids, so I still wear maternity shirts and my mom's pants
But!! Once I loose the weight, I am going to start a thread on fashion and suggestions on what is "in" and what is not to get general idea what I can keep from my old clothes.
Hopefully, the board is still around by the time I am ready.

I taught PE so I wore shorts and shirts ALL THE TIME. I loved our schools holiday party because I could dress up. It used to shock the other teachers that I was actually a GIRL!!! But in my favor I wore VS undergarments under my shorts and tops!

These aren't the exact pictures I had, I can't find them. But they were from this blog I think advancedstyle.blogspot.ca/. The wonderful thing about these women is they don't worry about what's "in". They wear what makes them feel good.

michelyn8- I think if we meet in person we would have the same basic style. That's pretty much what I've been pinning lately too. I try for more of the Pants/cute top options but the reality is I'm probably more of the jeans type.
I have two more years here until Dear old Dad retires and I move on down the road. I am hoping to find a job with a real company- female co-workers and everything- that will require me to put more effort into my clothes. Don't get me wrong- I still style my hair and wear make up but it's hard to get excited about a new outfit when it is completely wasted on the guys I work with. Closest any of them have come to ever commenting on my clothing was to tease me that my converse sneakers didn't have safety toes.
I also have a bit more weight to lose and then it's on like freaking donkey kong!!!! Currently all of my clothes come from Old Navy because they fit and I fit in to the regular women sizes. Plus I'm still losing weight so I don't want to buy expensive things to only have them fit me for a month or two. I've been saving up my dietbet winnings- I have close to $500 set aside for the eventual "Goal Weight" shopping spree. Maybe by then I'll be able to develop a sense of style.
I plan to go to the nicer store and paraphrase Kristin Wiig from Bridesmaids'- I'm going to throw myself on the mercy of the sales clerk and say "Help me, I'm frumpy!!!"

I wear a dress to work almost every day in varying shades of black, grey, blue, cream and white. Today I'm actually wearing dress trousers and a white blouse with tiny little blackbirds all over it - I think it's cute!
I'm much more schlumpy away from the office and I really need to smarten up my casual appearance. I'm struggling to lose about 10 pounds and feel frumpy, which doesn't help.

Oblivious. Mostly T-shirts and shorts or jeans. The things I get complimented on, my mom usually picked out for me, and are things that are not practical for being with an oozy baby all the time. The shorts are a new addition. They tend to be shorter than I think they ought (And often tighter...) because my husband is advising me on which shorts to wear. I do not have a "show your legs" body, but my sympathy for the public that's forced to see my legs is tempered by my spouse's appreciation.

At work I would call my style generic middle aged office drone.
At home, I'm either crazy cat lady or sweaty dust bowl migrant worker, depending on whether I'm working in the house or in the garden.
I wouldn't say I gave up being fashionable when I hit middle age, because that would imply I was fashionable, at some younger age, and that would be a lie.

And I think I'm gonna get my nose pierced. I want to do it too!! My uber conservative husband almost fainted when I told him that. When I told my parents, they couldn't speak for a few minutes. We'll see what happens I did a search on e-Bay and yes, I can see that nose studs are very different from those meant for ears. Fortunately they're not very expensive even though I'd want to stick with 14K yellow gold, since any metal with nickel is an irritant for me when I wear earrings.
DH is fine with it. We're both a little off the wall in our own ways and we like it. I had a battle royal with my parents as a teenager when I wanted my ears pierced (we're talking late 1960s). They're 3rd-generation Americans (European descent) and to them it was "old country". I'll see them at Christmas and the deed might be done by then. I don't think they need to sign a permission slip! They also know I'm a little off the wall. They'll get over it.

The style that I most want and try to emulate (but generally fail on) is Helen Mirren's character in Prime Suspect. Her style in that show was sloppy, tailored, classic, a touch on the masculine side, and soft all at the same time. I would like to BE Helen Mirren when I grow up.

My typical summer work attire is golf shorts, fly-fishing or tropical print shirt, Keen slides (indoor day) or Darn Tough 3/4 socks and Keen light hikers (outdoor day), appropriately colored ball cap worn backwards on the back of my head, and sunglasses from my collection of about twenty different colors/styles.

Why am I suddenly picturing Dennis the Menace?? Must be the attitude because no red overalls, striped shirt, tennis shoes, or out of control yellow hair.

... ]I do have to ask out of curiosity, how do you like the Darn Tough socks? I'm a smartwool gal myself, but I was looking around and liked some of the designs of the DTs. I have some of both. The Darn Tough logo is similar to one we use here at work so I tend towards them for that simple reason.
