Right around the time I decided I was tired of being boring, laterbloomer posted some pictures of some older ladies that had great style. Someone else posted pictures of more stylish older women, and some of the styles were quirky but the ladies looked great imo. I don't remember what the thread was about, but I was honestly inspired by the pictures and figured if those ladies don't have to be boring, neither do I. So I've been slowly making changes, some of which I've mentioned around here. So far I've: Cut a lot of my hair off and dyed it a dark wine-ish color. I have highlights and they turned a bit lighter (brighter?) than I wanted, but now that I've gotten use to it I like it. Bought some clothes that aren't neutral colors (I have SOOO many white shirts lol), some even have patterns! I've also bought some things that made DD ask "What made you buy THAT" because it's so far from my norm. I still don't wear revealing clothes though. Well, I do wear fitted pants and jeans and kind of short shorts but that's nothing new. I actually wear my new glasses more than I wear my contacts. I mostly only wear my contacts if I go out. My Mom can't believe it. For 30 years, I've refused to come out of the house in glasses (seriously) and now I wear them all the time. They're still thicker than I'd like, but I like them anyway and I don't really care anymore. I went through another make-up phase and mostly abandoned it. I do wear eyeliner and mascara more regularly now (especially since I started wearing my glasses) and I wear lipstick that has a bit more color to it. Mostly small changes, but my attitude has changed drastically (thanks laterbloomer!). I don't feel like I have to be so conservative or blend in anymore. I haven't done (or plan to do) anything permanent like tatoos, but I still have a nose ring. Fortunately for me, as long as I'm not half-naked or presenting a safety hazard, I don't have to look a certain way for work. When I went to work after I dyed my hair, one of my coworkers told me "I don't know what I'm going to do with you". I laughed and told her "I don't even know what I'm going to do with myself. Maybe they think I'm having an empty nest mid-life crisis. Maybe I am. LOL! But it's fun. I'm still pulling together my new look. Do you have a "look"? I know many of you have professional jobs, but do you add a bit of fun to your appearance? If you do, how?

My look right now is frazzled. I'll get back to you when it improves.

I'm known for my shoes. I have more pairs of shoes than one person probably has any business owning and not a single pair is the same. I coordinate my outfits a lot of times to which pair of shoes I plan to wear.
Part of the sucky thing about being pregnant is the majority of my shoes are out of commission, I can't walk in heels right now!
I wear a lot of blazers/jackets which I consider to be my "finishing piece", which is the part of the outfit that makes me feel like it's complete. I own way too many of those as well.
DH calls my look "weirdo" but I'd probably consider it more eclectic/dramatic depending on my mood. Other times I shift more towards feminine/classical.

My look is Coco Chanel and Jackie Kennedy. Simple and classic styles. No prints, maybe a small polka dot, but otherwise solid colors. Higher necklines and definitely sleeves. Simple shoes as well, no heels anymore.
Here's a facebook page I like "fiftynotfrumpy" that pretty well suits me.

I think my style would be described as lack of. Generally ankle length skirts & tee shirts.

I'm excitedly awaiting for "vantablack" to make it to clothing. Finally a darker shade of black.

Unless I'm outside, I dress nicely. DF was married to a schlump and no way do I ever want to emulate that.

I am pretty sure I don't dress my age at all
Don't get me wrong- I'm not in anything inappropriate but I probably don't dress like how a nearly 39 year old is "supposed" to dress. IDK
Today- Blue jeans- fitted but not skinny jeans and not mom jeans faded Rolling Stones concert t-shirt bright pink Converse sneakers.
Yesterday- skinny jeans ballet flats red and white stripped short sleeved sweater
I work for a construction company and they couldn't care less what I wear. So long as I have on long pants and closed shoes (because I do have to walk outside and on jobsites from time to time) whatever else is fine with them.
I used to be much more conservative. Only solid colored shirts, same Born loafers every day, etc. Since I've lost nearly 100 lbs I've expanded my style quite a bit and wear some patterned shirts, V-necks, etc. But I'm still what you would call "casual" most days.

I do have to look decent for work, but it's all outfits that are easy to throw together. I have basic bottoms (black and khacki), black shoes, and tops. Some plain, some with prints, stripes, etc. No heels for me. I don't know how folks run after kids in heels. I'm now at the point, for the first time in 10 years, that I can consider wearing necklaces and dangle earrings. I'm also now, at a point where more days than not, I won't get kid gunk (snot, remnants of meals, dirt, etc) smeared over my legs. I'm also at a funny place now. I'm too big for large normal sizes, but too small for plus women clothing. I'm hoping to change that at some point, since I feel a mid-life crisis coming on. We also generally skimp on wardrobe. I don't look at clothes shopping as being fun. I missed that gene. Just how we prefer to balance our budget. ETA: I don't really do make up, and DH actually prefers that. I bought some awesome moisturizer that combats wrinkles. One of my clients said I looked younger now than I did a few years ago. I think she's right.

Here's a facebook page I like "fiftynotfrumpy" that pretty well suits me. I've been drawn to simple, classic styles for most of my adult life. Clean lines, no bright colors and no prints. My best friend has been calling me Plain Jane since I was in my early 20's. I preferred to think of it as classy. Now I'm getting away from that, though I do still prerfer clean lines. Just one more thing in my live I'm doing backwards! Lol

My style varies depending on the situation/environment/surroundings.
I can be blue jeans, denim shirt or T-shirt - or open denim shirt OVER T-shirt . T-shirt can be white, or bright color.
I also do business-exec, and business-casual - for a more professional setting. And evening chic if needed.
Out of all, I prefer the jeans/T-shirt or denim shirt - or shorts, etc.
I used to wear subdued colors more than bright, but I'm starting to add more color to my clothing. Still a lot of pastels, but adding colors like (baby) pink, sunshine yellow, teal, baby blue, etc.
One change I'm going to do VERY soon also is same as Pink Cashmere - I'm going to change my hair-color, probably get highlights, and maybe even a new style/cut altogether - a new me. I've had long hair forever - I'm thinking of going shoulder-length.
Also new/different shades of cosmetics - (shadows, blush, lip color).
When DH passed away, I sort of stopped worrying about wardrobe/fashion so much and now I'm ready for a re-birth with a new look.

I am a clothes and shoe lover!!! Quite big on fashion too I lean towards clean and fitted styles. I love color. I wear a lot of dresses and skirts. During summers, I love wearing sheath dresses, pencil skirts or A-line skirts with strappy sandals and summer cardigans for work, and printed casual dress and maxi dresses outside of work. With trousers I prefer clean cut and fitted blouses. No disoriented blouses, hanging tail sweaters etc for me. Winters are sweater dresses with knee high boots, pants with coordinated sweaters/blouses, pencil skirts with leggings and ankle boots etc. I also wear coordinated jewelry. Rule of thumb for me is to wear no more than two jewelry pieces. I keep a no fuss hairstyle though. I have a lot of hair, though they are fine and straight and auburn in color. So I keep them shoulder length, razor cut.

Posting on my phone is a PITA. Grrr
Sheila, I love it! "Dressing my age" is one of the things I wrestled with for a long time. What exactly are the rules??
As long as I'm not exposing things best left covered, dressing inappopriately for the situation or occasion or looking silly for some other reason, I don't much care about the rules anymore.

I'm excitedly awaiting for "vantablack" to make it to clothing. Finally a darker shade of black. I only own a couple of things that are black (one top and two pairs of pants) and only a single thing that's white (favorite pair of board shorts - went to buy them in every color and one of the only colors left was white.) Also only have 2 pairs of jeans, which get worn maybe once or twice a year if it's really cold out.
So I guess that means I'm into color? Mostly Caribbean colors - turquoise, coral, hot pink, lime green. A few fun patterns to mix in. Mostly I wear workout or sports gear. Or sometimes simple dresses from Athleta. Also have a few dressier pieces from White House/Black Market (but they're not black or white, they're one of the seasonal accent colors), Nautica and Lilly Pullitzer.
It's pretty casual down here and owning my own business means I don't have to wear a suit or any certain type of clothes any more. But I will probably have to figure out a way to develop a more pulled together style when I get older - especially when my hair starts to go grey. Right now, it's wavy blond and doesn't need much maintaining to fit into a casual style; but if it goes grey or stops looking casually beachy, I'll have to figure out how to actually style it. And maybe get more grown up clothes. Or not.

Go for it Scottish Lassie!
I need to live near swasat so we can go shopping together lol. I don't like shopping and sometimes I have a hard time using my imagination and getting out of my comfort zone. The sales staff in boutiques have no idea what they're getting themselves into when they ask me "May I help you".

Oh, I've been starting to wear mascara. Didn't bother with any makeup for years. But having white eyelashes and eyebrows, unless you're a little tan (and I try to use sunscreen faithfully), I look really washed out, like hard to see where my eyes end and the skin begins. So a little brown (not black - black is way too dark and I look freakish) mascara on the top eyelashes is nice and just frames my eyes.
Didn't have to do that when I was younger. Not sure if my eye color faded a little or I'm more pale now, but I need to add that color now.

So much of this is not just age based, but regional, though. What's perfectly appropriate down here in a nice restaurant would make you look like a potentially homeless person in New York.
People are just very casual down here (and in Hawaii). If I wore as much black as the women in New England, I'd not only look like a vampire, but people would assume I was a weirdo or a tourist. You gotta do not only what you're comfy with but what works in your area.

In my current frame of mind, I'd vote for "not". Haha! Unless you really want to.

Right now it's tailored/unisex. I just retired and I have a closet full of exquisitely-tailored things I'll mostly be wearing to church, except for a few jackets that look good with jeans. I'm still a little wary of spending $$$, especially on new clothes when I have plenty of perfectly serviceable things, but VERY slowly I want to add more flowing, ethnic, brightly-colored things. I have one pair of Justin boots (blue with pink stitching) and I want a pair in ostrich. And I think I'm gonna get my nose pierced.

LOL.... I am not always buying expensive clothes. Sometimes I just buy from Target, if the clothes fit me well. As I said before, I LOVE clothes and shoes. And I like to dress up

I've always been all over the place with what I like. I like a little bit of everything from a slightly bohemian style (don't have much of) to a more tailored, classic look (bought a lot of) and I'm most comfortable in jeans. That's the only consistency, I love jeans. Skinny legs, boot cut, straight leg, boyfriend, dark wash, faded, dress 'em up or dress 'em down, I like jeans.

That dress! As for me, I have no style. I don't enjoy dressing this post-baby body, and I don't want to waste money on a bunch of clothes in this size. I don't get out much anyways. As for my hair, I color the gray and get it highlighted every so often. I got carded a few times when I went out with makeup on, so I wear a little more on my eyes nowadays.

I wish I had some sort of style. I tend to be pretty clueless. I don't dress all frumpy but I can never seem to figure out how to coordinate things. I generally go to a store and buy what the manniquin is wearing.
With dogs and cats at home I don't even bother buying anything black. Generally for home/weekends I don't wear jeans. The other day I discovered my entire outfit was by MEC (Mountain Equipment Coop). At work I prefer skirts over dress pants, but I'm not a fan of wearing suits.
I'm not exactly unfashionable, but not fashionable either. The only jewellery I wear are sentimental pieces.

And I think I'm gonna get my nose pierced. Say whaaaat? I love it! Do it! Well, first, I gotta get over this cold I brought home from Alaska- my nose is all red and itchy, which makes me wonder what you do in such situations when it's pierced- remove the stud for a few days?
I do have some lovely little diamond stud earrings so one of them would be perfect. I even have a pair of 1/4-carat ones for special occasions!
