I don't think she was making an ecological argument, just making a "hey that's a lot of extra laundry" statement. That's how I see it, at least. That's how I read it. And I read Rainy as being defensive. Well, that was quick.! I keep saying over and over again that I can see how people think it's gross. But countering that it's not a good idea because of the amount of water and detergent used to wash them is just incorrect. You can never use the equivalent water and resources to wash at home than what it takes to make the products. It makes no difference to me that people think it's gross, but saying that it makes no ecological sense because you have to use water and soap to wash and therefore disposable is better is just frankly stupid.

You're both crazy! I don't advertise IRL that I use cloth diapers because I know that 99% of people would instantly pass judgement and think it's gross. That's fine. I think using reusable TP is gross even though as muttley said, poop is poop. I guess it's just a psychological thing. With babies you know it's just for a couple of years, you're saving money, saving a little landfill room etc. I'm not interested in anything beyond that. Just to be clear, I'm crazy? Well duh! I'm old enough to have been cloth diapered and I seriously don't care if anyone wants to do that or use something other than TP as long as I don't have to do the same at their home. I sure don't have any interest in creating any more work for me though. And I do find it icky to think about once their out of infancy, just for the record.

Everything past sentence 2 is defending yourself against something you THINK she implied though. She said it was a lot of water and detergent. And it is. More so than her usual usage. I never read it as an ecological argument, just an observation. YOU took it as an argument that it was not an ecologically sound way to do things.

Yeah, well Lady Mary also was going to marry to keep her property/money that she should have inherited but couldn't because she didn't have that pesky appendage. You can keep that era

I NEVER MENTIONED THE ECOLOGY FFS! It's a lot of extra fucking laundry is what I really meant. I'm out. The dead horse is well... Dead I'm not at all worked up about this. But I can see that you are. If you meant that it was a lot of laundry, then you probably would have said that it was a lot of extra loads (time), but you mentioned water and detergent (resources). If you want to stop the conversation, you are completely in your right to stop posting. It's just rather funny to see you backtrack and get all agitated for a thread about poop.

I remember him going off on a tirade about that before. That's what popped into my head when Rainy was talking about TP not "cleaning" enough.

At our house we refer to that time of the month as "Shark Week" DH and DS throw chocolate in my direction and slowly back out of the room when they realize what week it is. I couldn't imagine not having the proper products to deal with that whole situation. Yeah that!

It's been a slow day! okay, so MM in her last post says "It's a lot of extra fucking laundry is what I really meant." She says simply that 'what I really meant' is the time it takes to do laundry. So then what was she saying before if her last words on the subject were "what I really meant was...." Just saying implies that another message was miscommunicated.

And you not admitting that just maybe you read something into it that isn't there is also funny. I think a lot of time on issues like Cloth diapering, we've heard so many counter arguments (including people saying the ecological benefits aren't there) that sometimes yeah we hear all those other argumentswhen they aren't there. Or maybe I should just say I hear them. Because it is me. I find I deal with my kids' poop a lot easier than their barf (and they barfed everytime they ate as babies). JoJo has gone through this stretch where she's thrown up at bed time 3 nights in a row in April and 2 nights in a row a couple weeks ago. I was so fed up with it. 2 of those nights were DH's brother's nights and not only did I have to deal with puke, I was also the only adult in the house. So I had to clean up me and her, get her to bed and then get DS to bed. Now, her bought of diarhea was gross, but somehow more manageable...probably because it wasn't all over me too.

Or that just one simple thing was meant (more laundry) and it was read as something completely different (environmental concern). I read the original and all subsequent posts as "more laundry" because I do everything in my power to not do more laundry.

I took her "what I meant was" as clarification for you, since you didn't seem to get that all she really meant was... the extra work aspect. Can we argue about something more fun now?
