I agree completely! My only thought was that if people were still going to be able to "view" as I supposed they would, it's possible that 13 year olds could still view content that may be very un-PG13. Right?

Or did I misunderstand and only some portion will allow adult content - and those portions will be blocked?

Yes, it's possible that someone under the age of 13 could view it as a guest, but I can't see why we'd have too many of those here. We're not exactly within the average teen's range of interest. I had considered doing a separate category and containing most of it there, but it wouldn't be hidden in any way.
But, since no one is interested, it doesn't matter, because I'm sure not going to pay $150/ mo on my own! We'll just stay as we are.

Again, I agree with you. I guess what was stumping me was that Proboards doesn't allow anything past PG13 on this site (which I totally understand) because it's a public site. However, if we PAY for it, we can have past PG13 content BUT it's still a public site. See what I'm getting at? Vulgarity is ok and can be viewed as long as we pay for it? I guess I'm probably not understanding, but you are right. It appears to be a moot point.
Have a good one!

The pg13 rule here actually has more to do with the advertisers than anything. that's because the advertisers PB uses are family friendly, and having adult content wouldn't match up with that.
So, the new forums.net is automatically ad free to avoid that issue. that's the bulk of the cost. nowhere that i've seen does it say that if you have adult content that we would have to close it to guest viewing, or have anything that stipulates 18+. maybe that's not required if you're not an actual porn site. i really don't know.

See I don't know if I'm going to get this for my meditation forum or not. I'll have to look into it. First off I absolutely hate single login and this Forums.net is just that single login. Plus you can't go back cause ProBoards doesn't believe all the adult content is gone, so basically if you can't pay you lose your board.
That's some big issues there for me.

We're looking at forums.net, too.
The reason we created our site 4 years ago was to escape a couple of very authoritarian and limited sites where the staff applied a verbal taser to posts that leaned a little toward the adult aspects of discussions. So, naturally, we'd like to be able to offer free speech as much as possible. Our members have seldom ever tried to exploit our commitment.
Otherwise ...
We have an art section and the art is not always PG-13.
We have a writer's section and the current policy restricts writers in posting their original content ... or sometimes poems, etc., by others. For a little while we used a section called it Adults Only for original art and lit. (poems, mostly) that would more likely call for an R rating. Then, took it down after discovering PB didn't consider that a good option.
With forums.net, we've decided to back away and see how well it seems to be working before making a decision. Anyone considering it should probably read everything concerned very thoroughly ... especially all to do with their privacy policy. Remember, Google is the head of this virtual family.
I'd support you if I could, Moon, but currently have my hands full with my own. If that should ever change ... I'll let you know to count me in.
best wishes
Beth

Just a thought ...
Another possibility might be to leave this beautiful site as is and open another board, as forums. net with independent content.

Does the new version eliminate all the navigational problems that make this place a mess? If so I say go for it.

I have pointed out the problems on more than one occasion. I can't even go to one of my own posts. It just takes you to the thread. If it is 10 pages long it is a nightmare. If you think that is excellent more power to you.

If you know the approximate date, you should be able to find it in 3 minutes or less.
Chill and enjoy yourself.

If you don't see a date, like now - where it says "posted X minutes ago" - then hover your mouse pointer over it and it will tell you the exact time and date. After a day or so, it automatically changes it to be specific.
as far as being able to click on a post in your history and go to that post, no. that would not change. you may feel free to create an account on support.proboards.com, however, and make a feature request to allow that function.

there is a history of posts in your profile
along with a history of threads created
never had an issue trying to find a post or a thread
as far as the OP
no...keep as is
i like the fact the people have to keep things at the pg13 level
and though i have had a few run ins with the mods, the way this site works is fine by me

the issue is that when you pull up your posts via your profile, and click the thread title, it doesn't take you to that specific post in the thread. It only takes you to the thread itself, and you have to search on your own for the post itself.

People that complain about the PG13 rating are not interested in a board of just themselves. That has always been an option to them and not enough people are interested to keep it alive. They want an audience. I prefer to put up with the ads. Agree. I belong to one forum that costs $15 per year. Get a few benefits, but it's an anything goes forum. No way would I open that at work.
