I had some great ideas for where we would go this summer - but my DH over-rode them all and said he wanted to go to Minnesota. I know it is a lovely place, but not really what I had in mind for vacation. MPL! SheilainCali!!!

So far, multiple lacrosse tournaments flung across the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast.
IF there is any money left over, probably some more college trips.
Any hope of going anywhere *I* want to go (Alaska, Ireland, Europe) is on hold until the college lacrosse thing gets decided.

We have been doing a family vacation in Narragansett the past few years, so we are doing that again. My puppy is from Narragansett. I had NO idea how beautiful that area of Rhode Island is. I figured it was just one giant brewery. Really.....

Nothing says "Rhode Island" like a Nastygansett. Although the Chicago-style deep dish pizza I had on Federal Hill in Providence last Friday night was very tasty...

almost 40: Would love to hear about your Ireland trip as I'm in process of planning one for Sept. 2015. Can you share details when you return? As for this year, we will be visiting DD2 in Salt Lake City and then do some hiking in Utah's 5 national parks. Probably some time in Sept. or Oct. when it's not so hot/crowded. You bet! I return May 23rd and will send you a PM once I recover... Utah is another place I would like go. I have heard the national parks are wonderful. I think the next time I go to Vegas I will rent a car and spend a few days in Utah. Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon are not far from there. Zion and Bryce Canyon are both stunning. We went there about 10 years ago. I'd love to go back and stay longer in each one....

We have been doing a family vacation in Narragansett the past few years, so we are doing that again. My hometown- enjoy! For a hidden gem, check out Mariner Grille- great bar & food. A little hidden depending on where you stay in Narr, but worth checking out (disclaimer- I used to work there back in the day so I may be biased!)

Another year in which I am not giving birth, another week in Hawaii. I haven't gone since 2012, so it's about time, I guess.

Right now, a family reunion in Quebec in October, wedding in Turks and Caicos in Nov. are all that is on the schedule. Is Quebec really like Europe? I've always thought that's a place I'd like to visit. Would you recommend it? Depends on your perspective. For most North Americans, some what. For Europeans or people who are very familiar with Europe, a big fat NO.

This year, nowhere much. Big money is going into a bathroom reno.
But we are going to Paris for two weeks because some family members offered us their apartment, and then we have our annual family vacation (with my in laws), which is not my idea of a vacation, but pure time wasting hell!

For Europeans or people who are very familiar with Europe, a big fat NO. Reunion is going to be in a small town in Quebec. I'm not even sure where we'll be finding a hotel to stay at because I am NOT camping! There are some pockets of Montreal that are very similar to Europe, where you would swear you are walking down a street in Paris. Those areas are very charming. Otherwise, it's like any other city in North America, only difference is that their first language is French and I believe that they are required by law to greet you in that language.

I would agree with you if you had said Quebec City, but Montreal, not ever.
While I haven't lived in Montreal, I go there often, and it never ever gave me the feeling that I was in Paris. And I've lived in Paris, and not in the pretty parts. Except for one or two small areas with nice buildings, Montreal is truly a butt ugly city!
Tell me what city! I would love to know where Americans would decide to have a family reunion here. I just find it fascinating that you would. what was the reason behind it?

3.5 weeks in Australia in December is my BIG trip! Super excited.
Maybe a northern Arizona long weekend (I live in Phoenix). I'd like to do a gulf coast weekend and maybe Colorado on a different weekend. And a long weekend back home to VA. Oh and I promised friends I'd visit Portland Oregon for a weekend.
If I get a comp week I may do another week vacation somewhere. I'll need it after work this year!!

Granted, it has been about 15 or so years since I was in that area of Montreal, and while I have not lived in Paris, I've visited twice, but I saw similarities. There was a huge cathedral at the end of the street, somewhere in the old part of the city. The streets were narrow cobblestone. Why are you assuming it is American family reunion?

I guess that I shouldn't have assumed, but Quebec had been brought up before and you never mentioned having a personal connection, and your name has Michigan in it. but then again, I supposed you can be an Armenian who had family living North America and decided to pick Quebec as a meeting point, which still remains to be answered! I get Montreal or even Quebec City, but why a small city? Unless, your relatives can't cross the border because they have criminal records and you have health problems and can't travel far, so all of you decided to meet up in Stanstead on the border as a compromise. stop me or I can go on forever!

Mich has nothing to do with Michigan. I've passed through the state but that is about it.
I did grow up, and go to college about 20 miles from Quebec, 60 from Montreal so have gone there quite a bit, but not much since then. We flew into Montreal last year when I went home for Thanksgiving as it is one of the airports fairly easy to get into/out of when I visit. As Vancouver is a local airport to me now, Montreal can be a direct flight.
Family reunion is in a small town in Quebec as it is where my SO's mother grew up and some of the family still resides there, ironically about an hour from where my dad lives.

Nancy I live <10 minutes north of Chicago and would LOVE to meet up. Dogsmom, sarcastic girl and a few others live either in the city or burbs.
After the winter we are STILL having in Chicago I would LOVE to go somewhere warm for a month between mid Jan and end of Feb. Am looking into stuff these days. I am sure if I book something it will be mild again.
I am seriously thinking about taking kids, spouses and grands on an AK cruise next summer. Would need to be between mid july and mid Aug as both DDs teach & go back about 8/20. Did a quick, cheap version in 2003 rt Vancouver w/late DH and MUCH want to do again now that I can afford the more $$ excursions. In fact, DD2 mentioned wanting to cruise as soon as her youngest (daughter) hits 2 and that is June 2015. I need to plan WAAAAY out so they can save for excursions & personal expenses. I plan to cover cruise, air, daily service charge and 1 night pre-cruise hotel.
IF I don't go away this winter I have about $8500 saved/earmarked that I can spend.
