Do you see any reason to subsidize your neighbor's lifestyle more than your neighbor is? Yes

Do you differentiate based on whether your neighbor is a citizen?

That sounds a lot like it's theirs, doesn't it?
Like the people who actually use the geography stake a claim to the geography, and the government must make some appeal to those people to sustain the concept of nationhood.
It's also interesting that we'd both say that a minority, given the choice, would choose not to be part of the United States. One wonders, nationwide, how large that minority might be, and what its trendline looks like.

What would the people in the Southwest say? What if we held a vote tomorrow? I am guessing, without a shred of evidence, that a solid majority- even including Latinos- would vote to be part of the United States. Even if they voted to become part of Mexico, I think our country answered this question 155 years ago. It is not allowed to happen even if the people say they want out. Of course, with Obama's laize faire attitude, maybe it could happen in the southwest today.
Montana, probably not, because they are white supremists and would have to be taught a lesson

That's worth investigating, although I suspect the push to secede isn't coming from the Hispanic community and that was really the tenor of my earlier comment.

I read your link. It made no mention the people ìn the background (of the picture) were laughing at us. Were you the photographer who took the picture and know more about the scene than the rest of us?

How about the Ukranians? Or is this just the jocks and the cheerleaders? The Ukrainians will do what they do. I wouldn't interfere with their activities.

Yes they currently are doing what they are doing. I would also not interfere with their activities but would factor them into the decisions I make. Or rather, since I am just a poster on a message board, include them in the discussion.

I did look at the OP before posting for the first time on this thread. It had no requirement the discussion was to be about Ukrainians only. Hence, I stand by my first post, and it seems to be pretty accurate at this later date. I saw a political satire on the Ukraine in our paper last week. It showed Obama's big stick. A toothpick dispenser with Obama's name on it.

The Ukrainians needed a stick big enough to safeguard their own country and the willingness to use it. I support backing them but you can't "back" someone who has simply turned and ran.

The whole point of the Budapest Accords was that they in fact didn't need that stick. They had that stick, in fact they had thousands of big sticks with fissionable material on the end of the sticks, and they gave them up for a piece of paper that it turns out wasn't worth an awful lot. A piece of paper that we were signatories to, in fact, which might make us at least a little culpable for their toothlessness today.

Did the majority of the Crimean area people run in fear, or run to embrace their Russian brethren. Will we ever know ? Will they follow the rule of law from Russia as they followed the rule of law from Ukraine ? Or did the people never mean anything in regards to Russia's naval base. They're going to find out in the not to near future.

I am hearing nothing about the "underground army" that is carrying out a guerrilla style war on the occupying forces.

An example of a statement that's perfectly acceptable here, but gets you in trouble on the Breast Enlargement forums.

Nice to read that the Ukrainian government is engaging their troops to fight this threat to their country.
