www.cbsnews.com/news/marijuana-triggered-deaths-of-two-men-study-says/This study is monumental. Not because it proves that marijuana is more dangerous than other legal drugs (because it doesn't). Not because it claims marijuana use alone is responsible for the two deaths (because it doesn't). But because finally, finally, I will never again have to listen to the utter absurdity that is "Marijuana has never once been responsible for a human death. Never." I will no longer have to point out the absurd unlikeliness of such a statement being true. I will no longer have to point out that people have died from drinking too much water, or inhaling sawdust, or suffocated from an allergic reaction to herbal tea leaves. Yes at long last we are finally witnessing the death of a bad argument that has stood for generations. Huzzah! I'm as happy as an uncia hunter with a poaching permit.

And considering the obesity and heart disease problems in this country, we can probably expect more deaths like these...but the pro-drug crowd will put the blame on the heart issues, of course. Just wait for some posts to come

Autopsies showed that the younger man had a serious undetected heart problem and the older one had a history of alcohol, amphetamine and cocaine abuse.
These underlying conditions, combined with cannabis's known effect of increasing a user's heart rate or blood pressure when lying down, may have caused the men's hearts to lose their rhythm.
so are you saying that these issues had nothing at all to do with their deaths? And wow, TWO deaths...just two...no others. And both had serious underlying health issues.
yeah...keep digging.

I don't smoke pot and never have.. but the argument is flawed just by the fact that there were underlying issues. Let's revisit when it happens to a HEALTHY person.

From Virgil's link:
"To our knowledge, these are the first cases of suspected fatal cannabis intoxications where full post-mortem investigations (...) were carried out," wrote the researchers.
The researchers, based at Duesseldorf and Frankfurt's university hospitals, said these were isolated cases but suggested people who might have serious heart problems should be made aware of the risk of cannabis use."
Exercise can kill folks with heart disease too. Look up Jim Fixx.

I don't care if it's highly unlikely, or if it requires underlying conditions. I acknowledged both factors in the OP. All I care about is that the "pot never killed anyone" myth is now officially dead.
Do I expect anyone to change their pot habits because of this article? Of course not.
But "pot never killed anyone" as a standalone argument has finally, mercifully been taken out to pasture and shot.
Hasten the day when MEs perform an autopsy and determine that a reasonably healthy person stroked out due to a rare, severe reaction to marijuana use, since that will herald the death of the "pot never killed anyone healthy" myth.
I can wait.

Just wait for some posts to come If heavy pot use leads to excessive munchies, will it eventually lead to obesity, and heart disease?

And I never, ever, want to hear the argument a bale of hay rolling down a hill never killed anyone. take that Mike Edwards of the ELO.

Has anyone ever been killed while chasing that wheel of cheese down the hill?

Has anyone ever been killed while chasing that wheel of cheese down the hill? No fatalities at the Cooper's Hill Cheese Rolling and Wake. But there have been injuries, not caused by the round 9 lb. Double Gloucester cheese but chasers injured by falling down the hill.

I know about the injuries, I was asking about deaths. One year, the hill was super muddy. A bunch of people broke their legs. I think some of you would run if it were a cask of Jack Daniels.

And I never, ever, want to hear the argument a bale of hay rolling down a hill never killed anyone. take that Mike Edwards of the ELO. The difference being that we don't hear claims every second week that giant rolling bales of hay never killed anyone. Most people acknowledge that trying to outrun a massive hay bale careening down a hill is a terrible idea. It killed someone's father. You would have to understand the number of times I've heard the "pot never killed anybody" claim and had to address its statistical impossibility. Think of how you felt when Pres. Obama published his birth certificate online, after you'd suffered through approximately 70 million claims that it didn't exist.

You see, that doesn't matter, at least according to the left. When someone becomes bankrupt due to a medical bill, there is never any consideration taken on the mountains of other debt that person had...the fault for his/her bankruptcy is all thrown on that one medical bill! So the fact these two had previous medical issues means nothing - because apparently only what sends them over the edge (or in this case causes the death) takes precedence over all else. Sorry if you don't like the "logic" of the argument, but you'll have to take it up with the liberals who set the precedent

Let's revisit when it happens to a HEALTHY person.
In AZ medicinal pot is legal so a HEALTHY person shouldn't be using it under any circumstances.
As for bho's 'birth cert', any piece of paper can be forged. It is interesting the hospital he was born in didn't have that name until a couple years after his birth.

I realize not everyone was satisfied with it, just like not everyone is satisfied with the study in the OP. To me, the event marked the death of the "birther" movement. Maybe the certificate was forged. I don't know. Regardless, vastly fewer Americans were willing to believe in a forged birth certificate than were willing to believe that a certificate might not even exist. The movement loss critical mass and quietly disappeared.

My rhetoric is responsible for at least one poster leaving the boards. Since his account died when he left, you could technically say that too much Virgil killed him.

I don't think there is anything that hasn't killed someone. Something like 300 people a year die from slipping in the shower. Doesn't mean I'm going hippie/french.

From one study that said it may have contributed to the death of two people with serious underlying health risks? Good luck with that. We can still say all of the following: There has never been a single documented case of marijuana being responsible for a death in the US. There has never been a single documented case of marijuana being directly or solely responsible for a death anywhere. More people are killed annually by being struck by lightning in just the US than all the known deaths where marijuana may have played a part worldwide in the last fifty years combined. Marijuana alone has never been proven to have killed anyone. Ever.

How many pot induced deaths does it take to offset the positive gains that are made by THC's ability to expand knowledge?
