Promise I'm done hijacking this thread after this, but we need to make a bigger MA meetup happen finally! As the weather gets nicer we need to plan something!

Not to hijack the thread, but for the people who have met each other IRL, isn't it just, destabilizing? How so? I've done a yearly girl's meet-up with some of the EE Ladies and it felt like a first date the first time but now I look forward to it! I have even hosted them at my house and we all lived to tell the tale. Well, it's like seeing pictures of some posters. You imagine one thing, and they are another thing. And your mind has to adjust. I guess I'll have a hard time with meeting people who I connected through the Internet. Before Internet, I had pen pals from around the world. I wrote letters to a girl throughout my entire youth, and then I met her. And I realized that she was nothing like I imagined her. I just imbued all her letters with my intentions and bias. The same thing happened with a guy when I was 18. Someone I went to high school introduced us through Internet, and since he was coming to France, where I lived, we struck up a deep intimate friendship, and the second we met, it fizzled. We would write intense letters, soulmate like emails, and then nothing. It was weird to realize that I was standing in front of a stranger who I knew almost every intimate detail. Weird.

How would it affect her promotion if the BOSS is the one telling her to stay home?!?? Did I mention my wife was weird? Tell her that her boss might view it as her not being able to follow directions if she comes in after he told her not to.

We've got about 6" of snow over a sheet of ice. Anybody who goes in to work today if they don't absolutely have to do so is out of his/her mind! I had to call 911 for mother this morning, as she was too weak to stand and I had to lower her to the floor. It took the ambulance nearly half an hour to get here. 911 was here within 10 minutes, though. Those folks really are awesome. Sent mother on to the hospital, griping all the way, I'm sure. I suspect a urinary tract infection, so she'll need treatment I can't provide here. Fortunately, she'll be at the hospital I worked at for 20 years, so I know her treatment will be great. They all know her and love her. There's no way I'm going to try to drive in there under present conditions! TheHaitian, I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying the new job! While you had a rather inauspicious start, it sounds like this is right up your alley! Really cool you got to meet Chiver, too! Hopefully, you wife will work from home and stay safe. It speaks highly of her work ethic that she wants to go in, but she's no good to them working from the hospital after an accident! Everybody who's seeing this storm, just tuck in and stay warm and safe! It's over for us, and it should start to melt by tomorrow, hopefully.

Snow? What is this snow you speak of?
It's been cold and rainy today, and will be colder tomorrow. But no snow here. Y'all wanna come visit? Or maybe I can meet up with a few of you this summer. We will be traveling to Chicago, heading up by way of Nashville.

For once, I'm on the right side of the country! After dealing with the last couple of snow storms that his the north east, I managed to get the hell out of there a couple weeks ago.
Rain and low 50s today, this I can handle!

I echo those well wishes for both you and your mom. hopefully whatever it is, it's a quick fix!

According to facebook pictures from this morning, my town is at 9+ inches, we're in the 10-14 inch range. I worked from home this morning and finished what i needed to do earlier than I thought. Luckily, my building closed early so I don't have to use my benefit time for the rest of the day. I cleaned a little and I'm about to shovel my car. Then I will shower and convince hubs to walk to the restaurant down the block. They're having brunch with unlimited bloodies and mimosas!

We really are having a wacky winter if we had more snow than the midwest! This storm will push the Philly region over 50" this winter. Ugh.

With all the subzero weather, none of the snow we've got since last November has thawed. It's just been piling up and we've gotten a lot of snow too. The drifts in front of my house are higher than the 4' snow fence, which is now pretty much useless.
I hope the thaw is gradual....like 3 weeks of temps in the 30's or we're screwed for flooding.

I just finished shoveling 21" of snow off the walkway, the dog potty area, and behind the garage. DH just took the second pass at the driveway with the plow. He did not go to work today. I am a big believer that unless you have an essential job, if the government is asking you to stay off the roads so they can work, you probably should.

They get less snow than Philly. On average we don't get that much snow at all southwest Missouri, but northern Missouri gets a ton. I know there are places in Northern Indiana that received 28" of snow at one time. It just depends how far south you live.

(relieved that Carl does, in fact, exist, LOL--thanks Chiver for confirming it)
DH, ODS, and I are home. Our town had school so YDS Is there. ODS is home Sick with a cold.
And, unfortunately, our 12 week old puppy is sick so we have to go out in an hour in the worst of this storm to get him to the vet. :-(. He was there for a 4 month check up on Tuesday and seemed fine afterwards. He was howling uncharacteristically at 2:00 a.m. This morning. He wanted to go out, so we did, and he then had a huge poop. He went back to sleep fine. When DH greeted him this morning, he crawled out of his crate and pooped in the kitchen, then went out and pooped and threw up twice. He is now very lethargic. He tries to sit up but is clearly woozy. Oy. Poor little guy. Please send some "healthy puppy" karma his way.
Cael, too funny, ODS (if he recovers in time) are headed to Baltimore ourselves tomorrow. We are supposed to be in PA today and tomorrow, but the storm forced us to Change our plans. We are heading out on "ODS' and Mom's EXCELLENT, AWESOME, COLLEGE TOUR". Should be fun--he's a good traveller. See you along 95 South!!! ;-)
