I asked my wife to not go in to work today because worrying about her getting home later is not something I need right now; she has the ability to work from home and her boss suggested it yesterday. She is not happy about it but I told her if she went in she better not call or text me about getting stuck, not being able to make it or worse: keep your butt at home. At work 85% of those scheduled called out, 98% of my front end called out. So have been ringing most of the time and BSCB has been emailing and texting me all day:Hello I have run a store before; this is not my first rodeo. Good news: - I've met Chiver this morning - seems their is a Thai restaurant across from my store so a few of us are having that for lunch. Great first week at work... Did I mention the electrical fire on Tuesday? I am loving it!

I'm still waiting for it to get going! I was promised heavy snow by around 8am and there's barely anything going on. I'm disappointed. (Carl I'm about an hour east of you on the coast) We're driving to Baltimore tomorrow morning for the weekend so as long as we can get out tomorrow, I don't care what happens today! Long day at work today but I live 3 miles from work, I can get home no matter how bad it gets.

My work is closed but I left town last night. No big snow where I'm at, just a few flurries overnight.

I am working from home today. DH can't work from home, so he called out and has spent most of the morning watching TV downstairs.
He is outside in the snow right now with the snowblower, because if we wait for the full 12 inches it will be too deep for the snow blower to work.

I'm at work, but probably leaving at noon. We were supposed to have a meeting, but my boss seems to like to cancel them a few hours beforehand, not like, a day beforehand.
I'm in PA, but in the southwest, at the very edge of the storm. We're supposed to get 3-6 inches.

AWESOME!!! And enjoy your lunch!!! Sorry about your lack of staff. Look on the bright side: having to cover everything should make your day go by REALLY fast!

I'm working from home today. I ran back to the office first thing, for a bag of software that I forgot to bring home with everything else yesterday. on the way home, I stopped at Carl's store for a bagel and a few other things and was surprised to run into him almost right after I walked in. for me, I am in the process of setting up and starting up all my laptops and terminals so I can get my shit done today. my living room is coming close to resembling a control room, it's pretty ridiculous. I'll try to post a pic once everything's up and running. past that, I'm not leaving my house again until tomorrow morning. <fingers crossed> that the snow removal company comes in and actually does its job for a change this year. they don't know it yet, but they are getting fired in the spring. if we'd been able to find another company to come in and save us, that other company would be fired already.

Snow, what snow? Today is suppose to be our first day with temps around average in over 3 weeks. Which means we are hitting 50 today!! Woohoo! (For the record, we got a couple inches of snow on Monday and my usual Monday commute of 30 minutes ended up being an hour and a half, I wanted to shoot someone...preferably the someones that caused the one accident that caused me to be that late, it was awful, there was not even an exit to take, just stuck on the freeway.

Same here. Well, not 50, but 30's and since 42 of the last 60 days have been below zero, this is going to be awesome. We are getting some funky crap coming down right now. Not really snow, not really freezing rain. I suppose sleet would best describe it, but I don't care, today is going to be awesome!

I stayed home, but am having to use a vacation day cuz work didn't close. I live almost 20 miles away and we already had a few inches by 8 am. I am not willing to risk it anymore, especially with my commute and it is supposed to be way worse later. All of the schools where I live we're closed, not even a delay where I work, but they are all now dismissing early. We are right on the edge of the 4-8" and 8-12" so it's gonna be a mess. The older I get, the less I am willing to risk my life and safety just to show up at work. Not when I have 25+ vacation days per year...

Working from home today. Worked from home yesterday, which turned out to be a blessing. People were trapped on the interstate and hwys and had to abandon cars. it took one co-worker 9 hrs to get home (he lives 30 mins from work). One pregnant co-worker abandoned her car after 4 hrs and stayed with some friends.
I'm wearing PJ's looking at the ice and snow and not being able to see my road. I haven't driven anywhere since I got home night before last night. DH ran out a couple of minutes early yesterday AM to get dog food, but other than that he's staying put too (at my insistance). I think he;s going a bit stir-crazy, he keeps voulenteering to go places that we don't need him too. He can't work from home, but base is closed, so he is off.
I feel fortunate not to have lost power. We are expecting more this afternoon

LOL, I met Carl when he was filling in at a store here and I almost ran right over him too

I'm confused about why she's fighting it. If your boss tells you to work at home, pack up your files and laptop at the end of the day. I'm shocked that anyone with a commute like hers isn't happy about a day at home. My work is closed but I left town last night. No big snow where I'm at, just a few flurries overnight. Because my wife is weird; that is why! Her direct supervisor emailed her to let her know she could work from home and that was coming from his boss since they know she has a long commute. On top of that her direct supervisor boss also emailed her to tell her it was ok to work from home.... So 2 emails from her bosses telling her it was ok to work from home and she did not even ask. But she feels weird being the only one out of the office since they all live in Boston and will probably be in today. I explained to her she will be working; just working from home ... But she said that sometimes people don't consider working from home "really working" At that point I gave up on the conversation and told her to do whatever she wanted... Just don't call me. At 9 she texted me saying it wasn't bad maybe she should go in... I texted back the same thing I told her. It seems she is up for a promotion in the coming months and she doesn't want to mess it up. I told her that landing in a ditch or worse dying is a good way to mess it up. Stay your butt home an work from there... I wish I could work from home!

I was the only one out in my group yesterday. i have a long commute from a different area than most of them live. my area got hit with snow and ice on tuesday while where I work/my co-workers live did not. I e-mailed my boss and told him I wouldn't be in because I was concerned about the safety of the roads. It turned out to be a good idea. Where I live, it started snowing at 8am yesterday and snowed/sleet/freezing rain until I went to bed. Where I work, there was no precipitation until almost 1pm. By 1pm the roads here wouldn't have been passable. Please convince your wife that working from home instead of commuting in bad weather is better. She's not going to do her work a bit of good if she gets into a car accident on the wat to/from the office.

It is miserable in NYC; snowing hard and blowing harder. I almost got blown into traffic while waiting at a crosswalk, ugh. But have they canceled jury duty? Of course not! So I have to get downtown by 2:00, and I guarantee the prosecutors will be late. Maybe none of the witnesses will show up & we can leave? That would be great.

I guess it would feel like the morning after a one night stand. Not to hijack the thread, but for the people who have met each other IRL, isn't it just, destabilizing?

If you are getting things done then it is obvious you are working! In my office, we have this little sheet that is basically a copy of your online timesheet. So you charged 5 hours to Code A you have to put down the times you did those hours and what you did. It has to be exhausting being so uptight about things all the time!

No snow here. Hit north GA pretty bad yesterday. It was 34 degrees yesterday and rained ALL day, and a few snow flurries late at night. Since I am have to go outside for my job several times a day IT SUCKED.

I've done a yearly girl's meet-up with some of the EE Ladies and it felt like a first date the first time but now I look forward to it! I have even hosted them at my house and we all lived to tell the tale.

I've been home since Tuesday. Tuesday and Wednesday were non-events; we spent the time waiting for the worst to happen. Snow finally hit last night, but the temp was above freezing at 7 a.m. so the roads look good. I don't know about "bridges and overpasses." Maybe we can go back to school tomorrow. This is messing with deadlines and grades since we will have missed 7 days of school in a three-week period. Ironically, we are off Monday.

Not at all, at least not for me! I'm used to it though, I've met many friends IRL after knowing them online for a while. It's cool because it's someone you technically just met, but you know enough about each other to have a connection already. I dunno. It works for me (and chive hasn't tried to murder me yet! )

My post disappeared, I don't think proboard is very IE11 friendly, lemme try again.
At my previous employer, I tried to limit the working from home because they started overstepping their boundaries, like calling me four hours before my shift to complain about something they could just as easily complain about when I arrived for my shift *cough* . Tried my best to keep home home, and work at work.
Not an option at this job. This is the first time I've called out and the supervisor sounded surprised, I've made it every other snow. This time wasn't so much a weather issue as it was a childcare issue. <rant on> I understand some jobs/positions are declared "essential", but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact the childcare facilities are closed and the main work roads aren't plowed. I actually had an accident the last major snow we had, but didn't make a deal of it at work.</rant off>
