I'm just curious if I'm an anomoly.
Do you carry a briefcase or backpack or some other form of bag to and from work with work related items in it?
The only time I take something from the office is if I'm telecommuting the next day or I'm traveling. If I'm telecommuting (which isn't often, maybe a few times a year,) I'll take a laptop bag with my laptop in it. If I go on travel I'll usually take my laptop and the documents I need to do audits and other tasks.
But for most days, I don't take anything when I come to work or leave. I never take work home. If I need to work late, I'll just stay at the office and do it there.

I often have a briefcase with me. I take work home, or I go home after court, or I go straight to court before work.
I have a purse that has assorted crap in it, like my keys, cellphone, wallet, and lunch.
I have a backpack with workout clothes.

I'm a cubicle monkey, so I'm not generally taking things home. Does bringing my lunch bag count?

I take a small duffel bag. It holds my safety vest, cap, kneepads, sunscreen and other assorted crap I need for work. I hate traipsing to a locker before and after work, so the duffel eliminates that.

I take a backpack. For me it's more practical then a purse, lunchbag, and laptop bag.
I have currently in my backpack:
1. My laptop, modem, and charger 2. My lunch 3. My wallet 4. 2-3 magazines or catalogs 5. Sometimes work

I have a messenger bag and a lunch 'box' that I carry to and from work. I keep my cell phone, a book, keys, wrist wallet (my $$ & CC & id in a little 'purse' with a wrist band), my sunglasses, my train pass, kleenex and other stuff in my messenger bag.
I sometimes ferry shoes between work and home - if I need a pair for the weekend (or evening). I'm weird. I've got one pair of 'dress' black shoes, one pair of 'dress' black boots that I wear mostly at work - so that's where they stay.
Sometimes I take home my office sweater and wash it.

I have a laptop bag. If I have any paperwork (rare since it's all on the laptop) then I shove that in the same case.

Phoenix, how do you think those bags all fit into the belly of the aircraft? There's someone like me that is on their knees in there stacking bags. The space is only 3-4 ft high and you'll rupture a disk if you try to do it bending over.

Not to be judgemental, but don't you think that's kind of dangerous? If someone stole that backpack they could easily steal your identity.

I carry a lunch bag and a laptop bag/briefcase to and from work every day. We are not allowed to leave our laptops at the office. If you're important enough to have a laptop, you're important enough to work from home in case of emergency, so the reasoning goes. I keep all my purse items in my briefcase as well - lipstick, wallet, etc. I try and keep everything slimmed down as much as possible to reduce strain on my back. Phoenix - you have a belt clip for your cell phone? Have you considered this may be part of why you don't date much?

It's not like it's under lock and key at home either.

I carry a purse but just got a little wristlet so I may start using that instead (just realized both are Coach, LOL!). Once a week I bring in a grocery bag with all my food for the week. And I am the weird box lady, alway scavaging the paper boxes with lids to take home (I organize DD's things in there for storage for the next kid) so half the time I am leaving with a box or two. All I really NEED to bring back & forth is my keycard to get in & out of the building. I can remote into my computer to work from home which is better than bringing my laptop home since some network files only work by remoting in.

With the way my neck is f*d up, it's actually worse to carry on both shoulders than just my left. I just try to keep it as light as possible and carry for only short periods of time...

1) clothes I'm wearing 2) backpack -laptop/accessories -purse -lunchbox/snacks -any work that had to go hopme or back 3) coffee thermos (rides in the backpack on the way out)
Not sure if this is realted but my cube is set up such that if I ever needed to walk out of here and never come back, everything I care to take with me fits in my backpack

I didn't used too, but now I carry a laptop bag back and forth. Most of the time it doesn't have a laptop in it. I carry the bank bag back and forth to make night drops and carry the till cash. There's change rolls in there, night drop bags, my cell phone charger, random paperwork (invoices, money order receipts, bills, etc.), and a lunch when I remember one. We use the store address for everything related to the business, but my files and stuff are at home, so I take the random paperwork there and file it.
When I was a cubicle monkey I just carried my cell phone in my pocket (seriously bro belt clips look ridiculous), and my wallet. I kept a laptop bag at the office in case I had to work from home. If I brought a lunch I left it in the car and would leave the office to eat. I'm a firm believer in taking an actual break at lunch. Can't tell you how many times I'd spend two hours getting nowhere on something, and come back from a smoke or lunch break and have it figured out in 10-15 minutes. We had a gym at work, but it sucked, all Nautilus machines and treadmills. When I was in the military and had access to a real gym, I used to take a backpack in with me with gym clothes and shoes.

Backpack. It has my wallet, Chapstick, house/car keys, personal items, water bottle, pills, lunch (sometimes,) phone, gloves, a pen, Kindle, and my ipod. In the spring and summer this will go in a handbag instead.

I thought it looked kinda professional? And what's the altnerative? It's kinda bulky to fit in your pocket. I usually wear my shirt untucked, so it's not usually visible.

I carry a handbag, and when I go to work, I also carry a school bag too. . My school bag is just a big handbag with school stuff, and lunch, and a flash drive. There is one small binder I ALWAYS carry but I try to leave most of them at school. (I have duplicates at home). I have shelves at school in the staff room where I keep my most of my class binders, my pencil case, breakfast bars, and a phone charger. If I have too many binders to carry (beginning or end of the semester) I use a roller-bag. I used to take my computer in but it got too heavy, so I use the school computers now.

For some reason, women outnumber men by a large margin on this message board. If in doubt, I generally assume a poster is female as well.
