I've got a catch-all bag that holds all my stuff: wallet, phone, kindle, umbrella, glasses case, water bottle, etc. Anything extra gets tossed on top: change of shoes (if wearing winter boots for the weather), lunch bag, a single book/dvd/magazine to return to the library. Today I had another bag full of library items I had to return for the rest of the family, so I was slinging around two big heavy bags.
I don't truly bring home work that often, but I/we are often our own best customers, at times. DH loves to call me up at work "Honey, can you bring home that ___ dvd; I want to use it in class tomorrow. Oh, yeah and renew those books my students are still reading."

HA! I thought the same thing!! I third this. (Sorry, Phoenix!) (Also, if your phone is too bulky to fit in a pocket, either you bought your phone in 1997 or your pants are too tight.) I fourth this. Sorry.
We are subject to security searches, I don't carry much because I hate getting in line for the check...especially when all the fellas just breeze on by!!

Dark, I never knew you were such a fashionista. Dark is in touch with his feminine side. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Some of those new phones might be slim but they are getting big again. I've seen some that are so big they'd never fit in my pocket. They might be slim but they are long, longer than my hand! All the people in my building either have them on a belt clip or in hand. Manager level and up gets work issued blackberries.
Most days I have my purse and another big bag that holds my lunch, planner, umbrella, my Nalgene water bottle if it's my first day in for the week and sometimes my Kindle or a book or magazine.
I must have my work badge, flash drive, credentials, rsa token, desk keys and keys to my office suite. If I've been traveling or working at home I have a laptop bag.
My building requires xray screening of all bags and you passing through a metal detector before entering. I hate with a passion people (mostly guys) who don't have a bag and spend 5 minutes putzing around trying to get their pockets emptied into a tray to send through the scanner. We only do this every damn day every time you enter.

I feel like the "bag" lady. I do most of my work in the field, so am always schlepping a bunch of stuff. I have a messenger type bag where I carry my datebook, case files, pad folio, and crap like that, my rather large purse and usually a lunch bag when I go into the office. When I go into client homes, I only take my datebook, file, and pad folio, NEVER take my purse.

I carry a lunch box and a flash drive. There's no need for much else. You flash while you drive? Do you cause a lot of wrecks?

I carry a leather laptop/portfolio bag. I don't carry a laptop or take work home often, but I frequently have to go out to client locations on little notice, so it has everything I might need and room to toss in the client files that I might need to ferry back and forth. It has things like notepads, pencils, highlighters, flash drives, calculator, headache meds, my lunch if I remember to make one, etc. My personal stuff I always carry on me. ID and a few credit cards in a business card holder, keys and phone. Our building was evacuated once and I was one of the only women who was able to get out of the -20 degree weather and wait in my car while the building was cleared. We had to leave immediately and most women couldn't get back to their desks to get their purses. I was nice and let my immediate office mates wait with me.

No. You can get away with it if you're over 50, or you wear a suit jacket that hides it. It's not quite as bad as wearing a fanny pack, but it's close. Crap, why doesn't anyone ever tell me these things. I'm not a big fan of carrying things in my pockets, at least bulky items. I don't know, I guess I won't wear my cell phone on my belt when I go out for social activites. I may still wear it at work though, my shirt hides it anyway. Since this revelation has thrown into question everything I thought about fashion, or at least carrying stuff. I guess I should put it out there that I carry my wallet in my front left pocket, not in the back pocket because I hate sitting on a bulky wallet. IS THAT taboo too? Oh Phoenix! You DO need to get your cell phone off your belt - atleast for when you are NOT at work and you need carry less in your wallet!
If you hate the idea of wallet shopping - have some fun and pick out a Mighty Wallet www.dynomighty.com/ to get you thru until you find a leather one you like.
If you need a backpack/laptop bag or messenger - I'd recommend a TimBuk2 bag www.timbuk2.com/tb2/ or a Manhattan Bag www.manhattanportage.com/catalog/ You can custom build your bag.

I carry my handbag and a tote bag with work stuff in it, tablet, lunch, contacts and reading glasses and contact lens solution.
When I travel I have a bigger tote bag that holds my handbag and all the above as well as a few essentials in case my checked luggage doesn't arrive with me. I've had that happen a couple of times when I had a really tight time between plane changes. I really can't get up in the morning and go to a meeting with dirty underwear. I've never had underwear dry overnight.

Several and several more ladies at work carry at LEAST 2 BAGS!! and that is NOT including a purse!!! the next level down is the women have the rolling bag and a purse. my co-worker she has 3 bags on the daily. the backpack is at LEAST 40 to 50 pounds! when we walk in together I take that backpack from her and carry it in. she also carries her laptop bag AND one of those canvas bags from the grocery store. ALL FILLED! my roommate carries usually two bags and her purse! me - just my laptop bag! but not all the time cause I rather come and go like most of the men at work and carry nothing!

I carry a lot of stuff into/out of work, not so much in the winter because I don't have my workout bag, but on a usual day:
-Purse -Lunch bag -Laptop bag -Workout bag
I can usually shove the purse or lunch bag in the workout bag, unless I had to take my locker stuff home and wash it, then it's a little full.
It's really kind of insane.

WVUGURL reminded me that I do technically "carry in" my work badge. Though in reality, I just leave it in my car whenever I'm not working, so it's always available when I need it in the morning when I come into work. At work, I clip it to my belt loop.

I too had this thought!
Your pants must be too tight.
I carry in my purse and my laptop bag. I hate the laptop bag. It was left by the previous principal. It's canvas and has the school's emblem on it. But, being the good YM-er that I am, I haven't bought a nice one yet.
I take my work laptop home almost every night. I only don't when I've passed 12 hours at school, and then I really only have time to do chores at home and go to bed.

I have to stick up for Phoenix here, when I met him last year he looked perfectly presentable. I didn't notice a cell phone.

I carry my purse that has all the usual stuff. I also carry one of the thirtyone bags, but being a good YMer, I haven't sprung for the expensive Cindy bag, although I covet it in the catalog . That carries my breakfast, lunch, snacks, huge bottle of water, and anything else I might want for the day - bills, account books, etc. We can't take any sort of electronics in the building, so my kindle stays home and the phone stays in the car. I used to carry a gym bag in also, but haven't been doing much of that for the last several months. I would take the elevator some days because things were so heavy
