Speaking of big, scary dogs. I have to take my rottie/lab cross into the vet tomorrow morning. I think it may be time to let her go. Totally sucks, but something is up with her. She had been having hip issues, but she walks ok, however, if you just touch the skin on her upper back legs she yelps in pain and shakes all over. Plus she's losing a lot of weight. I'm hoping I get home tonight and she's miraculously better, but I don't think that's going to happen. Well, she's definitely NOT better. This is going to be a long night. She wants to play and has a great appetite, but she's in a lot of pain. When I let her outside she just went and laid down in the snow and in the house she just moans and cries in her bed. I gave her all the Rimadyl I had left. About 3X what I normally give her.

My sweet puppy didn't make it. Fitting end to an absolutely horrible year. I am so looking forward to putting 2013 behind me and ringing in 2014.

It was such a hard decision, but after they gave her the initial shot to relax her and were able to feel around more, they found a big tumor in her abdomen near her hind legs. That's when I knew I made the right choice, but it still sucks. This morning I went to go out to do chores and the first thing I noticed was both of my shoes were by the door. Ever since she was a puppy she would take one of my shoes with her to bed in the adjacent laundry room every night and it was just my routine the past 12 years to have to go retrieve it. She never chewed them, she just slept with it. I broke down crying when I saw them both sitting there.

MPL, I'm so sorry. It sounds like you made the kind choice but that doesn't make it any easier.

Update - I think I know where the people with the dogs live. Planning on a two prong approach. 1) Have kids ride bikes on other streets and ask they not ride near the dogs when the dogs are being walked. 2) Try to do more of our evening walks close to their house in the hopes of encountering them. Language barrier or not, I'm sure we can "talk" and meet the dogs. Looking forward to "meeting" the dogs and the people. It will be OK.

I don't even know why are you taking such common sense and logical approach to things. I am SURE you could have sued them for something and started a petition to put dogs down.

I noodled on it for a while and let it sit. This is why I often take a week or two to make decisions, even ones that seem minor. Apparently, I'm a hothead. But you knew that, right?

Milee, I'm glad your being sensible. I only found this thread today. But meeting the dogs is a good plan.
