Well, they are foreign, you know? So it stands to reason that they are renters, and that their dogs are just faking the whole purebred, well cared for, polite walking on a leash thing. Are the dogs foreign too?? I really should have gotten the American Labrador - I got the English model and she's a bitch on the leash. She is 70 strong pounds of toddler-toppling doofus.
English Lab? the real question is how are her teeth?
I lol'd!
But the answer is: strong!

I'll floss next time.

It may be different in your area, but around here none of the landlords will rent to people with pit bulls or any of the dogs on the insurers list of dogs that are considered high risk. The high risk dog list varies slightly by insurer but every single one of them lists pit bulls and pit bull types on their list. If you are a renter with a pit type dog, you either lie about it, sneak the dog in or end up in slum housing. The closest slum housing is not a close walk, so I think he's assuming that they live close by and that they've snuck the dogs into to the rental home.
If you want to read into the posts that there is "horror" or drama, that seems odd to me since I think I've made an effort to be fair and balanced in my description and reaction. But then again, you're also concluding the dogs were well-mannered, when I did not mention any such thing. We may have different standards if you conclude that a note of "no obvious signs of aggression" noted in a brief observation equals well-mannered. From your description, it sounds like the dogs were some kind of rare breed. Would that make the "do not rent list" because nobody knows what the hell it is?

I'm still laughing at the assumption that they're renters and contacting the landlord because they were walking their well mannered dogs on leashes. Oh the horror! There goes the neighborhood! Well, they are foreign, you know? So it stands to reason that they are renters, and that their dogs are just faking the whole purebred, well cared for, polite walking on a leash thing.
Did you miss the part where I explained that I believe my husband - who is also a foreigner - thinks they are renters because only a few houses have been sold recently and we have met most of the people that bought them?
I haven't observed or commented on whether their behavior was polite walking, just that it was not aggressive. But since you know that they're purebreds, maybe you can let us all know exactly what they are?

I thought the english labs were the smaller ones and the american ones were the ones with the big block head and really muscular? No? Yes and no. the English labs tend to be shorter - but they have the block heads and the stronger, sturdier bodies. She's not leggy. She's my little teapot, short and stout.

Depends on the insurer and also if the landlord actually saw/met the dogs or just took the renters' word for it. It's also very possible that they're not a particular breed but are some mix. Although they are all very handsome and uniform looking, so if they're not a particular breed, I'd guess they came from the same litter.

There are a bunch of dogs forbidden by my insurer but I go above that and put a low weight limit on the dogs I will allow in the lease. Who knows if they actually abide by my lease. I cap the weight at 30 lbs

If your weight cap is 30 pounds, your tenants would be allowed to have two of the legs of the big male dog but the rest would have to find somewhere else to live...

One of my friends has a "purebred Bichon Frise" that is the size of a Cocker Spaniel. That thing would definitely exceed Tina's weight limit.

My dad has a chocolate lab that is over 130lbs with a ginormous hard head. That thing could definitely kill you if it wanted to. Mine is pretty short, but she's very strong. I don't doubt that the American and English versions have gotten all mixed up in a lot of cases so you'd end up with taller and still the blockhead. I'm sure it's still a purebred (for people who care - I don't ever plan to breed a dog so it makes no difference to me) as long as both parents are some version of Labrador retriever.

A mastiff is not a pit bull... And this specific breed isn't very high profile so most landlords probably don't even know that it exists... And do you know for certain they are renters? Or do "foreigners" typically not buy in your neighborhood. So far all I've seen is a lot of hysterical speculation based on ONE instance... I don't recall reading that you observed actual aggressive behavior or that they were difficult to handle... She is in Florida...they only have Cubans and Mexicans!

As in not even a US Citizen even though we're married foreign. So there are at least a few "foreigners" here.
Speaking of one instance, can you please post one instance of hysterical speculation? Not tongue in cheek joking (such as when I joke about the dog wanting to eat my kid), but actual hysterical speculation?

Did you think you came off as joking? You have commented that based on absolutely no signs of aggression whatsoever you are fearful and want to call their (presumed) landlord. Do you think that sounds rational?

Have we determined what breed this is? Maybe this: - they also come in white and tan, and weigh up to 130 pounds. They stand about 2 feet tall.

?? Could be a different color, and is a known breed to sometimes have blue eyes.

Do you think that sounds rational? And you come off as drinking since you seem to continually misinterpret or misquote what is written... I never said I wanted to call their landlord. Just like I never identified the dogs as purebred, never assumed the owners were renters because they were foreign, never said the dogs were well mannered or any of the other stuff you claimed.
It's funny that you seem to be criticizing me for jumping to conclusions when you're the one that hasn't even read closely enough to understand what I'm posting, so are constantly jumping to the wrong conclusions.

In the OP it said the male comes to the mans hip... I really don't know how to measure dogs, but I'm guessing a mans hip would be more than two feet?

#154's head is similar, but not big enough. Also, the body of #154 is too blocky and doesn't have the same muscle definition or waist. These dogs are more athletic looking with a curved in waist, more like the body of a boxer, but stouter.
#155's shape is totally off - neither the head nor body shape is right. The color is similar - in that each of these dogs is a solid color, not brindle, but they are lighter and more silvery.
#156's head is similar, but the body is too chunky and not defined enough. Hard to tell on size. Of the ones posted, this is the most similar, followed by 154.
Oped, they're not Great Danes. Their head is blockier, they're more muscular but smaller overall. When I said hip, that was the dog's head, not his shoulders. DH also doesn't think the male was hip high. And as Thyme points out, I'm short, so maybe they look bigger to me than they would to her.
