"You've missed a lot. Her business is toast compared to what was as is her reputation. I simply point out a recurring theme, that whatever factual information is presented to people out here, if it is opposing their views, it is simply not accepted. You, as well as some others, have passed judgment on Deen and Robertson based on preconceived views. As such, and facts to the contrary are just not right. I fail to see what "bath" Jackson took on anything. Since you admit that Deen was not involved in day to day operations, then I guess any discussion involving discrimination is moot. Yet people still profess her guilt because it's the "thing to do". No horse necessary."
While at work I googled about Paula Deen and one of the business mags said even if she lost all her endorsements but kept her restaurants she'd clear about $7 million a year. Not toast or destitute IMO. Her big sponsorship was the diabetes med and I have no idea whether she kept that or not.
You have you own preconceived views too. You don't seem to be able tell the difference between me and other posters on this topic and Paula Deen. Nothing I said here on DD refuted facts. Nothing. All I did was venture my opinion on some comments and the fact the the whole deal was between Phil, A&E, and the audience/sponsors. In fact what I predicted as the best outcome is actually what happened. (Oh Noooz!)
There weren't many facts to be had though in the Paula Deen case. Only snippets of transcripts ever leaked out so it was pretty much an opinion fest on the board the entire time. Still probably is. I blame EVT1 for mentioning her in this thread.
Good night Frank.

... The "Duck Commander" business is a highly successful & lucrative business. I guess the moral of the moral of the story here is "Don't Judge a Book by its Cover". But most people don't learn the moral of the moral. They do make that judgement.

Exactly. So I guess the theory of uneducated people watching other uneducated people making it big and seeing hope is blown to smithereens? Maybe I'm being too literal, but I only saw Vandals(one poster) conjecture about the viewer's own lack of education. Lack of education doesn't mean uneducated in my opinion. I would take it as not as much education as one would like. Whatever people believe is really opinion. Unless someone decides to survey the viewers its pretty much conjecture no matter what poster it comes from.

I saw it. Didn't have anything to do with the question then and it doesn't have anything to do with it now. True enough. However "the question" has nothing to do with the reality of the situation that we are discussing. It might not have anything to do with what you were discussing, but it was pertinent to the discussion several were having regarding the reasons why people watch Duck Dynasty. We are obviously on different side roads here.

Could very well mean that, Opti. That's why I was asking for clarification. Do you suppose he was also saying that people who watch the show have taste - just not as much as they wish they had?
Again, I've been reading things wrong lately, so you could be right.

I'm a little late reply to this post, but beavers can really wreak havoc on the landscape.
Friends of ours own a large cattle ranch. One of their pastures has a large creek (more like a river) running through it. When the beavers build their dams on the creek, it backs up and overflows onto their grazing land.
The only way they can make their livelihood is to destroy the dams and "get rid of" any beavers they happen to see. They usually always have a shotgun or rifle with them when they're on horseback checking their cattle herds.
As for the Duck Dynasty family, Phil has a degree in Education. Willie has a bachelor's degree in health and human performance, with an emphasis on business. Willie's wife Korie graduated from Harding University.
The "Duck Commander" business is a highly successful & lucrative business.
I guess the moral of the the story here is "Don't Judge a Book by its Cover".. My head knows all that, SL. My heart, unfortunately, will not follow suit! I mean...the animals were there long before the Robertsons. Some things just get to me even though I can fully see the logic involved in the decision. I understand it isn't "killing just because they love killing". I just hate seeing animals destroyed and left to rot. And I guess I don't know that they didn't collect and eat them.

Again, I've been reading things wrong lately, so you could be right. I think Vandals was only speaking about the audience's educational level and aspiration level for their own success. I don't think he was trying to say anything more than that. I believe he lives in Louisana and before has posted the average educational level is less than HS.

...we have a high level of education and we crack up watching their shows... Phil has a Master's Degree. They've all been to college. ...yes... this fact was on our radar since Phil declined to be drafted by the Redskins, went on for his MA, after practically benching the Steelers' rising QB Bradshaw during college...

Exactly. So I guess the theory of uneducated people watching other uneducated people making it big and seeing hope is blown to smithereens? Not at all. The same people who love this show would have been charmed with Ellie Mae's monkeys, and Uncle Jed trying to figure out why someone seems to be at the door whenever a bell rings in the house.

LOL! Well, Opti? I guess I finally read something right!
PS: I loved the Beverly Hillbillies reruns! However, I don't remember the "bell" thing. You must have watched it more than I.

No kidding, BTDT. The other night, Opie would only give 3 cents to his school's charity. Turns out he was saving the rest of his money for a coat for a little girl who didn't have one. Andy had to eat "crow"!
And Barney? He got drunk when Otis spiked the water cooler. Don Knotts was great! Now THAT is funny.

By Louisiana standards, these guys are the very definition of what they want to be. My son-inlaw added a logo from the Ducks business website to his Facebook page, reading, "Guns, God and Beards." My son-in law has been running a plumbing business for 15 years, but has never been able to pass the test to get a plumbing license, and still finds time to play his video games about 10 hours per week. Louisiana is very strickly divided between four groups...the white protestants in the north, the Cajun Catholics in the South, and the Black born again protestants in urban South. A fourth group would be the young inner city blacks, whose heros are rap stars and gangsters. If they had a "reality show", it would feature gang leaders from the Lower Ninth Ward. If the Cajuns had a "reality Show", it would feature Doug Kershaw and/or Buckweat Zydeco music groups. None of this crap is "reality". I saw one episode, which included one of these guys sticking a gun into a hollow log and aiming blindly at a water moccosin that he claimed was hiding in there. There were people sitting on the log, for Christ sake! I lived in this part of the world, and I absolutely promise you that these folks do NOT subscribe to any TV channels that don't have "Pawn Stars", or "Dancing with the Stars" on it. My son-in-law's wife, when asked what she knew about Shakespere, replied that he was somebody who starred in a movie that included a love story a few years back..
